  1.          WNOS version 4 UK Release Pack Details

  4. This pack contains the following files :-

  6.     README.WN4    -    This File
  7.     WNOS.EXE    -    The WNOS Program
  8.     HELP.EXE    -    Self Extracting Archive of Mailbox Help Files
  9.     UTILS.EXE    -    Self Extracting Archive of Utility programs
  10.     WNOS4DOC.EXE    -    Self Extracting Archive of WNOS4 Manuals etc
  11.     SETUP.EXE    -    Example Configuration Files
  12.     PCELM301.ZIP    -    The latest version of the PCElm Mail Program.

  14. The Self Extracting Archive Files
  15. =================================

  17. These files hold a compressed archive of files. When you run them as
  18. a DOS program, the files will be uncompressed and written to your
  19. disk. For example;
  20.  
  21.     C:\TCPIP\DOC > wnos4doc 
  22.  
  23. would unpack the WNOS4 documentation archive. The files always unpack
  24. to the current directory.
  25.  
  26. What's In The Archives ?
  27. ========================

  29. HELP.EXE    -  Mailbox help files. This archive should be copied to the
  30.                SPOOL/HELP directory and unpacked there.
  31.  
  32.            Please *DON'T* forget to edit the HOST.HLP file!
  33.  
  34. UTILS.EXE   -  An assortment of programs. ARPFCONV.EXE should be used to
  35.                convert WNOS2 routing files to WNOS4 format. AXPATH.EXE
  36.            lists the contents of the AX.25 autorouter save file. The
  37.            various .COM files can be used to build a DOS .BAT file as
  38.            suggested in the WNOS4 Configuration Manual.

  40. WNOS4DOC.EXE - The WNOS4 Documentation Archive. Contains;
  41.  
  42.           WNOS4MAN.TXT - The WNOS4 User Manual
  43.           WNOS4CFG.TXT - The WNOS4 Configuration Guide
  44.           WNOS4CMD.TXT - The WNOS4 Command Reference
  45.           WNOS4UPD.TXT - Quick Update to WNOS4 (for WNOS3 users)
  46.           WNOS3MAN.TXT - The User Guide for WNOS version 3
  47.           NOSMBOX.TXT  - Guide to Using the NOS Mailbox (SM0RGV)

  49.            Please note that even if you did use WNOS3, don't just read
  50.            the update document. Read everything! Print it first if need
  51.            be, all the documents are plain ASCII. The WNOS3 User Manual
  52.                contains most of the information about the basic program not
  53.            repeated in the WNOS4 manuals for brevity.

  55. SETUP.EXE    - Copies of all the files listed in the WNOS4 Configuration
  56.            Guide. Plus other files such as the UK Domain Name file.
  57.  
  58. PCELM301.ZIP - The latest version of this popular mail program. Can be
  59.                used for reading, replying to, sending and organising mail.
  60.            Please note that I do not support this program in any way,
  61.            it is merely included for those that don't have a mailer
  62.            and get fed up with the primitive NOS mailbox. You will
  63.             need the PKUNZIP program to unpack it.

  66. Where Do I Start ?
  67. ================
  68.  
  69. Please start by unpacking the archive of WNOS4 Documentation and Manuals
  70. (WNOS4DOC.EXE). Then *READ* the documentation before you start running
  71. WNOS4. The manuals will give you all the information about the directory
  72. structure and configuration files. If you are new to WNOS you will need
  73. to create the directory structure before you can do anything.  
  74.  
  75. Once you have created the directory structure, unpack HELP.EXE in the
  76. SPOOL/HELP directory and SETUP.EXE and UTILS.EXE in the WNOS4 'root'
  77. directory. The configuration files in SETUP.EXE can then be moved to
  78. their rightful places as indicated by the documentation.

  80. AND DON'T FORGET......
  81. ======================

  83. 1) Take backup copies of the Distribution Disk
  84. 2) READ ALL THE DOCUMENTS
  85. 3) Remember to edit the files to suit your tastes!
  86. 4) Comment out parts of the files that you do not need, for example
  87.    the interlink entries in the CONVERS.CFG file. 
  88. 5) Tell me of errors and omissions.
  89. 6) Watch TCPIP @ GBR on your local mailbox for details of WNOS4 updates.
