- ~~~~ PART 3 ~~~~
- ================

-
- Well, I wasn't going to do this but because it is so bad, I am going to
- finish the whole story in this issue. If you can remember, I wrote this
- story back in Junior school and that's why it's so cr*p. Nothing has been
- given proper thought to so after this issue, we can say goodbye to this
- piece of shit.
- Please send in your stories, no matter how long or short otherwise we're
- going to have an empty story corner again and I hate that.
- Send 'em in to the normal address.

- CHAPTER 4 - EXPLORING
-
-
- "Right, this is what we are going to do, first two of us are going to
- take the two bombers, go back and look for survivors to pick up and bring
- here to live. Now whowants to do that; you don't have to be able to fly and
- we'll keep in touch with you on the planes radio." James proposed, Alex,
- Sandy and Nigel all put there hands up, "Excellent, now are you sure?", they
- all nodded slowly. "Alright, Sandy you go in the bomber, Alex, you go in
- the bomber too and Nigel, you can take the Jet Fighter, now always leave
- your radios on, I'll take you through the problems step by step." The three
- friends agreed and then got in their planes,
- "GOOD LUCK!!!" everyone shouted as they waved and shouted.
-
- There were only four people left on the island now, they were Bill Scarlet,
- Joe Harris, Philip Vaudrey and James Musgrave,
- "O.k, let's tune in to our brave friends to see what they're doing."
- They turned on the radio only to hear non-stop shouting saying that they
- were out of fuel,
- "Oh no, we forgot about that, we were low on fuel coming here, the fuel
- tanks must be empty by now, what...What..." James started to panic,
- "Wh...What can we do, we can't afford to lose anymore people, they'd only be
- four of us left, we...we..."
- "Calm down," said Philip, "Look, you've got to understand, it wasn't
- your fault!" continued Philip, suddenly the radio went fuzzy and voices
- ceased to make themselves heard. Had the planes crashed?
- "Oh no, it's all my fault, I just...I just can't..." James collapsed
- onto the floor virtually in tears but with a bit of urging from his three
- friends, he decided to go exploring with them. They walked around, through
- forests and past lakes, through the snow and ice. It was freezing on the
- island so when they found a cave they were glad to go inside. It was nice
- and warm in the cave, but they were quite amazed to see a big network of
- tunnels and passages leading this way and that all over the place. They
- decided that because this was probably going to be their new home that they
- had better explore, so they followed the passages left and right, through
- clearings and over icy bridges. What they seemed to notice was that nearly
- all the time they had a fresh water stream following the passages which they
- were very grateful for. They gave everything names, for instance the fresh
- water stream was called 'The Life Saver Stream'. There were two other
- streams to the Norht West of the island which was called 'The Solo Stream'
- which was sea water and the other was in the South East and was called 'The
- Needless Stream'. They found a deep hole which was teeming with life; they
- called this 'The Fresh Collect'. They explored the underground world for a
- number of days while feeding on fresh fish from 'The Fresh Collect' and
- drinking water from 'The Life Saver Stream'. As they started to go deeper
- and deeper into the caves, they started finding new and amazing things. For
- instance, the amazingly strange clearing full of stalactites and
- stalagmites, that also had a forest of around one thousand trees in it, it
- was at least one mile in length! They called it 'The Vaudrey Clearing',
- they named it after Philip. There was another clearing that they called the
- 'T.V Time' because it was a T.V shape. The undeground world was full of
- strange things like 'The Dragon' which was the name they had given to the
- volcano. Yes! There was an actual volcano down there. It seemd very
- unlikely that it would errupt; it was about two thousand feet high but most
- of it was emmbedded in what seemed like a bottomless dip in the ground.
-
- After around five days of exploring the undeground world, they decided to
- see what this island was like on top. They explored only to find a
- dangerously high cliff of around a mile high which was named (and quite
- rightly), 'The Death Drop'. There was a mountain that stood at at least one
- and a half miles high, towering above the whole of the island. There were
- many long streams, groups of hills and forests, there was even a tiny island
- just off the coast of the island by about two hundred metres. Night came
- quickly and it was their thirteenth night when a few things went horribly
- wrong...
-
-
- CHAPTER 5 - THE THIRTEENTH DAY
-
-
- The group of friends had decided to go for a walk around their island so
- they could have a proper look at their new home. First, they went down into
- the warm aired caves which were now used as their home quite often, although
- the previous night they had slept in the forest. They headed to the 'Fresh
- Collect' to get some food stocked up. As soon as they got there, they
- wished they hadn't. An enormus polar bear lay in front of them eating a
- dead fish. As they entered, it got up and started to roar loudly, straight
- away, they all ran for it. They got out safely but what about their food?
- The only place where they knew where food was was 'The Fresh Collect'!
- "We'll go back in an hour or so!" James said, they did, but the bear
- was still there only this time it had made a hole in the wall and was
- sleeping in it. This was its new home!
-
- Not knowing what to do, they immediately went to look for another source of
- food. They headed in a Southern direction as they had not explored those
- parts much. Eventually they got to the 'Death Drop',
- "Look, what's that?" James said pointing to the edge of the cliff, "I
- think it's another water hole!"
- "What, one and a half miles up?!" said Bill
- "It was probably...Well, I don't know but let's have a closer look
- anyway!" continued James. So they ran over to the edge of the cliff. It
- WAS a water hole and it DID have life!!! There was water splashed all over
- the sides making it very slippery and with the speed James was running at,
- it had to end up with him sliding off the edge, and it did!!! There James
- hung, over a mile up in the air, Bill, Philip and Joe all ran over to help
- him, they didn't know what to do. It was too slippery to pull him up by
- hand, they'd probably fall over with him! Time was running out - James's
- hands started to bleed as the sharp rocks he was clinging to started to
- peirce his skin,
- "Ahhh, help me!!!" James shouted, gritting his teeth. Then Joe
- suddenly had a great idea, he grabbed a small tree that was next to him and
- bent it down to James,
- "Hold this!" he shouted. He then grabbed some fish from the water hole
- and ran back to the cave as fast as he could. He grabbed some rope that
- they had made from branches and vines for occasions like this and then ran
- to the polar bear. Straight away, he started luring him to the cliff with
- the fish, he tied the rope around the bears neck and threw the other end
- down to James which he grabbed. Then the polar bear saw the fish hole with
- all the fish and started running towards it while pulling up James at the
- same time. James collapsed into a heap on the ground and soothed his
- bleeding hands by rubbing it on the snow,
- "That was one hell of a day!" James sighed.
-
-
- CHAPTER 6 - STRANDED
-
-
- It was the 42nd day on the island when the group of scientists got stranded
- on 'Coast Isle'. 'Coast Isle' is a tiny island (about one mile long and
- half a mile wide) about two hundred metres away from the coast of the island
- (which has now been named 'Mystic Isle'). Our friends decided that they
- wanted to see this tree covered island up close, so they started work on a
- boat made from the trees from 'Idle Forest'. It took them about three and a
- half hard working days to create a little boat that was more like a raft
- with a pair of strong wooden oars.
-
- After their creation was finished, they set off to the tiny island. It took
- them about five minutes of hard rowing to get there as the tides were
- against them but when they arrived, they just wanted to explore. So they
- did.
-
- After about ten minutes, they found out that there was nothing intresting or
- of use to them on the island, just trees, trees and more trees. They didn't
- find a single cave or even a water hole and they felt a little let down.
- They had taken the liberty to spen over three hard working days on building
- a boat that wasn't even needed!!!
-
- They decided to leave but they couldn't find the boat anywhere,
- "I sweat like a pig for three days, my muscles hurt and now we can't
- even find the boat we came in...GREAT!!!" Joe said irritabily. They started
- walking all around the coast until they found marks in the snow of where the
- boat had been dragged up. It was quite obvious to them what had happened,
- they didn't care HOW it had happened, they just knew that they were stranded
- on a tiny island without any food or fresh water and it was going to take
- them at least 3 days to build another boat to get home.
-
- "GREAT!!!" said James now feeling as annoyed as Joe.
-
- They decided after a brief discusion that they would have to make a small
- raft so they could be back on their good old island in about a day. That's
- what they did, they worked as hard as possible without any breaks. They
- chopped down thin trees from the forest with sharp flints, making their own
- rope out of vines, creepers and then tying the wood together.
-
- After a day of very hard work, they had finished and they started rowing
- back to their island, where they then got a very well deserved rest and were
- all glad to be back.
-
-
- CHAPTER 7 - LOST
-
-
- It was the 56th day of their stay on the island, and the group had just
- woken up to see Sandy, Nigel and Alex standing infront of them smiling,
- "Sandy...Nigel, Alex...Is that you?!" James asked in a slightly worried
- manner.
- James woke up the other three and they were all amazed. They all sat down
- over some fish and Sandy told them what had happened...
-
- "Well, as you must know, we went crashing into the sea. Well, the
- planes were made to float!!! We were alright although bits of the planes
- were damaged like the radio. Then we found some emergency rations in the
- back of both bombers so we skimmed across the water for a few days, found
- survivors and here we are. We arrived about two weeks ago, we've been
- looking for you all this time!!!"
-
- James looked puzzled,
- "Where are these survivors then?" he asked. As he spoke, four women
- stepped out from behind a big rock and introduced themselves. They all got
- to know eachother and then James and co decided to show them around the
- island.
-
- They took them around to the caves, the death drop and then took them to
- 'Musgrave Plain' to show them the 'Coast Isle' but when they got back to the
- pplain they lost sence of direction and were suddenly lost! Being lost took
- them to 'Forest Isle', the biggest forest on the island, now they were
- completley stuck. They wandered around for hours going this way and that,
- marking the trees they had gone past with a bit of mud on the trunk, but it
- was no use.
-
- It was starting to get dark and finding their way back was going to be even
- harder now so they decided that they should get a good nights sleep and
- sleep in the forest that night.
-
- That night was the worst night of their lives. Polar bears were roaming the
- forest and sniffing about, it seemed that the animals didn't go to sleep at
- all.
-
- When they woke up, they started to try and get back again. There was a
- strong blizzard starting, so it was quite hard work when Nigel suddenly
- shouted,
- "Look, there's our planes!!!" he was pointing towards the three ruined
- planes, "We landed those opposite the caves so thats the West so we've got
- to walk East which is this way!" Nigel showed the way and he was right -
- Soon they were back on known ground and all felt safe and alot happier
- again.
-
-
- THE EPILOGUE
-
-
- I am telling this story of one of my distant realitives - My great, great,
- great, great Uncle to be exact in the year 2284.
-
- The World now lives as it used to and there are no signs that nuclear war
- ever happened; the radiation is gone and all the different countries have
- rebuilt their towns and cities again but we are very far behind in the 'Hi-
- Tec' world because we had so few people to pass down the information and all
- records and books of that kind of information were destroyed.
-
- It was my distant Uncle and a few of his friends that saved the World. They
- had babies on the island and as the radiation went, the children spread to
- other countries.
-
- Think of what would have happened if James Musgrave and his friends hadn't
- have left the research establishment...
-
- Would Mankind still exist?
-
-
-
- THE END (Thank God!!!)
-
-
-
- Well, that's it. Here is the comment and mark I got when I had had this
- story marked:
-
- "The story started extremley promisingly. You took rather a long time to
- get to the island and your 'adventures' there were a bit disappointing, but
- you write well with flair and imagination. I liked the Prolouge and
- Epilogue."
-
- I got 39 out of 50 for that story. I didn't deserve it did I?!
-
- Anyway, I hope you can write me a story for publication in POWER. Send it
- in to the normal address. It doesn't matter what it is about, how long or
- short it is and it will be widely uncensored so go on, send in a story and
- give us something to do because there is nothing worse than having an empty
- story corner!!!
-
- Well, there is actually - Imagine a nuclear war and you being one of the few
- survivors!!! I'll leave you to think over that one.
-
