  38. CD-ROM Version:

  41. This CD-ROM version consists, like the versions before, not only of PasTeX
  42. programs. To made a as complete as possible TeX installation, which is
  43. easy to use (out of the box), I've also included programs/tools which I
  44. don't have ported or programed. E.g. the Metafont port from Andreas Scherer.
  45. These programs have there own copyright notes and they are of course not
  46. altered by the PasTeX copyright.

  48. The PasTeX programs are: 
  49. ShowDVI V1.40, DVIprint V1.40, SpecialHost V1.19, flib V1.10 and lsfont V1.0.
  50. Ported from me (and Bernd Raichle) for PasTeX are: initex and virtex V3.1415.

  54. Documentation:

  57. There is no new documentation for PasTeX 1.4. The documentation is still
  58. for PasTeX 1.3. One exception: There is an up to date documentation for
  59. SpecialHost. The SpecialHost documentation is found in the
  60. TeX:src/SpecialHost/Docs directory. It's mostly in german, but as an sample
  61. it should also help non german speakers.

  63. Because of the lack of documentation, use these hints to find out (some of)
  64. the features of the drivers:
  65.  
  66.  o Call "ShowDVI help" and press RETURN.
  67.    So you get a list of all possible command line switches.
  68.    (You can save ever used switches in the ENV:SHOWDVI variable)
  69.  
  70.  o Start ShowDVI and do a 'save config' (AMIGA-W).
  71.    Now have a look into the file TeX:config/ShowDVI.config.
  72.    There are some nice config features like 'maximal-dvibuff-size'.

  74.  o Call "DVIprint help" and press RETURN
  75.    So you get a list of all possible command line switches.
  76.    (You can save ever used switches in the ENV:DVIPRINT variable)

  78.  o Look into the files TeX:config/#?.fnt and use 'SnoopDos' to 
  79.    see, how the drivers do the font searching.

  81.  o One additional hint for SpecialHost: If you have some free bytes on
  82.    your hard disk, than use the "image on disk" transfer method. This
  83.    saves (especially with Postscript(R) pictures) much time.

  87. Further Development:

  90. PasTeX is dead? No! I hope not!
  91. It's true, that I have found more hobbies, than only the Amiga and so I
  92. don't have much time for my poor Amiga. But I still love the Amiga and
  93. think it's a great system.
  94.  
  95. But because I don't have much time for further development, I hope there
  96. will be some nice programers, who want improve my PasTeX version.
  97. So I release the complete source.
  98.  
  99. But 1000 and one new PasTeX version would confuse the TeX users. So it
  100. would be good, if there will be a managing system, so that the improvements
  101. will be centered into one version.
  102.  
  103. Maybe a mailing list would be such a managing system? Or a alt.* newsgroup?

  105. If there are questions about the source, I will try to answer them, but
  106. I've not so much time, so I can't guarantee, that I will respond to
  107. every question.

  115. Most visible change from older PasTeX versions is the new directory structure
  116. for fonts, macros and the pool file. Fonts now under TeX:fonts/ (fontmetric
  117. files .../tfm, pk-files .../pk/<mode-name>), and macros now under TeX:inputs
  118. instead of TeX:macros. The pool-file is no longer under TeX:, now it has it's
  119. own directory TeX:pool.

  131. HWGPOST:
  132. --------

  134. Thanks to a special permission from the author Heinz Wrobel, this CD-ROM
  135. distribution includes HWGPOST, an improved post.library that is used by
  136. SpecialHost to give PostScript compatibility to ShowDVI and DVIprint.
  137. The following files were taken from the HWGPOST beta 6 distribution:

  139.  - doc/HWGPOST/README.FIRST
