  15.        Two parts are required: part A (main program) and part B 
  16.        (mailing list and support files).

  18.        Installation: You may either copy the self-extracting file 
  19.        SMSDATA.EXE to your hard drive and unpack it using the command  
  20.        SMSDATA or you may use menu driven installation by typing the 
  21.        command INSTALL. After installation of part A, start the 
  22.        program with the command SMS.

  26.        The $HAREWARE MARKETING $YSTEM is a detailed two part resource 
  27.        for shareware authors who need creative marketing ideas and a 
  28.        RATED mailing list of over 4,000 major shareware distributors, 
  29.        large computer clubs, key magazine editors, recommended BBS 
  30.        systems and more! Software programmers and authors can use the 
  31.        detailed mailing list to mail software in an effective, highly 
  32.        successful manner! Also contains detailed newsletter and 
  33.        marketing guide.

  35.        The first portion of the package is a detailed newsletter and 
  36.        marketing strategy guide which has been prepared by an 
  37.        established shareware author and contains dozens of creative 
  38.        tips, tricks and traps which every shareware author should 
  39.        review. Written by the author of the PC-LEARN computer tutorial 
  40.        which has accumulated over 9000 registrations in 3 years, the 
  41.        $HAREWARE MARKETING $YSTEM provides detailed and experienced 
  42.        information in a frank, candid and sensible style. This is a 
  43.        package for the shareware author who desperately needs CREATIVE

  46.        The second part of the package, the mailing list database, 
  47.        contains detailed addresses, phone numbers, a UNIQUE MAILING 
  48.        LIST RATING and other detailed data which can be used to prepare 
  49.        envelope mailing labels or BBS calling uploads. The database 
  50.        file is rated by a unique quality ranking so you can mail 
  51.        shareware to key vendors, computer clubs, magazine editors, BBS 
  52.        systems and others ranked A, B or C. The database file is 
  53.        supplied in standard dBase III (DBF) file format which can be 
  54.        imported into your database. Other file formats such as Lotus, 
  55.        Paradox and ASCII text file formats are available from the

  59.        special graphics. You will need a database program such as PC-

  140.                   INSTALLATION AND UNPACKING OF THIS PROGRAM

  144.        The SMS package is quite large and is stored in compressed files 
  145.        produced by the software program LHA written by Haruyasu 
  146.        Yoshizaki. Unpacking to a hard drive is recommended. A custom 
  147.        version which can be used on a floppy system is available to 
  148.        registered users. Contact the author.

  150.        Installation: You may either copy the self-extracting file 
  151.        SMSDATA.EXE to your hard drive and unpack it using the command  
  152.        SMSDATA or you may use menu driven installation by typing the 
  153.        command INSTALL. After installation of part A, start the 
  154.        program with the command SMS.

  156.        For most users, select the normal installation procedure which 
  157.        assumes part A of the SMS package is located on a floppy in your 
  158.        A: drive. Do the following at the DOS prompt:

  162.        Once unpacked, start the main program using the command:

  166.        You must, of course, switch or change into the hard drive 
  167.        subdirectory which now contains the unpacked SMS files.

  169.        Part B of the SMS package contains a large self extracting 
  170.        mailing list file (DATABASE.EXE). Most users will choose to 
  171.        unpack part B later, when they are ready to use the mailing 
  172.        list. Further instructions on unpacking and using the 
  173.        database mailing list are contained in a tutorial which is 
  174.        presented in part A. The tutorial is called "DATABASE USE" 
  175.        and is available from the main menu of unpacked part A.
