  2.                                THE BRAZEN ALTAR

  4.          Also  called  the "altar of  burnt offering"  (Exodus 30:28)  and  the 
  5. "table of the LORD" (Malachi 1:7,12).                                           
  6.                                                                                 
  7.          This altar was placed in the court,  between the entrance and the tab- 
  8. ernacle.                                                                        
  9.                                                                                 
  10.          It was made  strong and light for  convenient transportation; a hollow 
  11. box of acacia wood,  five cubits square and three  cubits high (Exodus 27:1-8), 
  12. overlaid, inside and out, with sheets of copper (A.V. "brass").  At each corner 
  13. was a  "horn".  The altar had  a grate  placed halfway between  the top and the 
  14. bottom.  At each corner of the grate was a ring,  through which were passed the 
  15. copper-covered poles by which the altar was carried when moved.                 
  16.                                                                                 
  17.          Twenty years after  leaving Egypt two  hundred and fifty  censers were 
  18. flattened  out and attached  to the  sides of the altar, telling an awful story 
  19. to future generations (Numbers 16:1-40).

  21.          According to Leviticus  6:13 the fire on  this altar was never allowed 
  22. to go out.
