Program:
ADJUST.EXE
Version:
Prg:1.10.
Doc:1.10.
Legal:
Read legal.txt
System:
PC-comp.
Platform:
REAL
Purpose:
To correct the name on amigamodules and set extension to whatever
is closest to the nature of the module in question.
Check the file modtypes.lst for a list of the currently supported
module formats.
Parameters:
Filespecs. Any combination valid - so users must beware. No proper
check is done to check that the file being worked on is actually a
valid module.
For some time now the L parameter has been used at beta testing.
It gives a complete list of all modules processed (altered or not)
called ADJUST.LOG. Currently there's a small bug somewhere but I
thought I'd mention it if you get lost in the process of renaming
the modules. Or would like to to do some reverse naming to the
previous filenames.
Limits:
ADJUST won't kill files (on purpose) and modules with no songname
will be left unchanged. 1st dublette will have "1" as 8th char in
conventional name. 2nd-> dublettes will increase from "1" in 8th
char in conventional name. Beyond 10 levels of same songname
modules are left unchanged. Note sequence in which modules are
renamed is the sequence they are read from dos -> no sorting.
Maybe I'll make a parameter so the dos-name is written into the
module where the song title should have been, but this is kind of
dangerous. If someone transfers a module from the amiga and the
name passed between the transfers protocols is invalid then the
original modulename may be misspelled on the PC later when the user
finds the name unusable (ex: "mod.hey" was "mod.hey stoopid" but
user writes "ren mod.hey alicec.mod" and then you got two modules
one on the amiga with the right name and one on the PC (or other)
with a little twist because Alice Cooper made the real Hey Stoopid!
and people now think there are two conversions on the BBS's and DL
both.)
Upcoming: Modules without proper extension will be changed no matter
if the songtitle is present or not.
Nameconvention:
ADJUST will take the songname and compose a new dosname omitting
chars that aren't within 0-9,a-z,A-Z. As to be more than just
dos-compatible leading string "mod." and empty spaces will be
omitted to ensure a recognizeable dosname. One thing it cannot look
out for is leading artistnames like "dasch.", "sky." and the
totally dispicable, "VCC+GIGACAR 1989!!" which is in several
modules regardless of contents and so on.
Background:
I had had it up to here (!) with modules with strange dosnames
contrary to their songnames which often led me to DL a module more
than once because some people renamed an amigamodule with parts of
the songname and not by some kind of divine convention ;-)
Especially annoying are the modules with no songnames whatsoever.
They won't be changed though I should perhaps filter them for
unalphabetical chars?.
Maybe I'll include a small database with my 1674 modules and
that'll keep it clear for everyone. But 1674 modules is not enough.
Failure:
If ADJUST makes any errors, formats a disk for no apparent reason
or does other things you didn't expect - don't blame me I'm just
the coder ;-)
My adress is at the bottom, you can write to me about bugs and so on
but I'm not gonna compensate for what ADJUST did to you. I reserve
the right to name this program ADJUST with the purposes this
version and future version have to offer, without being bullied in
any way as to how it work on your system. I shall though do only my
BEST to always make ADJUST behave well and civilized even when it
encounters things not ideal for carrying out its designed purpose,
as foreseen by the programmer at the point of design,
implementation and testing. It is my hope that a failed run of the
program may trigger you to tell me what happened so that I (should
I have the time!) may find out what did happen and try to fix it.

ENDNOTES January 8 1994:
It is my hope that SYSOPS will take the time and create a
batch job that will unpack a module from the archive, run
ADJUST.EXE on the modules and re-pack the modules to the archive.
Something like this should be enough:
(Make a dir under the dir of the archives)
[Packername] E ..\archive MOD.*
[Packername] E ..\archive *.MOD
[Packername] D ..\archive MOD.*
[Packername] D ..\archive *.MOD
ADJUST *.* L
COPY ADJUST.LOG ..\archive.LOG
DEL *.LOG
[Packername] M -T ..\archive *.*
then some kind of loop with new archivename.
But the name inside archives aren't always so see-through, bbs
adverts clutter everything up sometimes, also (which is good
though) a small textfile from the author of the .mod is in there or
at least a text from the ripper which is less good than the author-
name.
Upcoming: A more strict, useful, versatile and userfriendly util for
sysops is currently under examination & design. No release dates but
a betaversion at The CodeBlasters party at Easter would be nice, eh?
