- Oklib's Revenge - author Sue Medley £5.00
- (AGTBIG text adventure for PC, ST and Amiga)
-
- PC reviewed by John "U" Betteridge
-
- To all of those who are fans of a certain, conniving American army
- Sergeant of TV fame, this game will give you a certain amount of
- pleasure. All the characters in the series get a mention, but the
- game has little to do with their TV roles.
-
- When I received the game and read the title, I thought that I
- might play the part of "Namrebod", but not to worry, the Doberman
- is there.
-
- At the start of the game you are 'pointed out' by the crafty
- Sergeant Oklib to 'volunteer' to find the King's Staff (a long
- rod, not his office workers), obviously an object of Power. Then
- you are transported into the game and the fun begins.
-
- Your initial explorations will take you to the Lake shore, Cliff
- edge, round the Castle and through the Forest to the Giants'
- house. You will find enough clues to give you some idea of the
- order of play.
-
- Playing the game is standard Adventuring with the usual commands.
- Although it is not mentioned in the Intro, you can use the F keys
- for some of the commands and the Cursor keys to move N, S, E and
- W. The game can be played straight from the floppy disk and
- copying it to the Hard Disk presented no problems. When saving or
- restoring you are given the option of which directory to save to
- or restore from.
-
- Some of the replies can be a bit irksome eg the room description
- tells you there is an 'object' present but if you try to do things
- with it the reply sometimes is "What 'object', there is no
- 'object' here." This is due, I am told, to the way the game was
- written using the AGT program. But you can be sure that you can
- deal with the 'object' at some other locations.
-
- For the pacifists among you, you will be pleased to note that
- there is no fighting allowed. The puzzles are many, well thought
- out and logical. I particularly liked the dragon's riddle.
-
- I enjoyed playing this game very much, from the initial
- explorations to the exciting completion. As a standard text
- adventure it is excellent. The descriptions are brief but
- informative and all contribute to the "atmosphere" of the game.
-
- I look forward to Sue's next adventure.
-
