DX Bulletin No. 106
BID: $OPDX.106
April 5, 1993
Editor Tedd Mirgliotta, KB8NW
Provided by BARF-80 BBS Cleveland, Ohio
Online at 216-237-8208 14400/9600/2400/1200/300 8/N/1
Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society, Northern Ohio DX
Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster Network, DF4RD, IS0JMA, OH2BN, N2US,
W3YQ, KB8WC, K4CEF & Southeastern Cluster Group, K6OZL, NW8F, KF8VW,
K8YSE and VE3BW for the following DX information.
4W, YEMEN. It seems that the rumor OPDX reported a couple weeks ago about
a possible 4W1UA operation is true. Pete, K6EDV, reported on a DX net that
RW4WR, UA4WAE, UA9MA, UA4WII, possibily ZL1AMO and others, and himself
will be active the first week of October. Pete mentioned the group has the
licence in hand.
5A, LIBYA. There were some 5A0RS7 and 5A5A spots showing up on the cluster
network, but the feeling is they were the work of SLIMS.
8R1K AND EA8BH QSL CARDS. Martti Lane, OH2BH, will not be at Dayton
this year due to his planned dxpedition to Spratly (1S). He advised
that there is a new automated mail system in Finland now and envelopes
that do not conform to the standard European size require more than US
$1 postage. Martti has about 800 envelopes for the USA that OH2BGD
will be bringing to the US at Dayton Hamvention time. These envelopes
will be stamped and mailed in the USA. If you have not received your
8R1K or EA8BH card, be patient. And remember, when sending to Finland
in the future, use a European size envelope or include extra postage.
SPECIAL ADDED NOTE: Congratulations to Martti's son who is now OH2KNB!
9F, ERITREA. DJ9ZB and friends will be operating as 9F2DX sometime next
week (maybe around April 9th). QSL via DJ9ZB.
9G, GHANA. The Dutch operators continue to be active signing 9G1AA.
It was reported that they will be there until April 11. Activity has
been on: CW - 1832, 3505, 7005, 10105, 14020, 18075, 21020, 24900 and
28020 kHz. SSB - 1840, 3645/3775/3795, 7045/7080, 14195, 18125, 21295,
24940 and 28395 kHz. RTTY - 14090, 21090 and 28090 kHz. The Dutch
opertors listen for USA stations on 75 and 40 meters on 3800/3810 and
7175/7200 kHz. QSL to Wim Faasen, PA2FAS, Weeskinderendijk 81, 3314
CM Dordrecht, The Netherlands.
A5, BHUTAN. It was reported that a A51JM was working Europe on 20 meters
CW, April 2. There are not very many details about this station.
BV, TAIWAN. Joe, N4MQX, will be portable BV/N4MQX from April 9-20. He
will be active on 80-10 meters with a possibility of some 6 meter
activity.
ET, ETHIOPIA. Timo, OH5MVT, was reported active as ET3TI. His length
of stay is unknown at this time, but he was heard on 7004 kHz at 2130z.
FR/T, TROMELIN. Henri, FR5ZQ, will be signing FR5ZQ/T for one month.
W2/F2YS is trying to hold a sked on 14256 kHz at 0200z, but he has not
been able to raise him on the frequency as of yet. Keep listening.
J5, GUINEA-BISSAU. There is a new "YL" now operating from here and her
call is J52AK. Mark, J5UAI, is working on her antenna system. A
stateside manager may be in the works for this station. Stay tuned for
more details.
MARCONI MEMORIAL STATION. Roberto, IS0JMA, informs OPDX that on April
23rd, 24th and 25th, station IY0GA will be active from Cape Figari -
Golfo Aranci - (SS) Sardinia Island, Italy. IY0GA is among the 23 Marconi
stations in the world that will be participating with the "Cornish Radio
Amateur Club (Cornwall U.K)" during the International Marconi Day April
24th. Operations will be on HF-VHF-UHF and all modes. It was on August
11, 1932, when Gugliemo Marconi carried out a microwave test connecting
the lighthouse of Cape Figari (Mt. 340) with Rocca di Papa (Rome). QSL
to IS0JMA, Roberto Alaimo, P.O. Box 41, 07026 Olbia (SS), Sardinia
Island, Italy.
IOTA NA-139. Members of the Goddard Amateur Radio Club will be active
from Assateague Island from 0000z May 1 to 1200z May 2. The call sign
will be WA3NAN/3 and the frequenices will be 7185, 14260, 21260, 28460
kHz on SSB and for CW, check 25 kHz from bottom of band edge. QSL via
CBA.
QSLS IN THE MAIL. P5RS7 are being received in the mail. It was reported
earlier that the League would not rule on Romeo's documentation for this
operation until after March 31. The 9ER1TB cards are being received. The
card was reported to be a beautiful looking QSL, but Eritrea still does
not count as a separate new DXCC country.
UC, BELARUS REPUBLIC. From June 20 to July 2 the Belarus Republic will
be on 6 meters for the very first time. Hans, DL5BAC and Klaus, DJ9YE,
received permission to operate with the help of Sergej, UC2AKP, who will
also be joining their 6 meters DXpedition. They will operate from two
different grid-squares in this country. After a short visit in Minsk
they will travel to a small village near Gomel, where Sergej's grandmother
lives. From there they will start to operate from KO42 and KO41. Their
callsigns will be EV5D and EV5K in KO42, and EV5M and EV5N in KO41. They
will be active on 50.095, 50.145, 50.165 and 50.215, 28.885 Mhz (6m-Net)
and 14.345 Mhz (VHF-Net). Also a beacon will run on 50.077 during times
of inactivity. QSL via DL5BAC
V4, NEVIS ISLAND. Members from the Northern Ohio DX Association and the
Lake County Amateur Radio Association will be active from here April
29th to May 5th. Operators will be Jack/KB8WC signing V47WC, Scott/KO8O
signing V47RS and Bruce/N8LXS (call sign not issued yet). Activity will
be on 80-10 meters (including the WARCs) on CW and SSB. QSL all SSB
contacts to KB8WC and CW contacts to N8LXS.
XQ0X, SAN FELIX. Last week we reported that John, XQ0X, was very active
on CW, but the following interesting information was reported to OPDX.
It seems John has been joined by Julio, CE8CWO, a naval CW operator, who
has been passing out CW QSOs from time to time.
XW, LAOS. Joe, VE3BW, received a phone call from Hiro, JA2EZD, stating
he will be returning to XW-land April 28 to May 8. He will be active as
XW2A. QSL via CBA. Another operator will be joining him signing XW6A.
QSL via JL6LLD.
YI, IRAQ. Tomasz, SP5AUC, is now active from here, but his length of
stay is unknown. He was using the call YI9CW and stating to QSL via
P.O. Box 11, Warsaw 93, Poland. Activity this past weekend was on 15
meters CW between 1330-1700z. There had been other reports earlier this
