║ V7-MERCURY P-64 Graphic CARD : General Remarks ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
The V7-MERCURY P-64 graphic card is a product that offers significantly
enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and
accelerator boards.
This particularly applies to
- higher resolutions and
- higher refresh rates.
Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the
features provided by the V7-MERCURY P-64, if the other components of
your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
also comply with the specifications of the V7-MERCURY P-64.
(Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the
V7-MERCURY P-64 can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

║ Windows Driver Installation ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':
Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
Manager. Then enter:
a) (Drivers for Windows Disk) b) (Media Gallery-CD)
A:\V7SETUP <CD drive>:SPEAINST
╔═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ Drivers / Utilities Installation For Other Applications ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
for a specific non windows application.
(1) (Only for floppy disk installation. You have to start the installation
from Media Gallery CD-ROM always with SPEAINST.)
First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY P-64 Super-
disk to the hard disk of your system.
This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MERCURY P-64
Superdisk.
Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and
directories the applications are installed that you want to install
drivers for.
- change to the V7-MERCURY P-64 Superdisk and call INSTALL,
- select the language you prefer,
- and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.
(2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the
applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The
User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
supported by the V7-MERCURY P-64.
VESA modes:
The V7-MERCURY P-64 BIOS does not support the VESA interface.
If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
V7MEPVBE.EXE should be executed.
╔═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ Monitor Selection ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
V7-MERCURY P-64 must comply to the specifications of the V7-MERCURY
P-64. Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MERCURY P-64
be used.
In order to use your monitor in connection with the V7-MERCURY P-64
in the most effective way you have the possibility to choose
between two different BIOS versions with various monitor parameters
on your graphics board. You can select each of the BIOS version via
the corresponding jumper on the V7-MERCURY P-64 (see manual).
You will find a detailed description of the available graphics modes
in the file BIOS.TXT in your SPEA directory.
Important:
Please be aware that every time you change the BIOS jumper,
you have to delete the settings done with the program SPTUNE.EXE.
Therefore use the program EFIX.EXE in the SPEA directory.
The program SPEAtune is designed to select and modify the various
monitor parameters. Please read the corresponding sections in
the V7-MERCURY P-64 manual.
*** IMPORTANT ***
Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven
with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates using
SPEAtune !

║ Known Limitations ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
(1) It is not possible to use two or more active VGA boards in one PC at
the same time.
In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY P-64 board in a PC that has a
VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MERCURY P-64 may be used.
(2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer
"Video 7 ..." display interfaces
in their configuration programs.
These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MERCURY P-64.
Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to
guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY P-64 is
being installed.

║ Notes on Applications ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
available for the V7-MERCURY P-64. These READMEs contain last-minute
information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
mation related to known limitations.
These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
the related driver has been selected for installation while
running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
the file name extension .DOC .
Use the command SHOW *.DOC from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
display the README file on your screen.
EXAMPLE :
----------
C:>CD \SPEA\GDC change to \SPEA\GDC
C:\SPEA\GDC> SHOW ACAD.DOC Show the README file for AutoCAD
