PasTeX 1.4
--- final 1 ---
28.05.95
©Georg Heßmann
This is the first free distributable /final/ version of PasTeX 1.4.
PasTeX 1.4 is copyrighted by Georg Heßmann and is distributed
under the term of the GNU general public license.
(see TeX:source/COPYING)
FINAL: It's not the final version I've hoped, it does still miss much.
Especially the documentation. But I havn't much time for PasTeX
in the last half a year, so I've decided it would be better I
release it as it is and don't wait some more years.
But you have the force!
-----------------------
* This version includes the full source of every PasTeX program! *
* So, if you miss some importand features of if you have found a bug, *
* you can fix it for yourself. For copyright and installation notes *
* see the README and COPYING file in TeX:source. *
CD-ROM Version:
---------------
This CD-ROM version consists, like the versions before, not only of PasTeX
programs. To made a as complete as possible TeX installation, which is
easy to use (out of the box), I've also included programs/tools which I
don't have ported or programed. E.g. the Metafont port from Andreas Scherer.
These programs have there own copyright notes and they are of course not
altered by the PasTeX copyright.
The PasTeX programs are:
ShowDVI V1.40, DVIprint V1.40, SpecialHost V1.19, flib V1.10 and lsfont V1.0.
Ported from me (and Bernd Raichle) for PasTeX are: initex and virtex V3.1415.
Documentation:
--------------
There is no new documentation for PasTeX 1.4. The documentation is still
for PasTeX 1.3. One exception: There is an up to date documentation for
SpecialHost. The SpecialHost documentation is found in the
TeX:src/SpecialHost/Docs directory. It's mostly in german, but as an sample
it should also help non german speakers.
Because of the lack of documentation, use these hints to find out (some of)
the features of the drivers:
o Call "ShowDVI help" and press RETURN.
So you get a list of all possible command line switches.
(You can save ever used switches in the ENV:SHOWDVI variable)
o Start ShowDVI and do a 'save config' (AMIGA-W).
Now have a look into the file TeX:config/ShowDVI.config.
There are some nice config features like 'maximal-dvibuff-size'.
o Call "DVIprint help" and press RETURN
So you get a list of all possible command line switches.
(You can save ever used switches in the ENV:DVIPRINT variable)
o Look into the files TeX:config/#?.fnt and use 'SnoopDos' to
see, how the drivers do the font searching.
o One additional hint for SpecialHost: If you have some free bytes on
your hard disk, than use the "image on disk" transfer method. This
saves (especially with Postscript(R) pictures) much time.
Further Development:
--------------------
PasTeX is dead? No! I hope not!
It's true, that I have found more hobbies, than only the Amiga and so I
don't have much time for my poor Amiga. But I still love the Amiga and
think it's a great system.
But because I don't have much time for further development, I hope there
will be some nice programers, who want improve my PasTeX version.
So I release the complete source.
But 1000 and one new PasTeX version would confuse the TeX users. So it
would be good, if there will be a managing system, so that the improvements
will be centered into one version.
Maybe a mailing list would be such a managing system? Or a alt.* newsgroup?
If there are questions about the source, I will try to answer them, but
I've not so much time, so I can't guarantee, that I will respond to
every question.
Changes:
--------
Most visible change from older PasTeX versions is the new directory structure
for fonts, macros and the pool file. Fonts now under TeX:fonts/ (fontmetric
files .../tfm, pk-files .../pk/<mode-name>), and macros now under TeX:inputs
instead of TeX:macros. The pool-file is no longer under TeX:, now it has it's
own directory TeX:pool.
Copyright:
----------
The PasTeX programs are copyrighted by Georg Heßmann. The distribution
is permitted under the term of the GNU gerneral public license.
HWGPOST:
--------
Thanks to a special permission from the author Heinz Wrobel, this CD-ROM
distribution includes HWGPOST, an improved post.library that is used by
SpecialHost to give PostScript compatibility to ShowDVI and DVIprint.
The following files were taken from the HWGPOST beta 6 distribution:
- doc/HWGPOST/History
- doc/HWGPOST/README.FIRST
- libs/post.library
- ps/init.ps
- ps/HWGPOSTResources (the Bakoma-Fonts have been added here)
For a complete and unchanged distribution of HWGPOST beta 6, please get
text/print/HWGPOSTbeta6.lha from Aminet. To see what is included in the
full distribution, have a look at doc/HWGPOST/README.FIRST.
