  19.     Please be sure to have the required programs in their correct
  20.     version number before installing ESC. See the ESC.DOC and
  21.     ESCLIST.LST which accompanied this archive.
  22.  
  23.     MSGEDSQ 2.2b - Upgrading to ESC version 1.58
  24.     IMPORTANT: for Msged users
  25.  
  26.     Do NOT run Msgedsq version prior to 2.2b with ESC 1.58! The
  27.     configuration file which ESC builds is incompatible with earlier
  28.     versions of Msged.
  29.  
  30.     If you are upgrading ESC and you currently have a Msged.Cfg, you
  31.     should rename, move or delete it. Under unexpected circumstances
  32.     ESC may possibly use your old config file, which will make it
  33.     incorrect for MSGEDSQ 2.2b. There has been significant changes to
  34.     MSGEDSQ 2.2b that require an entirely new configuration. PLEASE
  35.     remove your old MSGED.CFG from the current directory for safety.
  36.  
  37.     MORE MEMORY REQUIRED
  38.     
  39.     Setting up:
  40.     If you are setting up and want ESC to compile the nodelist at the
  41.     conclusion of the setup, give it plenty of room 450k would be nice.
  42.     All the data and the process by which the compiler is called isn't
  43.     conservative. However, much less memory is needed if the nodelist
  44.     isn't to be compiled from the setup.
  45.  
  46.     Operating your mailer:
  47.     If you will be using the [D]elay timer for polling purposes give
  48.     yourself plenty of memory (about 450k). The system seems to hang
  49.     when the fossil initializes due to an untrapped error from that
  50.     program.
  51.     
  52.     THE ESC DIRECTORY  (FIRST TIME SETUP)
  53.     
  54.     Should be free of any configuration or control files from other
  55.     software packages. Especially remove the GOLDED.CFG, MSGED.CFG,
  56.     BINKLEY.CFG, QNODE.CFG, XLAXNODE.CTL, BINKLEY.LNG etc. etc. if
  57.     they are present on a NEW installation. Esc could possibly read
  58.     these by mistake and try to parse them as if they were originally
  59.     created by ESC. ESC does its best to determine if the file is one
  60.     of its own or not. Reading the original configs doesn't work well
  61.     because many of the examples within the original control files
  62.     have default drive paths which are not likely correct for your
  63.     system. They will be drawn into the control files which ESC
  64.     produces. Let ESC create its own control files!
  65.  
  66.     Once again: PLEASE REMOVE ANY ORIGINAL EXAMPLE CONTROL FILES from
  67.     the directory you are installing ESC into.    
  68.  
  69.     IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION.
  70.  
  71.     PLEASE don't upgrade ESC by calling it from the current MAIL.BAT.
  72.     In other words, place the files from the new ESC???.LZH in your
  73.     mailer directory and then type ESC at the dos prompt. Otherwise,
  74.     the batch file (from earlier versions) could possibly become
  75.     confused when you exit ESC and you may experience bizarre results
  76.     temporarily.
  77.  
  78.     ESC has more intelligence to determine original files from its own
  79.     and the above precautions may not be necessary but it is best
  80.     to start from a clean setup to avoid the unforeseen.
  81.  
  82.     AUTOMATIC REGISTRATION MESSAGE
  83.     
  84.     ESC creates an automatic routed netmail message upon installation.
  85.     Please allow it to be packed and sent out of your system. See the
  86.     manual for more information if you are concerned.
  87.     
  88.     IF YOU ARE SETTING UP AS A <HOST> NODE MAILER SYSTEM
  89.     
  90.     If you're setting up as a host, you may wish to remove the semicolon
  91.     which precedes the line in the binkley.cfg which reads like this.

  95.     This will allow immediate processing of mail which arrives, without
  96.     intervention.

  98.     PULL DOWN MENU / MOUSE INTERFACE
  99.  
  100.     This archive has a sister. Look for ESCCMM10.LZH for the added files
  101.     for the pull down / mousable menu system (not required). The CMMenu
  102.     system is a fully configurable dos to batch or program interface
  103.     which can be used with any application. Chris Mann has especially
  104.     adapted the menu interface for ESC but there are no restriction for
  105.     application to any standing .com, .exe or batch file.
  106.  
  107.     BINKLEY.LNG
  108.  
  109.     A customized Binkley.LNG (language) file has been included. You can
  110.     create your own if you like using the BTLNG.EXE which comes with
  111.     the Binkley 2.56 package. Be SURE to use the correct version of
  112.     english.txt  (raw language) file for this version of Binkley if
  113.     you do create your own.
  114.  
  115.     NODELISTS
  116.  
  117.     Please see the esc.doc file for more information. If you are using
  118.     Golded please see its documentation on how to create the nodelist
  119.     for it, as it must have one other than the one used by Binkley.

  121.     CONCLUSION

  123.     UNREAD NETMAIL PENDING
  124.  
  125.     If you are operating Binkley in the unattended mode you may see
  126.     this message. Binkley doesn't look in a squish netmail area and
  127.     this isn't where Binkley is seeing it. ESC optionally creates a
  128.     netmail message in a subdirectory under your mailer directory
  129.     called \NETMAIL. It is an automatic registration message
  130.     (see the docs) which you can delete at your leisure. Please allow
  131.     it to be sent before you do.
