Just a quick file to tell all my fans about my stories.
Perdle 1 was written for Digital Aubergine (good name eh?), the Manchester University SF&F society's fanzine. Many people claim not to understand it. I listened to their complaints and this was good.
Perdle 2 was also written for the Aubergine, once again I listened to the plaintive complaining and once again this was good.
Perdle 3 was ALSO written for the Aubergine but after I had left Uni in a storm of political controversy. It is based on a friend called (strangely) Neal Tringham. This is not his fault, but he reminds everyone of a penguin (or possibly a hamster).
Perdle 4 was written for Aberdeen University's fanzine "The Radioactive Mutant Spleen Zine", it was written after many harrowing hours playing on the ST. People tell me that this one is too sensible and that they actually understood it. This is not good.
NOTE: Any apparent spelling mistakes in the above Perdle stories are entirely deliberate and adds to the story (though some might say that would be hard).
If anyone is interested in the alien language used in Perdle 1 and Perdle 2 then I recommend you read Eric Frank Russell's "Next of Kin" - a very funny book.
It has been said that Perdle may become a cult figure. This is entirely up to you.
The Vogon Poems were based, of course, on Douglas Adams' original concept with additional help from Monty Python. I take no blame for people gnawing their own arms off in desperation.
Planet is unashamedly based on Hitch Hikers (Sorry D.A.), and may well be an ongoing project with people (or even just me) writing one page on every planet etc.
Traveller is a hackneyed old idea I know but it had to be written. This one came to me in the rain, and my girlfriend sussed it by the third paragraph. Apologies if the different dinosaurs didn't exist concurrently.
Time Mine is without doubt a fine idea. It came to me after reading a New Scientist article on weaponry of the future (your caring, sharing armed forces!).
You know what they say about SF writers - they all HAVE to write time machine stories, the end of the world stories and dinosaur extinction stories. Well that's my lot, so next time I shall write something different.
Well, that about all folks, hope you like them all. Wait with baited breath for QUARK 2 and do please correspond with me to let me know what you think. If anyone wants to publish any of them (be it in fanzines, toilet roll or prestigious collection just let me know and I'm sure to be amenable. I'm at: 52 Avis Road, Denton, Newhaven, Sussex, BN9 OPN, England.
