SHAREWARE VERSION 2.21
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of SPANISH VERB MASTER must accept this disclaimer
of warranty: "SPANISH VERB MASTER is supplied as is.
The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied,
including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability
and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability
for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the
use of SPANISH VERB MASTER."
SPANISH VERB MASTER is a "shareware program" and is provided at
no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with
your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using SPANISH VERB MASTER and continue
to use SPANISH VERB MASTER after a reasonable trial period, you
must make a registration payment of $27.50 to SAHUARO SOFTWARE
& SYSTEMS. The $27.50 registration fee will license one copy
for use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this
software just like a book. An example is that this software may
be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one
computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility
of it being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
Commercial users of SPANISH VERB MASTER must register and pay for
their copies of SPANISH VERB MASTER within 30 days of first use
or their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be
made by contacting SAHUARO SOFTWARE & SYSTEMS.
Anyone distributing SPANISH VERB MASTER for any kind of
remuneration must first contact SAHUARO SOFTWARE & SYSTEMS at the
address below for authorization. This authorization will be
automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering SPANISH VERB MASTER immediately
(However SAHUARO SOFTWARE & SYSTEMS must still be advised so
that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
version of SPANISH VERB MASTER.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of SPANISH VERB MASTER along to
your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
their copy if they find that they can use it. All registered
users will receive a copy of the latest version of the SPANISH VERB
MASTER system, complete with a printed manual.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
IBM OR 100% COMPATIBLE PC WITH THE FOLLOWING
HARD DISK DRIVE WITH 1.5 MEG FREE SPACE
AND
640K RAM
GRAPHICS CARD
ENHANCED KEYBOARD
To run this program, copy ALL files to the same sub-directory
on your hard disk. ALL files MUST be in the same sub-directory.
Your CONFIG.SYS file should have the line DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS
to be certain your monitor will display the extended character set.
The extended characters are necessary to display the special
characters required by the Spanish language as well as the menu
boxes, etc.
This program is written for the USA keyboard.
Also if you have a serial port printer, you should use the
MODE command to assign your standard printer to COM1 or which-
ever port your serial printer is attached to. For example, you
can type in a command line change before starting the program:
MODE LPT1=COMx (where x = the com port number)
Your printer must be able to print the ASCII Extended char-
acter Set and should have Epson Compatability.
Every precaution has been taken to insure that this verb
conjugator works perfectly in all seventeen forms of the fifteen
moods and tenses of Spanish as intended. But as they say;
"Murphy's Law will prevail".

SPANISH VERB MASTER was written to take the guess work out
of the proper conjugation of Spanish verbs. Just a few key taps
will give you all seventeen forms of the fifteen moods and tenses
(there are two forms of one of the simple tenses and two forms of
one of the compound tenses as you will soon see) of a verb almost
instantaneously.
To start SPANISH VERB MASTER, just type VM2 and press the
enter key. You will see the opening screen showing the credits,
then after a short pause, an opening menu. We will give you a
run down on this menu one selection at a time, in numerical
order.
The menu choices are as follows:
Selection No. 1. Preview Verb Forms.
or Read Verb Usage File.
or Read Conjugation Rules.
or Dictionaries.
No. 2. Browse Verb List.
No. 3. Select Verb And Conjugate.
No. 4. Print To Screen Only.
No. 5. Print Hard Copy Of Verb.
No. 6. Exit Verb Master.
Start with number one. Jump right in and get your feet wet.
O.K.! To select selection number one, just type 1.
This will bring up the Auxiliary Menu with the following
choices:
Selection No. 1 Preview English Verb Forms.
No. 2 English to Spanish Dictionary.
No. 3 Spanish to English Dictionary.
No. 4 Read Verb Usage File.
No. 5 Read Conjugation Rules.
No. 6 Exit Verb Master Auxiliary.
We will address this menu first by typing number 1 again.
This will bring up a screen titled SELECT VERB TENSES. The
first two screens by this name are merely FYI, so after reading
each one, merely press the ENTER key. The third screen you will
see with the title SELECT VERB TENSES is the tense selection
menu.
This screen will allow you to select any of the seventeen
forms of the fifteen moods and tenses and see the equivalent
forns in English. As you can see, selections G & H are titled
the same and selections O & P are titled the same except that
they are called #1 & #2. This is because there are two forms of
these tenses in Spanish even though they both have the same English
equivalents.
To see what form the English takes for each tense simply
type the appropriate letter, A through Q. As you view each
screen showing the English equivalent of a tense, the bottom line
of the screen says "press ENTER to continue". Each time you
press enter, after viewing these equivalents, you are returned to
the SELECT VERB TENSES menu.
The last line on this menu says "press ESCAPE to return to
the menu". Press the ESC key and you will be returned to the
auxiliary menu, where you can continue the "grand tour".
To explore auxiliary menu selection number two, simply type
a 2, and you will see a screen titled VERB TO BE LOOKED UP, with
the prompt "Enter the verb to be looked up: " Here you may type
in an English verb or verb phrase that you wish to look at. Type
in the verb "annoy" and you will be given a list of possible verbs
with their definitions, allowing you to choose exactly the verb
you want to use.
You will also be asked if you want to choose a different
verb. Type a 'Y' or 'y' and you will be asked for another verb
or verb phrase. Type an 'N' or 'n' and you will be asked if you
would like to conjugate one of these verbs. Type an 'N' or 'n'
here, and you will be returned to the auxiliary menu. Type a 'Y'
or 'y' and you will be asked to enter the verb you want to
conjugate. Type the number of the verb "fatigar" and this verb
will automatically be exported back to the main program and
conjugated.
The screen that you will now see will be titled VERB TO BE
CONJUGATED and the prompt will ask if you want to choose a
different verb. Type a 'Y' or 'y' and you will be asked for the
verb you want to conjugate. If you respond with 'N' or 'n', you
will be presented with a screen telling you the verb is being
conjugated, and almost immediately, notification that
***CONJUGATION COMPLETE***.
Press enter and you will see a sample conjugation in the
PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE tense, showing all three persons singular and
three persons plural. Press enter again and you will be returned
to the opening or main menu. MAIN MENU selection number four allows
you to pick the tense you want to see in its conjugated form.
Type 4 and you see a menu simular to the SELECT VERB TENSES menu,
except that it is titled CONJUGATED VERB TENSES.
Here, if you type a letter from A through Q, you are
presented with screens showing the conjugated forms in Spanish.
You will also be prompted with "type x to print..." If you type
an 'X' or 'x', and if your printer is ready, the program will
print a hard copy of this tense only, complete with headers giving
the verb, its definition, and the tense selected. Press any other
key and you will be prompted with "press ENTER to continue."
As long as you press enter after viewing a conjugated form, you
can review these Spanish forms on the screen.
However, press ESC and return to the main menu where you can
select number 1 which will return you to the auxiliary menu.
Once there, type 3, and you will be taken to a screen titled
VERB TO BE DEFINED, with the prompt "enter verb to be defined".
Type in the verb "comer" (to eat) and press enter.
(Just type: comer and press ENTER.)
You are then presented with the definition of the verb comer.
The bottom line asks if you would like to define another. Type
'Y' or 'y' and you are given the prompt again. At this point you
can enter another verb to be defined, providing of course, the
verb is in the database. Type 'N' or 'n' and you will be returned
to the auxiliary menu.
Type 4, and a very fast "more" type program will print an
educational file on verb usage, complete with examples, to the
screen, one screenful at a time. When tired of reading this
file, press ESCAPE and return to the auxiliary menu. To print a
hard copy of this file, type COPY USAGE.TXT PRN and press ENTER.
A copy of this file is also included in the printed manual that
comes with the registered version.
Type 5, and you be able to read the verb conjugation rule
file in the same manner as above. Type COPY RULES.TXT PRN and
press ENTER fo a hard copy of this file. A copy of this file is
also contained in the printed manual
Type 6 and you will be asked if you are sure you want to
exit the auxiliary section. Type a 'Y' or 'y' and you will be
returned to the main menu and the main program.
To explore MAIN MENU selection number two, type 2 and you
will be presented with a screen titled VERB LISTING complete
with a listing of sixteen verbs and their definitions. The
last line of this screen says "List more verbs, Y/N ?". If you
continue to respond to this prompt by typing 'Y' or 'y', the
screen will continue to list more verbs until all the verbs in
the database have been listed. If you respond with 'N' or 'n',
you will be returned to the opening menu, where you will be able
to continue with the tour.
Selection number three: type 3 and you will see a screen
titled VERB TO BE CONJUGATED with a prompt asking you to type in
the verb you want conjugated. Again type in a verb like comer
and press ENTER. The screen now lists the verb, its definition,
the present participle, the past participle, and the type of verb
(regular, radical, irregular, etc.). The bottom line here asks
you if this is the verb you want or if you want to choose a
different verb. If you respond with 'Y' or 'y', you will be asked
to enter a different verb. If you respond with 'N' or 'n', you
will be presented with a screen telling you the verb is being
conjugated, and almost immediately, notification that
***CONJUGATION COMPLETE***.
Press enter and you will see a sample conjugation in the
PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE tense, showing all three persons singular and
three persons plural. Press enter again and you will be returned
to the opening menu, which brings you to selection number four
which allows you to pick the tense you want to see in its
conjugated form. Type 4 and you see a menu simular to the SELECT
VERB TENSES menu, except that it is titled CONJUGATED VERB
TENSES.
Here, if you type a letter from A through Q, you are
presented with screens showing the conjugated forms in Spanish.
You will also be prompted with "type x to print..." If you type
an x, and if your printer is ready, the program will print a
hard copy of this tense only, complete with headers giving the
verb, its definition, and the tense selected. Press any other
key and you will be prompted with "press ENTER to continue."
As long as you press enter after viewing a conjugated form, you
can review these Spanish forms on the screen.
However, press ESC and return to the main menu where you can
select number five which will print a hard copy of the verb,
conjugated in all seventeen forms of the fifteen moods and tenses,
with the appropriate headers listing the verb, its definition,
and headers naming the tense being listed.
As you can see from our little tour, this software is simple
to use. The only thing you need to know in the way of technical
things is how to enter the Spanish letter ñ, or "enye" (the tilda
n). This is also simple. Just press and hold down the ALT key
and on the numeric keypad type 164. That's all there is to it.
You can not use the numbers along the top of the letter keys; you
must use the numeric keypad to enter the ALT-164 combination.
Also an accented i ( í ) is ALT-161.
Remember, many hundreds of hours have gone into the
development of this software so if you like it, please tell your
friends about it. I promise that the software that I produce in
the future (serveral projects are in the works) will be just as
friendly as this.
HAPPY COMPUTING !
