Unofficially nicknamed "Platypus" by its crews (due to its wide, flat nose), the Su-34 is a member of the Su-27 family. Major design modifications include: a redesigned forward fuselage to accommodate side-by-side seating for the pilot and copilot, a galley and toilet behind the cockpit, canards, and an extended tailboom housing a rearward-facing radar. The Su-34 also carries specially modified, rearward-firing AA-11 missiles to be used in self defense.%n
