-
- Files that end in .ARC have been Archived. They are a file or a
- group of files that have been reduced in size. This is done to save on
- space and to allow several files to be grouped together into one file.
-
- For the files to be UN-ARCHIVED ie: decompressed, there has to be
- sufficient disk space available for the computer to read the ARC file,
- un-archive it, and then write the un-archived file back to the disk.
-
- THERE IS NOT ENOUGH DISK SPACE ON THIS INSIDE INFO TO UN-ARCHIVE THE ARC
- FILES.
-
- What needs to be done if you are unfamiliar with this procedure is to
- copy the PROGRAMS Folder to a blank disk and un-archive it there.
- Users with 2 disk drives, Hard drive users and those with expertise in
- RAM disks can move onto step 6 below.
-
- For single drive owners here is the procedure.
-
- 1/ First make a copy of the Inside Info Disk. If you are familiar with
- copying routines, either the ST's own or other more sophisticated ones,
- move onto step 6
-
- 2/ Get a pen and a blank formatted disk and write an "A" on the Inside Info
- Disk and move the copy protect tab on the disk so that a hole appears.
- Write a "B" on the blank disk.
-
- 3/ from the ST's Desktop, click on the DRIVE A Icon once, with the left
- mouse button and move it over to the DRIVE B Icon. Release the Left
- mouse button and a dialog box will appear asking whether you wish to
- copy from disk A to B. Don't worry about not having disk drive B. The
- data from disk A will be copied into the ST's memory and then back onto
- the disk into drive A. Just follow the prompts.
-
- 4/ Select OK from the dialog box. You will then be given an option to
- select COPY or EXIT. Click on COPY and you will be asked to insert Disk
- B into the drive. After a short while you will be asked to insert
- Disk A, then Disk B, then Disk A then B again. Make sure you don't
- insert the wrong disk or you will end up copying a blank disk. When the
- copying is complete you will come back to a box that says COPY and EXIT.
- Click on EXIT or you will have to copy the disk again.
-
- 5/ Now that you yave a copy of Inside Info, select all of the folders and
- files on the disk except for the folder called PROGRAMS and drag
- everything else to the trashcan. That's right we only want to keep the
- PROGRAMS folder.
-
- 6/ Now open the PROGRAMS folder and double click on the file called
- UNARC.PRG, the program will run and a window will appear with a number
- of options.
-
- 7/ All you have to do is click on the box called ARC and the program will
- extract every file and place it in its own folder. In the process it will
- delete all the ARC files to save on space, unless specifically asked
- not to do so. An option is available for hard drive users to set up a
- pathway so the program can find ARC TTP.
