- short comment and collection by Grey / MSB
- ----------------------------------------------------------------- -- - --- ----
-
- I don't remember the exact date of this day... but it was a *really*
- exceptional one. Why? For the first time I felt that someone seriously CARED
- about the future of atari diskmags. FINALLY. You can't imagine how much I
- needed such a sign... And all thanx to the man with Slovak blood running in
- veins - Mikro who did open discussion about our effort for the scene (and who
- reinforced the MSB ranks lately!). His post on DHS BBS was successful enough to
- force some sceners to take part in such a debate. He did something that was out
- of my reach for a long time! And even if I don't share the same vision about
- "marriage" of 3 different diskmags I am so GREATFUL to him for caring about our
- future!
- Deepest respect from the editors' community, pal!
-
- Such signs help us to find the sense of our work... Amazing how the smallest
- things can move the mountains...
-
- If you did miss this interesting discussion by accident then look at the lines
- below to find out!

- READER'S THOUGHTS CONCERNING DISKMAGS FUTURE!
- listenin' to the voice of the scene

-
- Hi, I'm reading that posts below and in my mind is only one think: WHY??? Why
- we need three independent diskmags, with 3 independent main editors but with
- ONE TOPIC and that is our very small atari scene. In objective point of view -
- Alive and UCM are practically the same, only editors are different. Chosneck is
- a big step ahead, Grey is on the right way (not writing about same demos again
- and again), but his mag is unusable for plain falcon owners (I mean full
- quality, .asc files are still readable ;-) What about joining forces, let's
- make ONE mag with 1 month periodicity (maybe two), UCM shell will be used for
- ST/F030 4MB owners and Chosneck for 14 MB owners (at least till Sqward code 4MB
- shell) ? STS, Moondog, Grey - you give a lot of energy and nerves into each
- issue, it's SO important, to have "own" mag?
-
- Every month I'm reading: please support us with articles, grafix etc from THREE
- people who make THE ONE SAME THING. Crazy huh?
-
- I would be more happy to have one mag but more scene production for ST/F030
- (how much time takes coding Chosneck shell, hm, Sqward? :)
-
- Hm, ok, that's all I would to say. Try to think about it, please. The fact PC
- scene have tens of mags don't mean we have to copy them. One, but perfect mag
- is my solution.
-
- mikro
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Perhaps it is to have 3 atari releases per year instead of 1 ? :-)
-
- Stop joking, associating your mind, knowledge, and talent would be, as Mikro
- said, a great idea...
-
- Don't be selfish, because 1 issue is more easy to achieve by 3 persons than 3
- issues by 1 person..
-
- Think about that, men, anyway keep the great job on ...!
-
- Respectfully, Cooper/TCP.
-

-
- STS and MOONDOG together, pity for us MJJs.

- I agree a lot about the presence of 1 unique diskmag on the Atari scene too.
- For me, severals opinions on a prod are really interesting and each writer can
- always write his own review of a prod in a single diskmag, even if one says
- that it rules and the other says its pure shit, that one gives detailled
- ratings and the other not, etc...
-
- Another great point is that everyone could read Grey's and others Chosneck
- writers' opinions. :)
-
- Also it would be more easier for the musicians (eheh ;p ). Right now there's a
- total of 6 chiptunes request for the 2 Earx-menu based diskmags, quite a lot in
- my opinion when you see the content of one YM-Rockerz compils for example...

-
- I like the current situations with three atari diskmags very much. All mags
- have completely different moods, which can not be merged into one. Alive is a
- reflection of Sebastien's and CiH's mind, which Undercover expresses the
- viewpoint of moondog - which is completely different! Chosneck again, can not
- be compared with the UCM or Alive because of its unique style (both writing and
- design) and topics.
-
- We have the great situation of having three different diskmags from three
- different countries - I enjoy this diversity. Having only one diskmag would
- kill the diskmag scene and would be very demotivating for me personally. In a
- way diskmags document the life of the scene - only having one view angle would
- be very sad.
-
- Mikro: I can not understand that you consider UCM to be the same as Alive.
-
- I personally like more to have three different diskmags than three issues of
- one diskmags in a certain period of time.

- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- don't need to repeat normans' words. just: !!!
-
- nemo
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- I agree with Norman 1000%!
-
- Besides:
-
- 3 mags = 3 times the chance there will be intros & tunes from talented people
- for the rest to enjoy ;)))

-
- I think if there were three authors making the one magazine, their unique
- perspective wouldn't be lost. They would leave their own "stamp" on the
- articles they write... they could even have their own sections, with their own
- graphics, music etc.
-
- I really think that combination of effort = improvement
-
- Barnyard Bill
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Well I think the key is that the creators of the mags have to decide whether
- they have too much work with their mags or not. If so, its better to have them
- in another mag than loosing their talent when they give up. As long as they
- have fun in their work three mags might be a bit boring, but nobody is forced
- to read a review of a demo three times...:-)
-
- I am very excited what the result will be... anyway as I mention somewhere else
- I also support standard falcon mags..

-
- I think it was time I added my comments to this thread! please note that it's a
- personal point of view and nothing more!
-
- someone said it had to be FUN and to be honest I feel like that since I moved
- out in last January, no one but CiH is still doing things for Alive! Even our
- regular writers and collaborators have "vanished" ! So far we have had very
- very little support from the Scene for this issue...
-
- Moondog is writing most of his stuff, he's crazy :) I don't want to do that !
- Dunno about Grey but surely he's spending a lot of time asking for the same
- stuff again and again...
-
- I won't say more about merging now... I'll work on alive7 again now and I hope
- we'll get more support otherwise this issue won't be finished before long...

- grey, moondog, sts:
-
- don't listen to the rest. it's your hobby, you are the one who has to enjoy it.
- so what if some people want you to cooperate, while others want you to stay
- unique. simply don't listen and keep on having fun doing what you're doing.
- this is the scene, never ever let anyone tell you what to do.

-
- hi peeps
-
- as i'm the last one that belongs to the editors posse that didnœt answered here
- i will do so now...
-
- the point i reactivated ucm in 2oo1 was because i just wanted to bring back
- some diversity, this was more or less the only reason! i know, development is
- going slower and slower, for every magazine, but as norman said, we need
- diversity, we need competition... over all it isnœt our fault, the editors
- fault, that the development goes slower and slower, the reason is more or less
- the more and more missing support from the scene itself... to back up this
- point of view i browsed to many older issues and i remember many people writing
- articles for the single magazines, that are still around, but don't give their
- hand anymore... i donœt know about the reasons and i wont blame them for this,
- but it is a fact...
-
- and isn't it a bit sad to force the editors to join their forces to create at
- least one magazine while many possible writers donœt care about to gave their
- hand as well?! i know that our mags were red by hundreds of people, that are
- showing the download rates and hits on the online version of ucm, and so i
- really wonder why not even 1% (!) of the leechers/readers is going to give us a
- hand?!
-
- the scene seems to be more and more just a consuming one, but this isn't the
- way to go... today many people are asking and waiting for new issues, but the
- help stays out nearly completely... i even would say, the readers would wait
- the mags to death instead joining our forces and express their thoughts in the
- different magazines...
-
- I wont moan around here, that were just a few thoughts about this topic... and
- i want to add something more...
-
- because of some private problems i will slow down my activities on the scene at
- all a lot over the next time... ucm # 24 will be released, no question, maybe
- not in the shape it was thought, but it will be kicked out... i wont speak
- about the time after ucm # 24, i really donœt know what will happen after the
- release, but it still lays also in the hands of possible contributors... i'm
- still working to create a new writers team and little more help would it make
- bit easier for me to stay active and to release ucm...
-
- this doesn't mean that ucm is dead! but it could mean we will have a longer
- break after issue 24...
-
- ok, as always, you know how to reach me if you want to give a hand...
-
-
- greetings, moondog

- "we want revolution - constant evolution"

- and I doubt merging things together that stood independent before and over all
- were created out of one thing, isn't evolution but a big step backwards...
