Accelerator Cards
Resident Evil supports the following 3D accelerator cards:
Matrox Mystique Ö 4MB
Diamond Monster 3DÖ
Orchid Righteous 3D
Creative 3D Blaster Ö
Canopus Total 3D
Intense 3D 100 by Intergraph
Important Note:
The 3D card must have a minimum of 4MB RAM on board.
Many 3D accelerator cards share the same chipset and are therefore compatible, as a result itÆs
highly possible that Resident Evil could work on other cards not stated above.
If when using either a 3Dfx based card or the Matrox Mystique Ö card you discover Resident
Evil doesnÆt function properly it may be due to the drivers currently installed on your machine.
We have included the versions used during the development of Resident Evil in a directory on
the game CD called æDriversÆ.
The latest versions of the drivers for all the cards are available at the following WWW sitesà
Matrox Mystique Ö 4MB
The Matrox Mystique drivers on this CD were the latest available drivers at the time of the
release of Resident Evil. They have been tested with Resident Evil and are known to work.
However, more recent drivers may have become available since that time. The latest Matrox
Mystique drivers are available at the Matrox web site at WWW.MATROX.COM.

DirectX
Resident Evil has been designed to run with DirectX3a and the drivers located on the disks have
been tested with this version of DirectX. Resident Evil will run if you have DirectX 5 or later but
you may find that you need to install newer versions of the 3D card drivers. Failing to do so
could result in Resident Evil not recognising your 3D card.
Important
If you already have DirectX 5 or later installed on your machine we recommend that you
don't install DirectX 3a. Resident Evil has been designed to run with Direct X3 but will
also work without error using Direct X5. However, when using DirectX 5 should you find
that Resident Evil doesn't correctly recognise your card then you must update the
drivers for your 3D card.
If you are using video card drivers that are not DirectX certified Resident Evil may
prompt the user to overwrite the drivers. If this is done the game may experience a
corrupted video display. This can be quickly remedied by restoring the original video
drivers.
This is most easily done by using the Add/Remove programs in the control panel. Simply
select DirectX in Add/Remove programs and click on the Add/Remove button. This will
bring the you to a screen that shows what drivers are certified and gives two button
choices that will allow you to restore the original video and/or audio drivers.
Card Setup
ItÆs possible to force the Resident Evil to use a particular card, this maybe useful if the game fails
to recognise your 3D card or you have two 3D cards installed and you wish to select which one
to use. This is done by launching the game by using one of the following commandsà
ResidentEvil.exe /monster launch Diamond Monster 3D TM
ResidentEvil.exe /mystique launch Matrox Mystique 4MB TM
ResidentEvil.exe /total launch Canopus TOTAL 3D
ResidentEvil.exe /blaster launch Creative 3D Blaster TM
ResidentEvil.exe /righteous launch Orchid Righteous
ResidentEvil.exe /intense launch Intergraph Intense
ResidentEvil.exe /? show help
To do this follow these stepsà
1. Right click on the æStart ButtonÆ and select æExploreÆ.
2. Double left click on æProgramsÆ.
3. Double left click on æCapcomÆ.
4. Double left click on æResident EvilÆ.
5. Right click on Resident Evil and select æPropertiesÆ.
6. When the properties window appears, select the æShortcutÆ tab at the top.
7. Add one of the above commands to the æTargetÆ box (ensure you keep the whole directory
path line in tact). If you accidentally erase the whole line then click æCancelÆ and repeat from
step 5.
8. Click æApplyÆ and then æOKÆ.
Please note the location of the Resident Evil file is only applicable if you have chosen to install
the game in the default path offered. If you have selected to install the game elsewhere then you
will need to adjust points 3 and 4 accordingly.
Gamma Control
Resident Evil doesn't have a screen adjustment facility. If you therefore need to adjust the
brightness you should use the gamma control option within the card setup program.
Please note
ItÆs possible, however unlikely in most Windows games that APM (advanced power
management) may become confused and think youÆre no longer using the your machine. The
result is the monitor shutting down or other power saving features kicking in.
Please quit as many other programs and functions as possible before you load the game.
Keyboard Problems
Some keyboards are unable to register multiple key inputs simultaneously so itÆs possible that
some character actions in Resident Evil may seem difficult to perform. It is therefore
recommended that a joypad is used.
