  1.                   OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL COOKIES

  4. 1 c. raisins
  5. 1 c. water
  6. 1-1/2 c. sugar
  7. 3/4 c. shortening
  8. 1 t. vanilla
  9. 2 eggs
  10. 2-1/2 c. wheat flour
  11.  
  12. 2 c. quick or regular oats
  13. 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  14. 1 t. baking soda
  15. 1 t. salt
  16. 1 t. cinnamon
  17. 1/2 t. baking powder
  18. 1/2 t. clovesSimmer raisins and water uncovered about 15 minutes until
  19. raisins are plump.  Drain and reserve liquid.  Add enough to
  20. reserved liquid to measure 1/2 cup.  Mix sugar, shortening,
  21. vanilla and eggs.  Mix in liquid, stir in remaining ingredients. 
  22. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake at
  23. 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.  Remove immediately from sheet. 
  24. Makes about 6-1/2 dozen cookies.
