  19. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
  20. it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected
  21. to register.  Individual programs differ on details -- some request
  22. registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period.
  23. With registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using
  24. the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  26. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  27. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  28. below.  Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
  29. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there
  30. are good programs and bad ones!)  The main difference is in the method of
  31. distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to copy and
  32. distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. 
  33. For example, some authors require written permission before a commercial disk
  34. vendor may copy their Shareware.

  36. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.  You should find
  37. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
  38. Shareware.  The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  39. can try before you buy.  And because the overhead is low, prices are low
  40. also.  Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use
  41. the product, you don't pay for it.

  47. Users of NEMENU must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "NEMENU is supplied
  48. as is.  The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including,
  49. without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any
  50. purpose.  The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or
  51. consequential, which may result from the use of NEMENU."

  53. NEMENU is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user for
  54. evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not give
  55. it away altered or as part of another system.  The essence of
  56. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality
  57. software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers
  58. to  continue to develop new products.  If you find this program useful and
  59. find that you are using NEMENU and continue to use NEMENU after a reasonable
  60. trial period, you must make a registration payment of $25.00 to Just-In-Time
  61. Computing Services.  The $25.00 registration fee will license one copy for
  62. use on any one computer at any one time.

  64. Commercial users of NEMENU must register and pay for their copies of NEMENU
  65. within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.  Site-License
  66. arrangements may be made by contacting Just-In-Time Computing Services.

  72. Anyone distributing NEMENU for any kind of remuneration must first contact
  73. Just-In-Time Computing Services at the address below for authorization.  This
  74. authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the
  75. (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
  76. distributors may begin offering NEMENU immediately (However Just-In-Time
  77. Computing Services must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
  78. up-to-date with the latest version of NEMENU.).

  80. You are encouraged to pass a copy of NEMENU along to your friends for
  81. evaluation, as long as the NEMENU system is complete and unmodified.
  82. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that
  83. they can use it.  All registered users will receive upgrade information and
  84. notification of the latest version of the NEMENU system.
