  8.                      3COM COMPATIBILITY IN AST EISA SYSTEMS

  11. PROBLEM:       There is a bus timing problem with 3COM's 3C507 Coax board
  12.                previous to modification 11, revision B and on the 3C507 TP
  13.                board modification 4, revision B.
  14.  
  15. CAUSE:         When 3COM 3C507 Coax and 3C507 TP network interface cards are
  16.                installed in AST EISA based systems, the following symptoms
  17.                will occur:
  18.  
  19.                - Intermittent lock ups
  20.                - Unreliable performance
  21.                - ABEND (NetWare)
  22.                - Trap Errors (OS/2)
  23.  
  24. SYSTEMS
  25. AFFECTED:      386 Tower EISA, 486 Tower EISA, Premium SE, Power Premium, and
  26.                486 Desktop EISA.
  27.  
  28. SOLUTION:      The following revisions must be installed to fix the problem:

  30.                The 3C507 Coax board must be a modification 11 or higher and
  31.                of revision B or higher.  This information is located in the
  32.                upper right hand column of the board and is displayed as
  33.                follows:

  35.                ASSY 6750-11 REV B
  36.  
  37.                The 3C507 TP board must be a modification 04 or higher and of
  38.                revision B or higher.  This information is located in the
  39.                upper right hand column of the board and is displayed as
  40.                follows:

  42.                ASSY 7508-04 REV B
  43.  
  44.                Customers with the above problem should call 3COM's RMA
  45.                department for an upgrade at (800) 876-3266.
