- FORMAT
-
- Most CP/M systems come with a program of this name, used to
- format floppy disks. Kaypro does not provide such a program, but
- instead they provide the same function within one of their menu-
- driven disk utility called DCOPY, COPY, DUTIL, or some such.
-
- My feeling is that when you are formatting a group of disks, the
- last thing you want to do is to wade through multiple levels of
- menu selections. You just want to format the cotton-pickin' disk
- with a minimum number of keystrokes. FORMAT does that.
-
- *** WARNING *** Like any program of this nature, FORMAT is
- SPECIFIC to the later model Kaypros, Model 4-84 or equivalent. It
- formats only in the Kaypro DSDD format, and it accesses the disk
- controller directly, so trying to use it on other machines will
- result in disaster. This includes older, '83 model Kaypros, which
- have different hardware port addresses, among other differences.
-
- Usage is
-
- FORMAT
-
- or FORMAT A:
-
- or FORMAT B:
-
- From there, the program is self-explanatory. If no argument is
- typed, as in the first usage above, drive B: will be formatted as
- a default.
-
- FORMAT has no bells or whistles, but it really needs none,
- either. It does what it does, about as rapidly as possible.
