  13. is published every week and is made available for unlimited distribution.

  16. * ARSENE PROBLEMS *
  17. ===================
  18. Sources indicate that the ARSENE Amateur Satelite launched last week from
  19. the Kourou Space Center was sending only a weak radio signal after its
  20. deployment on Wednesday.  The ARSENE French Amateur Radio club satellite
  21. was one of two deployed by an Ariane rocket that lifted off at 9:56 p.m.
  22. Tuesday (0056 GMT Wednesday).

  24. "The signal is indeed coming from ARSENE, but it is extremely weak and
  25. not serviceable," said Jean Gruau, president of the Radio Amateur Club
  26. de l'Espace.  Gruau said his group and space officials were looking at
  27. whether the satellite was improperly oriented or whether equipment was
  28. malfunctioning.

  30. Officials report the Astra-1C satellite of the Luxembourg-based Societe
  31. Europeene des Satellites was functioning normally, however.

  49. and will continue for 6 perigees.  Estimated interim attitudes
  50. will be (accuracy +/- 5 deg): Orbit Alon/Alat  3752  180/+3,
  51. 3753  185/+3,  3754  189/+2,  3755  194/+2,   3756  199/+1,
  52. 3757  204/0,   3758  209/-1. The new  schedule will be uploaded
  53. during mode-L, orbit 3756, so it (only) will contain two
  54. mode-JLS sessions: MA 130-150 and 190-210.

  57. hours, MA 130 to MA 195.  New stations appear daily.
  58. MA 130-180 you will have to endure the coupling from Mode-B
  59. users operating at 145.880 - 145.920 MHz.  Either
  60. work between them, use as test signals or go x-band.
  61. MA 180-190 is Mode S transponder exclusive ( plus B beacon).
  62. MA 190-195 is Mode S beacon (plus mode-L transponder).

  84. I would like to thank all those who have send letters and other messages
  85. of support to me in the last few months.  I have been VERY busy this year
  86. with extra work that has left me little time for much else.  I apologize
  87. for not responding individually to each message received.  I would also
  88. like to thank all those who forward interesting news items to me every
  89. week.  I don't always have the space to include every item, but I do
  90. appreciate receiving them.

  92. In addition, my SpaceNews editing and distribution processes have been
  93. modified in the past several months.  For the past five years, SpaceNews
  94. has been written entirely on a Commodore 64 computer.  I am now using a
  95. variety of different computers for editing and news gathering, and the
  96. transition seems to have gone well.
