  4.     You have a special video card from Hercules that lets you display 
  5.     graphics on a monochrome monitor.  The application from which you called 
  6.     PC-Directory is using this special graphics mode.  There are two "pages" 
  7.     in this mode and there is no way we can determine which page was in 
  8.     effect when PC-Directory was called, therefore we let you do the 
  9.     choosing.  If the screen is not restored correctly then call up PC-
  10.     Directory again and choose the other page when you exit.

  12.  "Sometimes my computer locks up when using PC-Directory with other memory 
  13.   resident programs.  What can I do?"
  14.  
  15.     Memory resident (MR) programs, while extremely helpful and popular, are 
  16.     a tricky bunch.  Unfortunately, at this point there are no clear 
  17.     guidelines for MR programs to follow that ensures compatibility.  While 
  18.     PC-Directory is a docile MR program, it's possible that in combination 
  19.     with other less civil programs problems could develop.

  21.     The order in which MR programs are loaded into memory can often be 
  22.     critical.  PC-Directory doesn't care when it's loaded, but other 
  23.     programs, such as SideKick, are very adamant about when they should be 
  24.     loaded.  Go back and review the documentation for any other MR programs 
  25.     you are using and make sure you're not stepping on anyones toes.

  27.     If that doesn't work then try isolating the program that's causing the 
  28.     conflict.  Reboot the computer.  Load the memory resident version of PC-
  29.     Directory.  Check to see that it works correctly.  Then load another 
  30.     memory resident program (maintaining the correct order, if necessary).  
  31.     Test and see if both programs work OK.  Keep loading programs in this 
  32.     manner, testing each one and PC-Directory each time, until something 
  33.     goes wrong.  You've found the culprit.

  35.     If all else fails, remember, you don't have to use the memory resident 
  36.     version of PC-Directory if you don't want.  You can run the non-memory 
  37.     resident version by entering "DDIR" at any DOS prompt, assuming of 
  38.     course that DDIR.COM is in the current directory or in the Path 
  39.     directory.
