ä:ïDistinguish between action and linking verbs in the
sentences in the Example.
âS:
êë After Judy wiped the vase, she thought about Henry's
#êë mother.ï╖Wiped╗ and╖ thought╗ are action verbs.
#êë I am sure that you felt uneasy. ╖ Am╗ and╖ felt╗ are
êë linking verbs.
éS
ëAll verbs indicate either action or a state of being.ïAction
verbs refer to what we can specifically perceive through our five
senses--sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste--(physical) or through our
mind (non-physical).
Linking verbs, on the other hand, address the fact that someone or some-
#thing exists.ïVery few verbs in our language are linking verbs:╖ am, ╗
#╖is, are, was, were, be, being, been╗ are always linking. ╖ Appear, be-╗
#╖come, feel, grow, look, remain, seem, smell, sound, stay,╗ and╖ taste╗
can be linking verbs in certain situations to be discussed later.

#way to determine if a verb other than a verb of being (╖am, is, was╗,
#╖were, be, being, been╗) is a linking verb is to substitute the words ╖╗
#╖is╗ or ╖are╗ for the verb in question.ïIf ╖is╗ or ╖are╗ make sense in
#that context, then the verb is a linking verb.ïBecause ╖seems╗ can be

#╖hid╗ are both actions verbs.
