  8.     Several months ago, I took a look at WinFax Pro 2.0. Of all the fax
  9.     software I reviewed, it was the best one. I awarded it an Editor's
  10.     Choice Award for 1992. Unless something better comes along, it looks
  11.     this latest version will win for 1993. WinFax Pro has been greatly
  12.     improved. It is simplier to use, is smoother, and has a few new
  13.     features that were not in the previous releases.

  15.     The program comes with dual media. It requires 7MB for a full
  16.     installation. This includes cover sheets, OCR software and program
  17.     files. Yes, OCR! WinFax Pro now can scan a document that you wish to
  18.     send.

  20.     There is support for over 275 faxboards, and modems using Class 1,
  21.     Class 2, CAS and SendFax specifications. It also comes with several
  22.     macros that allow you to install WinFax directly into your word
  23.     processor or spreadsheet: Word, Ami Pro, Excel, etc. No longer do
  24.     you have to select WinFax as your default printer. Running the macro
  25.     places an item in the drop down menu. After you create your
  26.     document, you simply click on WinFax Pro, and it makes the changes,
  27.     gets the letter, asks where you want it sent, and proceeds
  28.     accordingly. I have used the option from Word many times, and have
  29.     been extremely pleased with the way the program handles. You can
  30.     also add it as a button on the toolbar that further simplifies its
  31.     access.

  33.     I did mention cover sheets above. WinFax Pro comes with 101 fax
  34.     cover sheets. Included is a book that shows you pictures of all of
  35.     them. You can edit these to include your information. You can even
  36.     use PerForm Pro as a cover sheet option. Of course, you can always
  37.     use ones created with other programs.

  39.     As usual, WinFax Pro works in the background, so you can continue
  40.     with your other work. There is context-sensitive help throughout the
  41.     program, and indexed on-line help.

  43.     WinFax comes with a complete set of fax tools to covert you incoming
  44.     faxes for editing in your word processor. Add comments and
  45.     highlights right on your fax. You can broadcast faxes to groups of
  46.     people, and send them when you want using the options in WinFax Pro.
  47.     Compress and file faxes away for easy reference, and use less disk
  48.     space. Have faxes deleted after they are sent to conserve disk
  49.     space. View incoming faxes as they arrive with Real-Time Viewer, and
  50.     receive audible (.WAV) notification of faxes.

  52.     WinFax Pro has a phonebook, which has also been improved.
  53.     Drag-and-drop makes it easy to create groups with powerful phonebook
  54.     features You can also use dBASE and ASCII files as phonebooks. In
  55.     addtion you can import data CAS, as well as previous versions of
  56.     WInFax or DOSFax Pro. You can even use PackRat as a WinFax Pro
  57.     phonebook via DDE. WinFax supports multiple phonebooks. It will also
  58.     keep a detailed log of all faxes you send and receive.

  60.     As in previous versions, you can combine multiple Windows documents
  61.     into a single outgoing fax - letter from your word processor,
  62.     numbers from your spreadsheet, charts or drawings from you drawing
  63.     program, names from your database - and you choose the order in
  64.     which to send them. WinFax Pro has a laser quality resolution of
  65.     200x200dpi, which ensures your faxes are crisp and easy to read.

  67.     Using WinFax Pro's AnyFax Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
  68.     technology you can convert your fax for editing in your word
  69.     processor or spreadsheet. AnyFax can even convert your incoming
  70.     faxes automatically upon receipt so they're immediately ready for
  71.     you to edit. WinFax Pro supports the TWAIN specification, which has
  72.     become the industry standard for direct image acquisition.

  75.     and supports all font managers under Windows including Adobe Type
  76.     Manager (ATM), TrueType, and many others.

  79.     card information in the WinFax Pro preferences, and specify whether
  80.     your fax is a credit card call at the time of transmission.

  82.     DosFax Pro 2.0, which I also looked at, is as easy to use, and the
  83.     best DOS fax software that I have seen. You can share your phonebook
  84.     between the two programs.
