  5. Please take the time to review this file before installing and
  6. running WorldTime 2.1.

  9. INTRODUCTION
  10. ------------
  11. WorldTime 2.1 is an easy to use international clock utility
  12. for the Microsoft Windows operating environment.  WorldTime
  13. can display six different international locations and their
  14. current local times -- selected from a database of over 170
  15. metropolitan and geographic locations worldwide.

  18. NOTES FOR USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS
  19. ------------------------------------
  20. If you are familiar with previous releases of WorldTime,
  21. please take note of the following new features implemented in
  22. version 2.1:
  23.  
  24. WTIME21.INI Location
  25. --------------------
  26. Unlike previous releases, WorldTime 2.1 now creates and
  27. maintains its initialization file (WTIME21.INI) in the
  28. default Windows directory.  This change was implemented to
  29. make the program easier to use on local area network (LAN)
  30. systems.  Previous releases kept the .INI file in the
  31. WorldTime directory.
  32.  
  33. For the benefit of user's who prefer keeping the WorldTime
  34. .INI file in the WorldTime default directory, the program
  35. can be run with the Private Mode command line switch (/P).
  36. This forces the program to create and access its
  37. initialization file in the WorldTime default directory
  38. (i.e., wherever the WTIME21.EXE file is located), and also
  39. allows multiple copies of WorldTime (stored in separate
  40. directories) to be run with their own configuration
  41. settings.

  43. Configuration Dialog
  44. --------------------
  45. All configuration settings are now managed from within a
  46. Configuration dialog, accessible via the menu bar
  47. "Options/Configuration..." command.
  48.  
  49. Point-and-Shoot Mouse Support
  50. -----------------------------
  51. The international location selection dialogs can now be
  52. opened by placing the mouse pointer over the selected location
  53. display and double-clicking the left mouse button.  This
  54. feature duplicates the functions of the six buttonbar
  55. controls (which can now be disabled and removed from the
  56. program window -- see "Show/Hide ButtonBar").
  57.  
  58. Reduced Memory Overhead
  59. -----------------------
  60. Under normal operation, WorldTime 2.1 requires less installed
  61. memory than version 2.0.
  62.  
  63. Larger International Location Database
  64. --------------------------------------
  65. The number of standard locations accessible from WorldTime's
  66. International Location Selection dialog boxes has been
  67. increased, and includes generic time zone selections
  68. representing all standard time zones (labeled according to
  69. hours plus or minus Greenwich Mean Time).  This facility,
  70. coupled with the Custom Location Name feature, enables
  71. virtually any location to be entered and displayed in the
  72. WorldTime program window.

  74. Custom Location Names / Half-Hour Time Support
  75. ----------------------------------------------
  76. WorldTime 2.1 now allows the configuration and selection of
  77. custom locations based on WorldTime's default or standard time
  78. (STD) location listings.  Any custom location can also be
  79. configured as a "half-hour" time zone.

  81. Show/Hide ButtonBar
  82. -------------------
  83. The buttonbar controls can now be disabled and removed from
  84. the program window, useful if your international location
  85. fields are set and you wish to decrease the size of
  86. WorldTime's program window.  This toggle option is accessible
  87. via the menu bar "Options/Show/Hide ButtonBar" command.

  89. Iconic Time Display
  90. -------------------
  91. WorldTime can now display the current local time even when the
  92. program window is reduced to an icon.  This option is
  93. accessible from the Configuration dialog box.

  95. Window/Icon Topmost Display
  96. ---------------------------
  97. WorldTime can now keep its program window or icon "topmost"
  98. among any other active applications on the Windows desktop.
  99. This option is accessible from the Configuration dialog box.

  101. 12-Hour/24-Hour Time Displays
  102. -----------------------------
  103. WorldTime can now be display all times in 12-hour or 24-hour
  104. format.  The user's selection of either option is then
  105. reflected not only in the main program window, but in the
  106. iconized time display and in the Set System Time dialog box.

  108. Adjustable Text Display Color
  109. -----------------------------
  110. The on-screen color of each of the six international location,
  111. day of week, and time fields can be selected from the
  112. International Location Selection dialog box (within the "Text
  113. Display Color" control group).

  116. PROGRAM FILES
  117. -------------
  118. The WorldTime 2.1 package consists of 5 files:
  119.  
  120.     README.TXT
  121.     NETWORK.TXT
  122.     WTIME21.EXE
  123.     WTIME21.HLP
  124.     WTIME21.TXT

  126. A sixth file, WTIME21.INI, is automatically created when the
  127. program is first run, and is located in the default Windows
  128. directory (e.g., C:\WINDOWS or C:\WIN).  This file contains
  129. all WorldTime configuration information.

  132. READ ALL ABOUT IT
  133. -----------------
  134. Full product documentation is contained in the WTIME21.TXT
  135. file.  This is an ASCII text file which can be easily loaded
  136. and viewed with Windows Notepad, Windows Write, or any word
  137. processor or text editor that supports the ASCII text format.
  138. This file includes a program description, instructions, and
  139. technical notes.
  140.  
  141. Specific information regarding the use of WorldTime 2.1 in a
  142. network environment is contained in the ASCII text file,
  143. NETWORK.TXT.  It is STRONGLY recommended that this file is
  144. read before installing WorldTime 2.1 on a local area network.
  145.  
  146. Hypertext program documentation is supplied in the WTIME21.HLP
  147. file.  This is a Windows Help System format file, which can be
  148. loaded and viewed with Windows Help -- and is directly
  149. accessed from within WorldTime via the menu bar
  150. "Help/Contents..." command.

  152. Both of these files contain all the information you need to
  153. install and run this program.  The Windows Help System
  154. includes the provision for easily printing any topic or topics
  155. from the WTIME21.HLP file.  This handy feature can be used to
  156. turn your "manual on disk" into hard copy for future
  157. reference.

  160. QUICK & DIRTY START-UP
  161. ----------------------
  162. We recommend that you make a backup copy of the master program
  163. disk(s) before installing or running WorldTime.  We also
  164. recommend that this program be installed to, and run from, a
  165. hard disk.
  166.  
  167. To get WorldTime loaded and running with a minimum of fuss,
  168. simply create a new directory or subdirectory on your hard
  169. disk (e.g., C:\WTIME21) and copy the entire contents of your
  170. master disk to that new directory.
  171.  
  172. WorldTime 2.1 does not access or require any files from
  173. previous versions.  As a result, you may safely delete all
  174. installed files from any previous version of WorldTime prior
  175. to installing WorldTime 2.1
  176.  
  177. From Microsoft Windows, you can run this program from File
  178. Manager by "double-clicking" the WTIME21.EXE file entry or by
  179. selecting the WTIME21.EXE file entry and issuing the menu bar
  180. "File/Run" command.
  181.  
  182. Of course, WorldTime's icon can be easily installed into a new
  183. or existing Program Manager group for quick, one-step running.

  185. Once running, all configuration controls are accessed from the
  186. WorldTime menu bar and/or buttonbar controls.  A complete
  187. summary of all commands is provided in the WTIME21.TXT file
  188. and within the WorldTime help system.

  193. Warranty information regarding this product is provided in the
  194. ASCII text file, WTIME21.TXT and in the Windows Help file
  195. WTIME21.HLP.

  198. PRODUCT REGISTRATION
  199. --------------------
  200. WorldTime for Windows (version 2.1) is shareware, not freeware.
  201.  
  202. The single-user registration fee for this product is $16.00
  203. (U.S.).  Registrations ordered from outside the continental
  204. United States or Canada should include an additional $2.00 for
  205. shipping and handling.
  206.  
  207. Multiple-user site licenses are available for this product.
  208. Site license registrations are a cost-effective way of
  209. registering several end-users for a substantially lower
  210. per-copy cost than individual registrations.
  211.  
  212. Complete registration information, including printable
  213. registration forms, is provided in the WTIME21.HLP file
  214. shipped with the shareware version of WorldTime.  The
  215. WTIME21.HLP file is accessed via the Windows Help System
  216. -- menu bar command "Help/Contents."  Registration information
  217. is also provided in the ASCII text file, WTIME21.TXT.
