  47.     The V7-MERCURY P-64 graphic card is a product that offers significantly
  48.     enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and 
  49.     accelerator boards.
  50.  
  51.       This particularly applies to  
  52.     - higher resolutions    and
  53.         - higher refresh rates.
  54.  
  55.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  56.     features provided by the V7-MERCURY P-64, if the other components of 
  57.     your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  58.     also comply with the specifications of the V7-MERCURY P-64.
  59.   
  60.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  61.     V7-MERCURY P-64 can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  62.     fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  69.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':
  70.  
  71.         Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
  72.         Manager. Then enter:
  73.  
  74.         a) (Drivers for Windows Disk)      b) (Media Gallery-CD)

  81.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  82.     for a specific non windows application.
  83.  
  84.     (1) (Only for floppy disk installation. You have to start the installation
  85.         from Media Gallery CD-ROM always with SPEAINST.)
  86.  
  87.         First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY P-64 Super-
  88.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  89.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MERCURY P-64
  90.     Superdisk.
  91.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  92.     directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  93.     drivers for.
  94.  
  95.     - change to the V7-MERCURY P-64 Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  96.     - select the language you prefer,
  97.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  98.  
  99.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  100.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  101.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  102.     supported by the V7-MERCURY P-64.
  103.  
  104.     VESA modes:
  105.     The V7-MERCURY P-64 BIOS does not support the VESA interface. 
  106.     If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
  107.     V7MEPVBE.EXE should be executed.

  110.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  113.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  114.     V7-MERCURY P-64 must comply to the specifications of the V7-MERCURY 
  115.     P-64. Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MERCURY P-64 
  116.     be used.
  117.  
  118.     In order to use your monitor in connection with the V7-MERCURY P-64 
  119.     in the most effective way you have the possibility to choose 
  120.     between two different BIOS versions with various monitor parameters
  121.     on your graphics board. You can select each of the BIOS version via 
  122.     the corresponding jumper on the V7-MERCURY P-64 (see manual).
  123.     You will find a detailed description of the available graphics modes  
  124.     in the file BIOS.TXT in your SPEA directory. 
  125.     Important:
  126.     Please be aware that every time you change the BIOS jumper,
  127.     you have to delete the settings done with the program SPTUNE.EXE.
  128.     Therefore use the program EFIX.EXE in the SPEA directory. 
  129.     The program SPEAtune is designed to select and modify the various
  130.     monitor parameters. Please read the corresponding sections in
  131.     the V7-MERCURY P-64 manual.

  134.                 *** IMPORTANT ***

  136.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  137.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  138.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  139.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  140.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates using
  141.     SPEAtune !

  144.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  147.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more active VGA boards in one PC at 
  148.     the same time. 
  149.     In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY P-64 board in a PC that has a 
  150.     VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  151.     VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MERCURY P-64 may be used.

  153.     (2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  154.  
  155.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  156.  
  157.     in their configuration programs.
  158.  
  159.     These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MERCURY P-64.

  161.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  162.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY P-64 is
  163.     being installed.

  170.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  171.     available for the V7-MERCURY P-64. These READMEs contain last-minute 
  172.     information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  173.     mation related to known limitations.

  175.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  176.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  177.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  178.     the file name extension .DOC .
  179.  
  180.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  181.     display the README file on your screen.

  196.     Run EFIX if SPTUNE causes an error in the menu "BildTuning Setup"

  211.     and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.        
  212.     Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again  
  213.     if you change your monitor.
