  34. ║ We're back with a new release, courtesy of our contributors. This time we   ║
  35. ║ are releasing a CD image containing assets from the 1998-1999 iteration of  ║
  36. ║ Duke Nukem Forever. It includes several models, tools, reference photos,    ║
  37. ║ and textures. An early test map can be found under the 'bright' directory:  ║
  38. ║ kslab3.unr.                                                                 ║
  39. ║                                                                             ║
  40. ║ Some of the more interesting models to be found on the disc are not stored  ║
  41. ║ in easily viewable formats (duke, highgus, swatcop). These character models ║
  42. ║ are only available in .ucx format unlike the 'bombshell' and 'alienship1'   ║
  43. ║ models, which are also available in .mdx format. All other models are only  ║
  44. ║ available in .mdx format and are thus easily viewable in the Cannibal tool. ║
  45. ║                                                                             ║
  46. ║ The .ucx format is a standard Unreal Engine 1 package file containing a     ║
  47. ║ heavily customized 'Mesh' object and its related assets. In order to allow  ║
  48. ║ these models to be viewed, we have spent several days reverse engineering   ║
  49. ║ the structure of the files and produced a tool to convert them to .mdx with ║
  50. ║ animations and triggers intact. The source code for this tool is included,  ║
  51. ║ which also serves as a rudimentary specification for the 'Mesh' objects in  ║
  52. ║ the .ucx package files.                                                     ║
  53. ║                                                                             ║
  54. ║ Two builds of the 'Cannibal' mesh skinning software can be found on the CD. ║
  55. ║ However, the older of the two builds ('Cannibal2old.exe') contains remnants ║
  56. ║ of a CIH v1.2 malware infection. The malware appears to have been disabled  ║
  57. ║ but we would still not recommend running it on your system.                 ║

  59. ║ Running 'Cannibal2.exe' on a modern Windows installation will require you   ║
  60. ║ to install a Glide wrapper such as nGlide.                                  ║
