  8.                  PREMIUM EXEC BATTERY MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER

  11. Under certain circumstances, some Premium Exec 386SX/20 computers may exhibit
  12. one or more of the following problems when connected to the AC adapter after
  13. the battery has been completely discharged:
  14.  
  15.     - Battery will not charge completely.
  16.  
  17.     - Over charge of battery.
  18.  
  19.     - Erroneous battery charge level indicators (LED) when connected to the
  20.       AC Adapter.
  21.  
  22.     - Low battery alarm when connected to the AC Adapter.
  23.  
  24.     - Intermittent loss of display when booting.
  25.  
  26. To resolve these problems, it is necessary to reset the Battery Management
  27. Controller (BMC) chip.  To accomplish this, follow the steps listed below:

  29.     1.  Power off the Premium Exec.
  30.  
  31.     2.  Disconnect the AC Adapter from the Premium Exec.
  32.  
  33.     3.  Wait approximately 10 to 15 seconds, reconnect the AC Adapter to the
  34.         Premium Exec.
  35.  
  36.     4.  Power the Premium Exec back on.
  37.  
  38. If this does not resolve the problem, the system may have a defective BMC
  39. chip.  Contact AST or your nearest AST Authorized Service Center to have this
  40. chip replaced (re: Field Change Notice #0058).
