Astro-World Installation
INSTALLATION OF THE DISK-VERSION
********************************
To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no
other programs (THIS INCLUDES ANY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE) are running
while the installation takes place, which is just good practice.
Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program
Manager, click File and then Run. Type A:\AW232E (or B:\AW232E if
you using the B: drive). The setup will ask if you wish to
install the software on C:\ASTRO23E (you can type in the drive and
directory of your choice here). Click OK and insert disk #2
when asked to do so.
After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to
integrate the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts:
It contains the symbols of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets.
If you forget to install this font, you'll find ordinary letters
instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs on your print-out!
INSTALLATION OF THE BBS VERSION
********************************
The whole package consists of two disks but will be uploaded as physically
*ONE* file which contains both ædisksÆ
To install the downloaded image, copy the file into a temporary directory (e.g.: C:\Temp)
and unpack it with:
PKUNZIP -o aw232e.zip
After unpacking you should have: AW232e.EXE and AW232e.W02
Now you can start the program C:\Temp\AW232e.EXE from Windows (not out of a DOS-Box!).
INSTALLATION OF THE ASTRO-FONT
******************************
The Astro-World setup program will attempt to install the Astro font
automatically. However, this operation might fail if you already
have an Astro-Font named ASTRO.TTF installed in a unique way. It is
therefore important that you uninstall any previous copy of Astro.TTF
prior to installation.
During Setup, re-installation of this font is necessary for two reasons:
1. ASTRO.TTF dated 10.8.1995 reveals a Windows 3.1 bug that causes a
TrueType font problem when a program window is minimised.
2. Astro-World v2.3 additionally includes support for the planets Chiron
and Lilith. The glyphs for these bodies has been added to the Astro-
Font shipped with version 2.3. Therefore if the glyphs for Chiron
and Lilith appear on an Astro-World Chart as a square you will know
that the new Astro-Font is not installed.
To ensure correct installation of the Astro-Font, proceed as follows to
manually install the font:
Delete the installed font by opening the Control Panel under Windows,
select Fonts, then choose the font Astro. Click the delete button and
for Windows 3.1, check the "Delete font from Disk" box. Click OK
To install the TrueType font, simply open the Control Panel under Windows,
select Fonts, then Add, and choose Astro from the source drive and directory.
(This will be drive C: then the directory \ASTRO23E by default).
Important note for early users of the extended Astro font:
You will require an update for this font to obtain and use the Chiron and
Lilith glyphs. Contact your original source for an update.
Non-users can purchase the extended Astro-font via:
Kenneth Hirst (email: 71204.2704@compuserve.com) or 714-733-0423
or, via our Astro-World web site at: http://www.thenet.ch/astro-world
Including additional Databases
******************************
In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed
as follows:
1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A:
2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations.
3) Select the database of locations <FILE.ASC> and confirm your
selection with OK.
The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar
with DOS, there is a faster method:
- Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on
your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have
set one up).
- Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations.
- Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in
drive A.
- Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select
the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.
