- rather unknown to the ST/Falcon community
- introducing an 8-bit Atari coder from Poland
- contributing to various top scene-releases done under "AIDS" label
-
- a wellknown taster of really cheap wines
-
- madly tormented by Grey / Mystic Bytes
- ----------------------------------------------------------------- -- - --- ----
-
-
- Grey: G'day lewiS!
-
- lewiS: Elo... I am very glad to talk with you.
-
- Grey: Let's start with the usual stuff - what's your real name, how old or
- young are you, what are ya doing aside from computing etc. :)
-
- lewiS: Hmm, is it necessary? I don't like this official stuff. :) Just
- lewiS/AiDS. It should be enough... :P
-
- Grey: How did your adventure with fuji machines begin ? Was it a gift or
- a considered purchase ?
-
- lewiS: It was about 10 years ago. I was collecting money for the computer.
- I managed to collect one million zlotych. :) For now it should be
- about $25. I didn't know what computer I want to buy. At the last
- minute I decided to become a user of Atari 130XE, but I couldn't
- find this machine on the Warsaw Computer Stock. So I started to
- think about C64 which cost 1 250 000 zlotych. But again - I didn't
- have enough money... Finally I bought Atari 800XL without any tape
- recorder or disk drive. I had only two cartridges and one joystick.
- After one week I bought XC12 tape recorder.
-
- Grey: What was the 1st demo you ever saw and what were your impressions?
-
- lewiS: I think it was The Top #2 by WFMH. But this demo didn't impress me
- too much. First two demos which did it were: "Sweet Illusions" by
- Shadows and "Bitter Reality" by Slight. After I saw it I really
- wanted to learn asm to do something like that by... myself :)
-
- Grey: When did you join 'AIDS' group and why? What was your function?
-
- lewiS: It was by accident during the time when I was a member of Masters of
- Electric City (MEC). Mateoos, who was a main organizer of AiDS
- suggested me to code a small info about founding a new group.
- I agreed to do it.. and (surprisingly) Mateoos informed me that I am
- in AiDS now. No chance to object. :)
-
- Grey: "AIDS".. hum... Who got this weird idea to name your band like that?
- and Geesus... WHY?! :)
-
- lewiS: In fact it isn't taken from this horrible illness. It is a shortcut
- of (in polish) "Amerikanskij Imperialitycznyj Dupnyj Syf". This name
- was created by Mateoos of course. I suppose it could have also been
- an idea of Tarâ„¢an, who was an AiDS founder too.
-
- Grey: Could you throw us the names of all scene-prods released under the
- 'AIDS' label with short description of each of them? (date of
- release, config machine needed etc.)
-
- lewiS: Uff, it was too many prods. I don't remember everything. I think the
- most important are "Impossible but Real" and "Khai-et". Both were
- released in 1999. Take a look for "Base 33" (1998 IIRC), maybe
- "Trial" (one and only my demo in co-operate with New Generation).
- All these demos should work on standard Atari with 128KB of RAM
- (130XE). Stereo Pokey is recommended. :)
-
- Grey: Wha do You think about the 8-bit Atari scene nowadays? It seems to
- be quite silent judging by the amount of the scene-releases lately,
- don't ya think?
-
- lewiS: 8-bit Atari scene is silent in productions atm, but there is a big
- friendship between ppl. You can see a good demo from time to time
- ("Numen" and "Ergo Bibamus" for example). Now we still awaiting for
- New Generation's demo which was announced 2 years back. :)
-
- I think we are maybe too old to make so many demos like few years
- ago. For me people are most important.
-
- Grey: "AIDS" also froze their scene-activities for a long time... Being
- at the latest QuaST party I've heard a rumour that you decided to
- get "back on track", is it true? What do you plan to release in the
- near future?
-
- lewiS: It was MacGyver's decision to come back. He told us that he wants to
- finish some old projects. I think it should be a tracker, maybe DOS.
- On 8-bit Atari all utils must be coded by scene people. I think DOS
- with HDD support and comfort command processor has been a much
- awaited util for years.
-
- Grey: Did You sell your ST or is it hidden somewhere awaiting better
- times? Any plans concerning this machine?
-
- lewiS: ST had very short life at my home. I think TOS was too slow. I had
- a TT030 too, but it can't run the things I love so much: demos.
-
- Grey: Did you ever have the felling that ST was madly IGNORED by the 8-bit
- Atari community? Most of sceners moved to Amiga or PeeZee toys still
- calling themself "die-hard atarians"... wasn't it a bit weird? :/
-
- lewiS: The ST was on the polish market for a too short period of time.
- Additionally it had less games. I think Amiga in Poland was the
- computer of dreams. PC suxx! I don't want to use PC, but it is the
- only computer which lets me earn money... I think the 8-bit Atari
- community moved to Amiga or PC because of better games and demos.
-
- Grey: It looks like only the Falcon was able to shake up this community
- and some famous sceners moved to that machine (e.g. Our 5OFT,
- Shadows, Cobra, Pandemonium, Excellent team...). And now also you've
- decided to lay your hands on that bird! My best congrats mate!
- Welcome to the Falcon scene!
-
- lewiS: Thanks, but I don't think I can call myself a Falcon scener yet.
- At the moment I want to explore this machine, look at some demos,
- play with OS. Maybe I'll try to do something on it in the future.
-
- Grey: Hmm... I know it's too soon to throw you such a question but...
- Eh... I can't skip it anyway! Can we expect any scene releases for
- the Falcon in the future? :)))
-
- lewiS: As I wrote above. Maybe...
-
- Grey: Let's finish this chat with an un-scenish accent, mate! You seem to
- be a real gourmet of cheap wines... :) Aren't you afraid to see your
- nose getting violet and swelling? ;))
-
- lewiS: I drink cheap wines only on a party. It is very good way to get some
- incredible feelings paying not so much. I love drinking them with my
- friend Dely. So I don't think my nose will go violet and swell! -
- maybe if I decide to drink cheap wines everyday... :)
-
- Grey: Ok, believe it or not but we reached the end of this torment! Thanx
- a lot for all your answers! Feel free to use the lines below to
- greet anyone, ask for help... whatever!
-
- lewiS: I want to greet all Atari users, sceners and fans. Stay on the
- Atari. These incredible compz are the best in the world!
-
- Atari rules 4ever!
