  12. The following drivers are included:
  13. DRIVERS FOR OS/2 2.0:
  14.             32-Bit 256 COLORS BLITTER DRIVER AND 16 COLORS NON-BLITTER DRIVER
  15. DRIVERS FOR OS/2 2.1: 
  16.              256 COLORS BLITTER DRIVER FOR CIRRUS LOGIC'S GD542X CHIP

  19. File extraction and creating installation disks
  20. ===============================================
  21. 1.   Copy all files in this directory onto a floppy disk:
  22.  
  23.         COPY \SPEA\INSTALL\VEGA\OS2\*.* A:\*.*
  24.  
  25.      Now you have to label this floppy disk with DISP 1. 
  26.      (DISP 1 is DISPLAY 1)
  27.      Note the space between DISP and 1!        
  28.  
  29. 2.   To install the drivers please proceed as described by CL Incorporated
  30.      in next part of this README!

  32. 3) INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR OS/2 2.0 
  33. ===================================   
  34.    32-Bit 256 COLORS BLITTER DRIVER AND 
  35.    16 COLORS NON-BLITTER DRIVER FOR CIRRUS LOGIC'S GD542X CHIPS

  37. Installing the 256 colors blitter driver:
  38. -----------------------------------------
  39. 1. Edit OS/2's config.sys file with the following settings
  40.  
  41.    set video_devices=vio_SVGA
  42.    set vio_SVGA=device(bvhvga,BVHSVGA)
  43.    device=%1:\os2\mdos\VSVGA.SYS
  44.  
  45. 2. Bring up a DOS full screen session, run Clmode utility to set monitor type,
  46.    then insert Cirrus Logic's driver diskette in drive A or B, 
  47.    type A:SVGA.EXE ON or B:SVGA.EXE ON to create a svgadata.pmi file
  48.  
  49. 3. Shutdown the system to boot up from the OS/2 2.0 Installation
  50.    Diskette, then ESC out of Diskette One to run cli25620.cmd
  51.

  53. Installing the 16 colors non-blitter driver:
  54. --------------------------------------------
  55. 1. Edit OS/2's config.sys file with the following settings.
  56.  
  57.    add %1:\OS2\DLL\CLDSP; to the immediate right of LIBPATH=
  58.    set video_devices=vio_SVGA
  59.    set vio_SVGA=device(bvhvga,BVHSVGA)
  60.    device=%1:\os2\mdos\VSVGA.SYS
  61.  
  62. 2. Bring up a DOS full screen session, run Clmode utility to set monitor type,
  63.    then insert Cirrus Logic's driver diskette in drive A or B,

  74. Install from floppy diskette:
  75. -----------------------------
  76. 1. insert display driver disk one (labelled DISP 1) in a floppy drive 
  77.  
  78. 2. invoke an OS/2 window session or an OS/2 full screen session
  79.  
  80. 3. change to the floppy drive with the display driver disk, e.g. a:
  81.  
  82. 4. run clinst21.cmd from the floppy drive, e.g. clinst21 c
  83.  
  84. 5. check the 'Primary Display' check box from the DISPLAY DRIVER INSTALL
  85.    dialog box
  86.  
  87. 6. select Cirrus Logic Blitter Driver from the PRIMARY DISPLAY ADAPTER TYPE
  88.    dialog box
  89.  
  90. 7. click OK to MONITOR CONFIGURATION/SELECTION UTILITY dialog box or
  91.    type c:\utils\clmode.exe m5 after selecting the 'Install Using
  92.    Display Adapter Utility Program' option
  93.  
  94. 8. select the display resolution of choice from the SELECT DISPLAY RESOLUTION
  95.    list box
  96.  
  97. 9. click the 'Install' button in the SOURCE DIRECTORY dialog box and follow
  98.    prompts
  99.  
  100. Note: During installation, the target file may have a newer date than the
  101.    source file, select the 'Yes' button when the installation program display
  102.    a dialog box to notify the user of this situation.

  105. Install from the hard drive:
  106. ----------------------------
  107. 1. xcopy display driver disk one to the hard drive, target directory
  108.    must be named DISP_1, e.g. xcopy a: c:\disp_1
  109.  
  110. 2. invoke an OS/2 window session or an OS/2 full screen session
  111.  
  112. 3. change to \disp_1 directory, run clinst21.cmd, e.g. clinst21 c
  113.  
  114. 4. check the 'Primary Display' check box from the DISPLAY DRIVER INSTALL
  115.    dialog box
  116.  
  117. 5. select Cirrus Logic Blitter Driver from PRIMARY DISPLAY ADAPTER TYPE
  118.    dialog box
  119.  
  120. 6. click OK to MONITOR CONFIGURATION/SELECTION UTILITY dialog box or
  121.    type c:\utils\clmode.exe m5 after selecting the 'Install Using
  122.    Display Adapter Utility Program' option

  124. 7. select the display resolution of choice from the SELECT DISPLAY RESOLUTION

  127. 8. click the 'Change' button in the SOURCE DIRECTORY dialog box, type
  128.    c:\disp_1 in edit box and follow prompts

  137. Additional notes:
  138. -----------------
  139. dspinstl.exe calls svga.exe to identify the SVGA chip before proceeding with
  140. installation.  The svga.exe shipped with OS/2 2.1 does not recognize GD5428.
  141. clinst21.cmd will update svga.exe before calling dspinstl.exe so that GD5428
  142. will be identified.  Subsequent installation of Cirrus display drivers or
  143. modification of display resolutions can be performed using the dspinstl.exe
  144. directly.

  147. 5) Known Restrictions
  148. =====================
  149. - Function 'Help' in display device installation/-selection menu can not 
  150. be activated - installation with default values.
