D'menu is the ULTIMATE time saver for Windows 3.x users. No more need to minimize your current window, pull up the Program Manager, open another program group, and then finally select the program you needed two minutes ago! Now all of your most used programs can be just ONE MOUSE CLICK AWAY!!!
D'menu is a fully customizable menu that you can have pop up from within any application that you are currently running simply by clicking the right mouse button while the cursor is within a window's title bar. You can also click the right mouse button on the desktop (the screen background or wallpaper) to achieve the same results. Once the menu is displayed just make your desired selection and you're off and running. No more minimizing and searching!
Getting Started
Copy the files DMENU.EXE and MENUHOOK.DLL into your Window directory and then add D'menu to one of your existing groups. I would suggest either adding it to your STARTUP group, or modifying your WIN.INI file to read RUN=DMENU.EXE. If you added dmenu to a group just double click on its icon to start the program. If you added it to your WIN.INI file you will need to restart Windows for D'menu to become active.
When you first start D'menu there will be only one item in the menu, ***D'menu***. Selecting this option brings up another popup menu from which you can customize D'menu. Selecting Setup... will bring up the customization dialog box. Select Add and another dialog box will appear prompting your for the menu text, the file to associate with the menu text, the working directory, and the display options for the selection. The menu text and the Command line are required; the working directory is not. The default display option is maximized. Let's do this one together so you can see just how easy it is.
With D'menu running click the right mouse button while the cursor is on either the desktop or any window's title bar. The menu pops up displaying ***D'menu*** as the only option. Select ***D'menu*** to bring up the second popup menu. Select Setup... from this menu. The Setup dialog box appears. Select the Add button. The Add dialog box appears. In the Menu text edit field type in "Control Panel" (you don't need the quotes). Tab to the command line field and enter "control.exe". No working directory is required. Select "Default" in the Show Initially group box. Click on OK. Click on Close in the Setup Dialog. Now click the right mouse button on the desktop or in a title bar and the Control Panel selection now appears in the menu as well. Choose Control Panel from the menu and it will run immediately. How many times could you have used this feature before? If you're like me it has been too many times to count!
You can add up to a total of 35 entries to the menu. This includes both menu options and separator bars. Highlight an item in the Setup dialog and choose the delete button to remove it from the menu. Double click on an item in the Setup dialog or highlight it and choose the Edit button to modify its settings. Choosing the Separator button will add a separator bar to your menu at the current position. Highlight an item and choose the Up or Down buttons to rearrange the order of menu items.
That's about all there is to it in a nutshell. What could be simpler or more efficient?
