- <f1><c000> nostalgic feelings resurrected? <f0>
-
- general view by Grey / MSB

-
- After 5 years of absence the great and the biggest <link=quast2.scr>Atari party in Poland</l> has
- been resurrected! Suddenly, surprisingly, successfully! Nobody expected that
- many attendees including... the organizer! Of course QuaST parties always
- gathered a lot of Atarians even up to 200ppl (!) but that was many years
- ago... We all thought the scene was dying, a lot of atarians had vanished for
- good... Van Eijk (the main organizer) did something like an inquiry on the
- official www-site asking ppl if they would like to attend the party... 102 ppl
- replied! That was surely a good sign but keep in mind that many of these ppl
- didn't promise they will come for sure! Van Eijk was even wondering if it was
- possible to beat the result from the 1st edition of QuaST party where... ca. 30
- atarians came.
-
- And guess what? That was just unbelievable... Yup, this result was beaten so
- easily... it wasn't beaten 2 times... it wasn't beaten 3 times... Ladies and
- gentlemen - QuaST Party A.D. 2003 gathered 120 (!!!) atarians from every small
- nook and cranny in Poland! :)
-
- QuaST party was brought to life in 2003 to give Atarians a chance to meet once
- again after many years... and finally to finish the "QuaST parties" story for
- good. But the story won't be finished - it was absolutely the bestseller in the
- history of Atari parties and the organizer even asked: "who said it was the
- last edition?" :) Even more! At the beginning he planned to organize another
- QuaST party in 2005 (hum! every 2nd year? I guess we know it already!) but
- under pressure of Atarians he changed his mind once again :)
-
- Because there was only a few entries given to compos Van Eijk wants to make a
- deal - do at least 3 asskicking demos for Atari XL/XE and I will think about it
- seriously! Surprisingly it wasn't too big an obstacle for the scene community
- and they want to jump over it giving us their new sweeties at the forthcoming
- edition! :)
-
- Unfortunately ST/Falcon community was out of luck... Ca. 15 ppl came which was
- a ridiculous amount in comparison to the 8-bit Atari fellowz... :( Not to
- mention about the lack of ANY demo-stuff which was a real shame if you remember
- the old times... Sorry to say that but Van Eijk neglected his own roots. Why do
- I think like that? Well, I've had a felling that Artur (that's his real name)
- did this party to "clean up" himself from the many sins he was blamed for after
- the QuaST party '98 (insane stories about collecting money from atarians
- pockets to buy a car etc. while he did his driver license a few years later...
- etc).
- The official www-site was done enough time before the party but... well,
- updates were damn rare, no news etc. I had a strange feeling taking a look at
- this site... It was that I could hardly find any real motivation coming from
- Van Eijk... Not to mention the lack of any invitro(s) for ST or Falcon as per
- the years before... He doesn't have any Atari machine anymore even if it's so
- cheap nowadays... The Polish community was crying for an invitation in english
- dedicated to our fellowz abroad... nothing. Some ppl offered to help, no
- answer... And ca. 3 weeks before the party an english invitation cropped up...
- too late... really too late.
-
- Another sign that Van Eijk is "ST un-plugged" was a show of ST demos on the
- video-beamer... all stuff was run under... Steem on PeeZee... Think what you
- want but it was a shameless PROFANITY in my opinion! Running ST stuff under
- PeeZee emu on Atari party? Good Lord! Not to mention that many demos were
- fuckin' up, sound was crap... arf. Falcon stuff... What stuff btw? I didn't
- see any demo shown on the screen within' these 3 days. I heard there was a
- small presentation during the 1st day - of course under DiVX... Sadness. It
- was caused due to lack of a plug or something... but Van Eijk should know it if
- he is an owner of video-beamer, ex die-hard ST/Falcon fan and organizer of all
- QuaST editions in the past... :(
-
-
- But please don't get me wrong here, I've had a lot of fun being there! Maximum
- respect for Van Eijk for giving us such a great chance to meet each other,
- drink, talk... gee, whatever else! :) It was surely one of the coolest parties
- for 8-bit folx! But being a part of ST/Falcon community I noticed all these
- "lacks" and I took it quite emotionally... It was just so hard to dig out this
- special atari spirit known from previous editions when ST stuff was run on the
- ORIGINAL machine instead of PeeZee emu... :/ But from the sociable side it was
- a *PERFECT* event! I felt like being on a great vacation - laying in the sun
- near the lake, drinkin' beer with my scene-friends, eating pizza... driving by
- car with Sqward/MSB and drunk Winio/Cobra all over the city, screaming to
- chicks and throwing various stuff out of the car window (Winio threw an empty
- bottle into "bald heads" direction - We were pushed to run away as much as it
- was possible ;))
-
- I hope future editions will be more SCENISH for us, ST/Falcon freaks. And who
- knows, maybe we will become the witness also of our scene resurrection in
- Poland?
-
- See ya all next year!
-
-
- p.s. I managed to achieve another success which I forgot to mention! I was
- at the party-place together with my Wife and Son :) Sylwia was nicely
- surprised after introducing her to my scene-mates! She said something
- like: "Hmm, so these computer maniacs aren't that bad... nice guys"
- ;) Heh. Great! Thanx for all for being so NICE for my sweet 2nd half!
- :) It was also the 1st Atari party for my cute follower - my son
- Dawid :) He seemed to like it and even had a wide smile for Cedyn of
- Shadows ;) (as Cedyn said: children and dogs like him) - eheh... :)
