  17. Have you ever used the Internet or CompuServe?  If so, you've
  18. probably encountered ZIP files.  Are you a Windows user?  If so,
  19. WinZip is THE way to handle these archived files.

  21. WinZip brings the convenience of Windows to the use of Zip files
  22. and other compression formats.  Windows 95, NT, and Windows 3.1
  23. versions are shipped on the same disk.  WinZip features include:

  25. Windows 95 support:  WinZip includes long filename support and
  26. tight integration with the Windows 95 shell.  Drag and drop to or
  27. from the Explorer, or zip and unzip without leaving the Explorer.

  29. Internet support:  WinZip features built-in support for popular
  30. Internet file formats:  TAR, gzip, Unix compress, UUEncode,
  31. XXencode, BinHex, and MIME.  ARJ, LZH, and ARC files are supported
  32. via external programs.  You can use WinZip to access almost all
  33. the files you download from the Internet.  In addition, the freely
  34. downloadable WinZip Internet Browser Support Add-On lets you
  35. download and open archives with one click using Microsoft Internet
  36. Explorer or Netscape Navigator.  WinZip interfaces to most virus
  37. scanners.

  39. Built-in 100% PKZIP-compatible ZIP and UNZIP, including support
  40. for multi-disk Zip files (PKZIP and PKUNZIP are NOT required for
  41. any zipping or unzipping operations).

  43. The WinZip Wizard:  this optional feature uses the standard and
  44. familiar "wizard" interface to simplify the process of unzipping
  45. and installing software distributed in Zip files. The WinZip
  46. Wizard is not targeted at experienced users, but is ideal for the
  47. rapidly growing number of PC users getting started with Zip files.

  49. zipping features, the full WinZip Classic interface is just a

  98. WinZip is extremely easy to use!  To open an archive simply double
  99. click on an archive listed in the File Manager or Explorer, drag
  100. and drop an archive onto WinZip, or use the standard Open dialog.
  101. The main WinZip window features a list box with the names, sizes,
  102. and date/time stamps of all files in the open archive.  This list
  103. can be scrolled and sorted on any field.  A tool bar provides fast
  104. access to commonly used actions.  All options (including window
  105. size and position) can be saved and restored.  Extensive context
  106. sensitive help is always available.

  108. Double clicking on a file in the main window has the same effect
  109. as double clicking in the File Manager or Explorer.  First the
  110. file is extracted from the archive.  If the file is executable, it
  111. is run.  Otherwise, the file is opened by the appropriate
  112. application (for example, Windows Write for *.WRI files) based on
  113. standard Windows associations.

  115. Under Windows 3.1 WinZip's unique "Install/Uninstall Feature"
  116. makes it easy to install and uninstall software distributed in
  117. archives.  This feature can save megabytes of disk space by
  118. tracking and removing all traces of an application.  WinZip will
  119. run the installation program in an archive, give you a chance to
  120. try the program, and optionally offer to restore your system to
  121. its original state.  The uninstall step can selectively remove
  122. folders, files, icons, or program groups created by an install
  123. program, and can restore any altered INI files.  You have complete
  124. control over the uninstall process, and no changes are made
  125. without approval.

  127. If an archive doesn't have an "install" or "setup" program you can
  128. use the CheckOut facility to easily try the files in the archive.
  129. The CheckOut facility will extract all files and create a program
  130. group with icons for all or some files.  Just double click on an
  131. icon in the CheckOut group to view the corresponding file with the
  132. appropriate application.  Later, WinZip will optionally delete the
  133. CheckOut files and program group.

  137. The 32-bit version requires Windows 95 or Windows NT.  The 16-bit
  138. version requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups.  While no
  139. other programs are required for basic operations involving ZIP,
  140. TAR, GZ, Z files, UUencoded, XXencode, BinHex, or MIME files,
  141. optional features require one or more external programs.  See the
