  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.

  5. PMJPEG v.0.95 has the following features:
  6.   - display JPEG, GIF, Targa, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP images
  7.   - display of JPEG images with 1-pass/2-pass quantization and
  8.     Floyd-Steinberg dithering
  9.   - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  10.   - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  11.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip
  12.   - batch file compression of GIF or TARGA files to JPEG File
  13.     Interchange Format (JFIF)
  14.  
  15. In order to see images displayed with the right colors, you must use a
  16. version of OS/2 and a 256 color driver that support palette manager.
  17. Both OS/2 2.0 with the Service Pack and OS/2 2.1 beta support palette
  18. manager.

  20. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with OS/2 2.1
  21. beta, you'll notice that the image under the dialog box or under the
  22. drop-down menu is not re-drawn correctly.  This is a bug in the ET4000
  23. driver.

  25. When you exit, the system colors may not return to normal.  This appears
  26. to be a bug with the palette manager of the December 1992 OS/2 2.1 beta.
  27. However, the palette does appear to correct itself after you open and/or
  28. close a window, such as the window list.

  30. The planned features for v.1.0 are:
  31.   - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP images
  32.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, or OS/2 BMP
  33.   - display of 24-bit images with 1-pass or 2-pass(for JPEG only)
  34.     quantization and Floyd-Steinberg dithering
  35.   - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  36.   - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  37.   - contrast enhancement
  38.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip
  39.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or TARGA files to JPEG File
  40.     Interchange Format (JFIF)
  41.   - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option

  43. Registered users will receive a copy of v.1.0 when it is available
  44. (expected in early April).

  56. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  57. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  58. following conditions are met:
  59.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  60.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  61.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  62.      is permitted.
  63.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  64.      without permission from the authors.

  67. HOW TO REGISTER
  68. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  69. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  70. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  71. many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M  3 1/2" floppy,
  72. or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered version does not
  73. have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.

  75. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  76. registration fee.  US residents, add $3 for shipping and handling;
  77. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you want PMJPEG
  78. e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed to you,
  79. there is no extra shipping charge.  For e-mail registrations, you need a
  80. utility called "uudecode" to decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to
  81. you.

  83. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  84. returned.

  86. Because of the lengthy time it takes to produce a new version and to
  87. distribute it to registered users, updates will cost $5.  Shipping fees
  88. described above apply to updates as well.  Updates are available when
  89. you see a new shareware version.
