  1. FSM Control Panel Extension Release Notes

  5. The FSM CPX is used to modify the EXTEND.SYS required by FSM-GDOS.
  6. To execute the FSM CPX, double-click on the Font Manager CPX in the 
  7. Control Panel.
  8.  
  9. Before being displayed in the window, the CPX will search for the
  10. EXTEND.SYS file on the startup device.  This will be either A:\ or C:\.
  11. The information in the file will be used as the current attributes of 
  12. the CPX.  For example, the fonts found in the EXTEND.SYS file will be 
  13. displayed in the active menu of the CPX.  In addition, the CPX will search
  14. the Font Path specified by the EXTEND.SYS to locate all of the
  15. available fonts which will be displayed in the inactive font menu.
  16. Symbol and Hebrew Fonts will NOT be displayed in either menu.

  18. If the EXTEND.SYS file doesn't exist, the attributes will be set to their
  19. defaults.  For example, the Font Path Default will be "C:\".
  20.  
  21. MAIN MENU of FSM CPX

  23. COMMANDS ( MAIN MENU )
  24.     Clicking on the popup ' Outline Font Manager' will display the
  25.     5 commands/options possible. They are: ( Please See "Command Summary"
  26.     for a more detailed description of these commands ).

  28.     1) Outline Font Setup
  29.     2) Show Active/Inactive Fonts
  30.     3) Save 'EXTEND.SYS'
  31.     4) Make Width Tables
  32.     5) Activate/Deactivate Font(s)

  35. CURRENT TYPE OF FONT DISPLAYED ( MAIN MENU )
  36.     This message line will display either 'Active Fonts' or
  37.     'Inactive Fonts'. The type of fonts displayed in the font menu 
  38.     will duplicate the message line.
  39.     
  40. FONTS ( MAIN MENU )
  41.     The fonts displayed are either 'Active' or 'InActive' Fonts based 
  42.     on the message line. Active fonts are fonts that will be included
  43.     in the EXTEND.SYS file.  Double-clicking on a font will display a
  44.     viewer( OK, wot should we call it? ) for modifying the
  45.     point sizes ( See Point Size Options ).
  46.     
  47.     Single clicking on a font will select it. To select multiple fonts,
  48.     you can Control-Click or rubber-band the desired fonts. Single
  49.     clicking a font alone will select one font, but will deselect
  50.     all other selected fonts.
  51.     
  52.     To deselect a font, you can SHIFT-CLICK and rubber-band 
  53.     the desired fonts. Clicking outside of the font menu
  54.     or pressing UNDO will also deselect all of the fonts.
  55.     ( Except the ARROW and SLIDER buttons ).

  58. POINT SIZE OPTIONS ( MAIN MENU )
  59.     Double-Clicking on a font will display a viewer to modify the
  60.     font's point sizes.
  61.     
  62.     The viewer will display:
  63.     
  64.     1) The current font name. For long font names, arrows are available
  65.        to scroll through the font name.
  66.        
  67.     2) Current Point Sizes
  68.     
  69.     3) ADD POINT SIZE BUTTON
  70.        Clicking on this will bring up a viewer to add a single point size
  71.        to the existing list.
  72.        
  73.     4) DELETE POINT SIZE BUTTON
  74.        The button will only appear if the user has selected the point
  75.        sizes.  Clicking on this button will remove the selected
  76.        point sizes.
  77.        
  78.     5) USE DEFAULTS BUTTON
  79.        Clicking on this button will SET the point sizes for this font
  80.        to the current DEFAULT point sizes.

  82.     6) OK/CANCEL buttons
  83.        OK:     Exit with the new attributes set.
  84.        Cancel: Restore the attributes to their former settings.

  87. SAVE/EXIT BUTTONS ( MAIN MENU )
  88.     1) SAVE BUTTON: This button will save the current attributes
  89.             into the EXTEND.SYS file.
  90.             
  91.     2) EXIT BUTTON: This button will exit the CPX.

  93.     3) CLOSE WINDOW:This button will exit the CPX. IF a change was
  94.             made to the attributes, the user will be prompted
  95.             to save the EXTEND.SYS.

  98. COMMAND SUMMARY ( OUTLINE FONT MANAGER POPUP )
  99. The commands/options possible from the popup menu:
  100.  
  101.     1) Outline Font Setup
  102.        Display a viewer that allows the user to modify the font
  103.        caches, symbol fonts, hebrew fonts, width tables, font
  104.        paths and default point sizes.
  105.        
  106.        The default point sizes is the same as the one above with
  107.        several minor differences.  This one allows you to set
  108.        ALL fonts to the default point sizes. This function does not
  109.        have an UNDO feature.
  110.

  112.     2) Show Active/Inactive Fonts
  113.        Show the Active or Inactive Fonts in the font menu. The Symbol
  114.        and Hebrew Fonts do not appear in the font menu.
  115.      
  116.     3) Save 'EXTEND.SYS'
  117.        Save the 'EXTEND.SYS' file. The EXTEND.SYS file will be 
  118.        written out to either 'A:\' or 'C:\'.

  120.     4) Make Width Tables
  121.        Create Width Table files for those fonts in the existing
  122.        EXTEND.SYS. The width tables created will be good only
  123.        for the current video resolution. FSM-GDOS must be installed
  124.        in order for this menu item to appear.

  126.     5) Activate/Deactivate Font(s)
  127.        Activate or Deactivate the selected fonts in the font menu.
  128.        The selected fonts will be removed and the font menu will
  129.        be recreated and redrawn.
