Why is password recovery software needed?
Scenario I
Your department has elected to use the password security feature
in WordPerfect, Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 or Symphony. As
very bad luck would have it, a password has been forgotten by the
person entrusted with it. The files are essential, sensitive,
and, now quite secure from everyone including you and your firm.
Scenario II
The highly qualified, reliable and loyal colleague who has been
handling file security for the past six years has become testy,
embroiled in a mid-management salary dispute. It has reached
volatile proportions. The person has been asked to resign with
compensation. The compensation doesn't pacify the individual.
So, the disgruntled employee holds the passwords to the firms
most sensitive files to encourage renegotiation of severance pay.
Scenario III
Your office computer system is networked. You would like
additional security for sensitive information like personnel
evaluations and payroll. You feel the security features built
into your network system are inadequate for this purpose. You
would like to use WordPefect's password feature, but are worried
about losing information if the password is forgotten.
There is a need for computer security. Software developers have
incorporated security functions for obvious reasons. It is also
true that passwords are lost by legitimate users for various
reasons. Indeed, it should be anticipated. And, unfortunately,
files are also lost for reasons such as disgruntled employees.
Because functioning businesses must rely on immediate computer
access, it is logical to have an immediate solution to facilitate
recovery and enhance security.
