  3. Welcome to Walnut Creek CDROM's Music Workshop Volume II CDROM!  
  4.  
  5. This disc contains 600 megabytes of Microsoft Windows, and Windows 95 
  6. music related software from the Internet and beyond!
  7.  
  8. ===========================================================================
  9.  
  10. Here is a list of some important files and directories:
  11.  
  12. docs\           Directory of documentation files concerning this disc and 
  13.                 catalogs in several languages.
  14. extras\         Directory of miscellaneous files. Use File Manager to access
  15.                 them.  Many great files that didn't make it in time to get
  16.                 on the interface.  Use UNZIP found in UTILS directory to unzip
  17.         them.  For the fearless, there's a wealth of material here!
  18. librars\        Directory of libraries like VBRUN300, 200, 100, etc.
  19. musicws\       Directory where all programs that Music Workshop
  20.                 accesses will be found.  
  21. setup\        Directory of regular setup files.
  22. setup2\        Directory of optional minimal hard drive space setup.  Also
  23.         includes Music Workshop program and DLLs for Windows95 no-HD
  24.              space running.
  25. utils\          Directory of unzip.exe.

  29. To install this CDROM into your Windows 3.X setup:
  30.  
  31. 1)  Start up Windows.
  32.  
  33. 2a) From the Program Manager, choose the RUN option under the FILE
  34.     Menu, then enter "D:\setup.exe" at the run option bar.  (Substitute
  35.     your CDROM drive letter for "D" if it is different.)
  36.  
  37.     or
  38.     
  39. 2b) From the File Manager, click on the icon for your CDROM drive near
  40.     the top of the window, then double click the "setup.exe" file.
  41.  
  42. 3)  The "setup.exe" program opens the "Music Workshop Vol.2 Installation Selector".
  43.  
  44. Choose "Minimum hard disk space installation" to install only program group and
  45. icons.  (Icons access programs on CD-ROM)
  46.  
  47. Choose "Maximum hard disk space installation" for faster performance. 
  48. Same as above plus installs programs and associated files. (reqs. about 4 megs.)

  52. To run this CDROM in Windows 95 without setting it up:
  53.  
  54. 1)  Start up Windows 95.
  55.  
  56. 2)  Insert the Music Workshop Vol. 2 CDROM.
  57.      
  58.     --Wait a few seconds while it loads the Splash Screen--
  59.  
  60. 3)  When the Splash Screen pops up, choose "run" to start the program.
  61.     (Requires no hard disk space.)

  65. To install this CDROM into your Windows 95 setup:
  66.  
  67. 1)  Start up Windows 95.
  68.  
  69. 2)  Double-click "My Computer" icon.
  70.  
  71. 3a) Right-Click on the Music Workshop icon.  Go down to "Setup".
  72.  
  73.     or
  74.     
  75. 3b) Click the "START" button.  Type in "d:\setup.exe"  (Substitute
  76.     your CDROM drive letter for "D" if it is different.)

  87. Some important notes:
  88.  
  89. Many of the programs on this CDROM require that you have a sound card
  90. and/or MIDI capabilities.  If you don't, these programs will either
  91. give you an error message stating that, or simply not run.
  92.  
  93.     - Make sure your Sound Card is installed correctly.
  94.     - Make sure you have your drivers installed correctly (like the
  95.       [MCI] CD Audio if you intend to use some of the players).

  99. To install the [MCI] CD Audio driver: (Windows 3.x)
  100.  
  101.    1) open "Main" program group.
  102.    2) double-click "Control Panel".
  103.    3) double-click "Drivers".
  104.    4) If it's not in the list of "Installed Drivers" then click "Add".
  105.    5) Scroll to the driver you want to install (in this case [MCI] CD
  106.       Audio.)
  107.    6) Push "OK".
  108.    7) You will probably be asked if you want to Restart Windows.  You
  109.       will need to do so at some time for the driver to take effect.

  113. If you are installing a driver that is not currently on your system:
  114.  
  115.    1) open "Main" program group.
  116.    2) double-click "Control Panel".
  117.    3) double-click "Drivers".
  118.    4) If it's not in the list of "Installed Drivers" then click "Add".
  119.    5) "Select Unlisted or Updated driver."
  120.    6) Either enter the location and name of the driver or use "Browse"
  121.       to find it.

  125. Troubleshooting:
  126.  
  127. If a program doesn't run, try the following;
  128.  
  129. 1: If a file has a Setup option, click it to setup the program.  This
  130.    installs fonts, dlls, etc. which insures proper operation.
  131.  
  132. 2: Try running the program from the File Manager.  If a program is
  133.    very large, you may not have enough memory to run it from within
  134.    Music Workshop.  You may have to quit Music Workshop, then go into
  135.    File Manager or Explorer for Windows 95 if you are very low on memory.

  139. To install a program you copied onto your hard drive from the CDROM
  140. so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do one of
  141. two things: 
  142.  
  143. Windows 3.x
  144. 1)  First select Windows Setup in the "Main" Group. 
  145.     Select Options in the menu bar.  
  146.     Select "Set Up Applications."
  147.     Select "Ask You to Specify An Application."
  148.     Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install.
  149.  
  150.     Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application
  151.     Group and set up the program to run from the icon.
  152.  
  153.     For example, to make an permanent icon for CDaudio after copying
  154.     it to your local hard drive, type:
  155.  
  156.         c:\musicws\players\cdaudio\cdaudio.exe
  157.  
  158.     into the "Specify An Application" box.
  159.  
  160. 2)  Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which
  161.     usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install.
  162.  
  163.     Drag that program icon to your Applications program group inside
  164.     your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button.  The icon 
  165.     will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be
  166.     run from that icon.

  170. Some applications may require vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, or
  171. vbrun300.dll.  These files are provided in the \librars\ directory of
  172. the CDROM.

  178. This disk contains many shareware programs and images. Shareware can
  179. be considered to be a sort of try before you buy system where you are
  180. expected to pay the program author a registration fee if you find the
  181. program or image useful.  You will find details of registration
  182. included in the document/text files provided with each program.
