  13. DESCRIPTION:
  14. FavOrg scans the Web sites in your Favorites list for favicons--custom icons provided by the Web site. The icons are displayed on the Favorites bar, the Favorites menu, and the Address bar. Custom icons make the Favorites list easier to scan, letting you locate a given shortcut faster. Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5; FavOrg brings this functionality to IE4 as well. Favicons are usually lost when you delete your Temporary Internet Files, but FavOrg preserves them. The program also lets you associate any icon you choose with a given shortcut, even if no favicon is provided. Since FavOrg must check the validity of an Internet shortcut before attempting to download the favicon, it automatically flags dead links as it goes through your Favorites list. If you like, it can update redirected links or reset dead links to the site's root.

  17. Changes in Version 1.2:
  18. - FIXED: Version 1.1 still sometimes crashed because of a bug in IE when processing malformed shortcuts. This was fixed with a workaround.
  19. - FIXED: Version 1.1 introduced a RASAPI32.DLL dependency. FavOrg 1.2 loads RASAPI32 dynamically only when needed. Thus users with permanent internet connections who don't have dial-up networking installed can load FavOrg without error.
  20. - FIXED: When programs such as EasyIcon are installed, FavOrg 1.1 sometimes used the wrong icon for the root item in the Favorites tree.

  23. - FIXED: FavOrg crashed with certain versions of IE and/or WININET.DLL (all 5.0 versions prior to 5.01).
  24. - FIXED: The folder specified in "Change Favicons folder" was sometimes ignored.
  25. - FIXED: FavOrg did not work behind a firewall that requested user authentication.
  26. - FIXED: Expanding or collapsing tree branches during a scan could cause problems.
  27. - FIXED: FavOrg displayed the wrong status icon for some HTTPS based URLs.

  40. To install FavOrg, run the supplied installation program. FavOrg can be uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. For details on program operation, refer to the program's online help file.
