- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- cofounder of one of the coolest ST bands from Poland!
- responsible for many STunning releases!
-
- do you miss these blokes at atari scene?
- would you like to know what happens with them these days?
-
- yea', finally I MADE IT!
-
- Klocek has been caught leavin' army's gate!
-
- by Grey / Mystic Bytes
-
- polish2english by Egaheer / Syntax!
- ---------------------------------------------------- ---- ----- ------- ---- --
-
- Missiles flyin' over your head
- If you wanna survive get out of bed
- You're in the army now
- Oh oh you're in the army now
- Shots ring out in the dead of night
- The sergeant calls: "Stand up and fight!"
-
- ...heh, it's hopefully over! =)
-
-
- Grey: My best congrats, mate! You are ALIVE! I guess it's rather painful
- x-perience being in polish army?! ;) Anyway it's great to see that
- you survived and you didn't skip your scene activities!
-
- Klocek: I've been ducking military service for a long time (they took me
- when I was 22). Luckily I was able to serve that year in an elite
- formation namely the Military Police. First I went to the school
- of Military Police in Poznan, where they were teachin' us some
- elements of law, self-defence, military tactics, traffic control,
- etc., etc.
-
- After three months we took the senior officer exam. Then they sent
- me to MP base in my city (for my good grades). We were patrolling
- the streets of Torun, those were good times. Sometimes it was hard,
- I mean, learnin' plenty of stuff 'bout the law of using: guns, cuffs,
- gas, batons, various regulations etc. It was a very pleasant time and
- I would do it again:) (Over my dead body - Egaheer)
-
- Grey: Some time ago you left the army's gate... the "fun" is over, buddy!
- How did you feel leavin' your soldier friends? Did you spill at least
- one tear?
-
- Klocek: At first there was no other option than stayin' in MP (Dream on -E.),
- but the terms of prolonged service in MP scared not only me, but also
- two other guys from my year and all the others from younger one. 430
- (!!!!) HOURS IN A MONTH FOR 1100zl. So unfortunately, I resigned from
- this prestigious service.
-
- 25.06.(2003) was my last day in MP. I came out with Damien and
- Seweryn. The unit's Veterans. :) We've left our younger buds, who
- followed in our foot steps. On this memorable day the unit Commander
- ordered, that we should be escorted to the Town Hall with all
- honours. We were the most distinguished conscripts in the history of
- the Torun MP base.
-
- Grey: What were your first impressions after your comeback to "reality"?
- Did you notice some positive changes around? Or did all seem to be
- even worse?
-
- Klocek: HA! Lack of superiors, and what follows - lack of duties (Who r u
- tryin' to fool ;)-E.), no asking for a leave... simply total freedom.
- I took Egaheer (my fiancee) for a months vacation by the sea, and
- then we spent a few days by the lake. She didn't like the time when
- I was in the Army, she missed me very much. (Yeah, right ;) -E.)
-
- Now I've got a job (or more specifically - a lot of building
- commissions). During a period of unemployment, tired of pretty low
- temperatures, I've had myself some winter holidays. :)
-
- Grey: When you did a 1st step to your flat did you check if your trustful
- plastic ST friend is still sittin' on the desk? =) Or did you need
- some more time to resurrect this feeling?
-
- Klocek: Unfortunately, my computer was locked in the closet, so my sis'
- couldn't have damaged it. Another case is that about three years ago
- my CACHE had broken down, so I got pissed off a little. This meant
- that half a year before the army, I've hidden MEGE (Mega STE) in my
- closet. A week after I came back from the army I took my poor MEGA
- ST, which was lyin' under bunch of clothes and turned it on. (Ha!
- I got earlier some scene productions from the net). I've missed a lot
- of things: STNICCC, ODDSTUFF, WOLFSTEIN, POSH, DARKNESS, etc. Nice!
- I checked if the CACHE works... and I was shocked. It fixed itself!
- I guess it got scared of the closet :)
-
- Grey: And now please remind us of some details concerning you, buddy. How
- old are you? What are ya doing in the so called "real life"?
-
- Klocek: Jarek K., 24 years old
- single (but not for long:)
-
- My hobby is ATARI.
-
- I'm on ATARI ST scene since 1997.
-
- My favourite demos are:
-
- Brain Damage, Posh, Fantasia, Ecstasy, Syntax Terror, Froggies
-
- Favourite games:
-
- Obsession, Ishar, Dungeon Master, SubStation, Lemmings, Stone Age and
- Stardust.
-
- Grey: Are you able to dig out from memory Your 1st "touch" with fuji keyz?
- How did you become a user of this dream machine?
-
- Klocek: Few years ago I went to my bud to play computer games. I was 12 years
- old. I remember, this magic stuff called little Atari (65XE) was
- standing on his desk. He put a tape in a tape recorder, we waited
- while watchin' TV. The first game that he showed me was FRED (this
- game was released by L.K. AVALON). It was 1992, so you didn't need
- much stuff in games to play them for hours. I really liked this
- platform game, he also showed me World Karate, which I knew earlier
- from shops and Ace of Aces, which had beaten up all the other stuff
- that I'd seen then. I bought this computer from him and used it 'till
- 1995, when I saw in computer shop an Atari MEGA STE with SM 146
- screen. Soon I've become its happy owner. My brother was in the same
- class as Yoyo, so I didn't have any problems with software.
-
- Grey: Did you ever regret your love to any Atari machine? Maybe you have
- had some moments of weakness and you wanted to skip it all? (or
- exchange your machine to an Amiga for example?)
-
- Klocek: Nope :)
-
- Grey: Ok, let's jump to the less controversial topic =) ATARI SCENE! When a
- 1st demo You have ever seen hit Your screen? What was Your 1st
- impressions? "hey... what da hell iz that?!" or "what iz that and...
- what for?!" :)
-
- Klocek: I remember :))) It was ARCTUS DEMO (pic, scroll & music) on XL. I was
- intrigued, I figured out it was some kind of a program showing the
- abilities of Atari XL/XE, but I didn't know yet, that something like
- a scene existed. Then I saw REVENGE (a super demo by K.Husak,
- I think), a few demos of WFMH... and I started to go mad about the
- Atari :). When I became a ST owner the first demo that impressed me
- was ANOMALY, then BAD TASTE, BURNING ILLUSION and so, slowly, I got
- aware of the ST scene existence.
-
- Grey: In late 90s at QuaST party in Poland we were witnesses to the birth
- of "Syntax". You and Yoyo (ex-member of "Zokhatra" demo group)
- decided to join forces. Some time later we could see the first
- effects of this co-operation and Yoyo turned out to be an OUTSTANDING
- ST coder! His new effects were groundbreaking! "Syntax" releases were
- miles ahead in comparison to other active crews in that time (esp.
- from technical side). I've been so proud to see a polish ST crew
- jumping higher and higher in various scene charts. Do you know where
- Yoyo learned that good coding? It seems that after Zokhatra's death
- he didn't only fart into his seat... :)
-
- Klocek: Breif history:
-
- Zokathra (Zo, KATH, RA are the symbols of magic from the game DUNGEON
- MASTER) (Those kids ;) - E.) was a group, which was active in years
- 1993-95.
-
- Credits: Yoyo (coding) and Axel (coding, gfx).
-
- Their productions are:
-
- "Millions of Dead Chips" (Say WHAT?! - E.) (1994) - a big demo, which
- contained 6 parts,
-
- Alive (1995) - very nice dentro :),
-
- there was also Pac Man and some screens.
-
- The group fell apart because Axel went in 1995 to Germany. Durin'
- this time Yoyo bought himself PC and wrote ENGINE in WOLF3D style on
- it. Then my bro' introduced me to Yoyo (1996:). And so from 1997 to
- 1999 we worked as SYNTAX. Then we lost contact :( I released the 1st
- edition of the new mag in 2000, but under a new flag: UNDERGROUND.
- Now I'm tryin' to rebuild this group, but under a changed name:
- "Underground vs Syntax".
-
- Grey: A few years ago you lost contact with Yoyo... that was sad news esp.
- 'coz we all were expecting Your "KILLER DEMO 2000" which was supposed
- to beat many releases known from A500! Some time later you went to
- the army and this promising project was cancelled... :( Could you
- tell us if any part of this demo was already DONE? Is there any
- chance to see this project "resurrected" in the nearest future?
- Lately during our phone chat you said that "finding Yoyo shouldn't be
- a big problem" and that "a new demo for SillyVenture in 2k+4 is 100%
- sure if you get in touch with him"! So...? :)
-
- Klocek: Yes, Yoyo wrote the ENGINE of WOLF3D for KILLER on ST, I made a mass
- of textures and I don't know what the hell has happened with this
- project. I think that there is a big chance for this project to be
- renewed. I'm waitin' for a call from Yoyo.
-
- Keep your fingers crossed!
-
- Grey: Ok, I have to add some bitterness to our "honey-talking" =) Without
- a shadow of doubt You were ruling in the mentioned above "technical
- side". This topic would be senseless to impair! But a demo shouldn't
- contain only great "effects"! All what's surrounding it isn't less
- important. I mean especially about design which was pretty "modest"
- and *ripped* chip-zaks. I guess that all of us would like to see you
- putting a bigger focus on these things, mate! If you really manage to
- start another project then please try to think about some kind of
- scenario to it! And hey, we have lots a talented YM Rockerz (all
- rights reserved, I know Mr Lo'tek!) who will support you with
- pleasure! I am pretty sure about that! Just don't tell me that such a
- code-wizard as Yoyo can't use a different replayer... ;)
-
- Your new project with *original* chip-tunes and *design* would be a
- heavy lash on lotsa asses nowadays also from other systems!
-
- "Sometimes bubble bee can fly higher than Falcon" - that's one of
- your intro titles! I believe that it *IS* possible if you only won't
- react with anger to such sharp opinions as Moondogs' ones! His
- intention was never to break you down, trust me buddy! Listen to the
- scene veterans, you won't regret it! :)
-
- Just keep it deeply in heart and you are gonna shake up the ST world
- in da future! :)
-
- Klocek: REANIMATION ('98) was, as I remember, the best demo of it's time. The
- years 1995-98 were totally disastrous on ST! Textured 3D was only in
- sphere on dreams, and here we had 150 textured walls + Module on STE!
- We created a demo in a *crazy timescale* just to finish it before
- INTERJAM 1998. That's why DESIGN was a crap but that was because of a
- lack of time! Moondog probably didn't take this under consideration,
- when he was writing a review of our demo in UCM. We bit his ass with
- a nice intro demo: "Sometimes bubble bee can fly higher than
- Falcon :)", where our DESIGN and GRAFICS were completed. About the
- music: Yoyo and I were always sentimental about stuff like Wings of
- Death. When we release sth new, I promise that we'll hire the best
- musician on ST scene.
-
- Grey: And now take a *deeper* look at your disk-mag, bro! It's great to see
- someone else to support the disk-mag world! Resurrection of "UvsS" is
- surely a good news for everyone! We need competition! :) I am so
- happy that I could help you out somehow... but some things are still
- a pain for my eyes and ears! Gfx looks nice, no bigger changes
- needed! The shell even if it isn't "state of the art" is quite
- functional. But Klocek, take a look at amount of articles... isn't it
- too SMALL? Very few articles we could read in a few mins... And again
- we are listenin' to *ripped* tunes... From my side I promise to help
- you out in as many ways as possible but keep a higher focus on all
- DETAILS please!
-
- Klocek: I agree, there were just a few articles, but this is my fault. Eros,
- with whom I co-wrote the mentioned mag, sent me a lot of articles.
- Unfortunatelly my SEAGATE HDD dropped dead (and I had all materials
- on it) and I lost contact with Eros, so I couldn't get those
- materials back. I've found only one article about GFA and that was
- all. I wrote myself 8 or 9 articles. Yes, I know it's not enough and
- I need to work on this part in UvsS#2. Now the person who helps me
- with this whole stuff is Egaheer: a woman :), 20 years old, nice,
- tall with blond hair, the second half (Why not the first? :) - E.) of
- UvsS. You can find her articles in the latest "UvsS" mag (also in
- English :).
-
- Grey: Have you seen any of the latest ST demos? What do you think about
- them?
-
- Klocek: YEP: FANTASIA, POSH, DARKNESS, ILLUSION, 4STER etc. Last year was
- good for the ST. The Scene has shown once again that ATARI ST/STE is
- still alive and that it keeps fine. The demos mentioned above are
- really close to being perfect.
-
- Grey: And what do you think about ST scene in general? Is there any chance
- we will survive another long year amongst this f*ckin' mainstream?
-
- Klocek: I think that the people support will make ST outlast the PC and even
- the next thing to follow. The Atari Firm still exists you know :).
- The Fuji mountain logo is promoted even in such superproductions like
- Matrix! I'm not only talking about ENTER THE MATRIX, you know. The
- Atari has always been changing owners, even the famous WARNER BROS
- was one of them ('83). So I don't want to hear that it's not the same
- as under the Tramiel family's leadership (Bubble Bees :). The ST
- series, even if it isn't produced anymore, is still present. Atari
- produced hundreds of thousands of them. The scenes goal is to focus
- other peoples attention towards ST. Although it is old, it still has
- a large number of followers and supporters. ST emulators are a good
- example of our might - maybe even someone will want to have the
- original :)
-
- Grey: Yeah...! It's over now, so hold your head up! :) Make use of the next
- few lines to greet someone, ask for support... whatever you want! :)
-
- Klocek: greetings:
-
- Egaheer - I LUV U VERY MUCH (I know, especially for
- translating this stuff :) - E.)
- Yoyo - Hope to hear you soon...
- Grey - for the articles to my diskmag and scene work
- Eros - for work, that you've put in "UvsS #1"
- Paskud - for the perfect IDE DRIVER
- Van Eijk - for all those scene parties
-
- CREAM, DUNE, CHECKPOINT, DHS, SECTOR 1, OXYGENE, COBRA, MYSTIC BYTES,
- TSCC, ECHO TEAM, SHADOWS
-
- Grey: Thanx for all your answers, mate! And see ya soon!
-
- Klocek: I hope that we'll meet in spring, in Gdansk :) Greets.
