  29. Welcome to 3D-Win, SPEA's 3D viewer for Windows! 
  30. This software is simple to use and offers a number of attractive 
  31. features:

  33. - fast import of DWG, DXF and 3DS constructions
  34. - layer manipulation (AutoCAD 12)
  35. - various rendering methods (Gouraud, Phong etc.) per mouse click
  36. - view manipulation per slider or mouse
  37. - view export to AutoCAD
  38. - WALK and TEACH animations
  39. - Flic file creation
  40. - integrated toolbar for fast function access
  41. - extensive 3D-Win online help

  45. 1.2 System Requirements
  46. -----------------------

  48. (a) Boards
  49. The 3D-Win driver is hardware independant - it can therefore be
  50. used with any Windows accelerator! 
  51.  
  52. (b) PC + Memory
  53. To use AutoCAD and BigFocus effectively you will need a large amount of
  54. memory and a large Windows swap file. Special information on this topic
  55. is described in the AutoCAD for Windows documentation and in the
  56. corresponding Autodesk forum in CompuServe.

  58. (c) Windows
  59. The current version of this software is for Windows 3.1x and Windows for 
  60. Workgroups only.

  62. 1.3  Software Registration
  63. --------------------------

  65. This software MUST be registered for use.
  66.  
  67. Registration information is automatically shown on the screen. It fills out
  68. the enclosed form REGISTER.TXT which can then be used to register the
  69. software (please refer to that file for details).

  73. 2.  Installation
  74. ================
  75.  
  76.   1. Put the MediaGallery CD in your CD drive.
  77.  
  78.   2. Start Windows and the Program Manager.
  79.  
  80.   3. Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run'.
  81.  
  82.   4. Change to the ...\SPEA\PRODUKTE\SOFTWARE\3DWIN directory and select the 
  83.      3D-Win installation program SETUP.EXE.
  84.  
  85.   5. Click on 'OK' and follow the instructions on the screen. The 
  86.      installation routine will decompress and copy various files onto your 
  87.      harddisk.

  93. 3.1  AutoCAD 13 Limitations
  94. ---------------------------
  95. It was not possible to accomodate for the large number of structural
  96. changes to AutoCAD 13 before this software release. For this reason
  97. there are a number fo small limitations for AutoCAD 13 users:
  98.  
  99. - DWGs can not be directly imported from AutoCAD 13 sessions
  100.   (save the DWG and then import with the menu item 'Open')
  101. - Layer manipulation ist currently not possible
  102.  
  103. We expect to be able to solve these problems with the next software
  104. release.

  106. 3.2. Colour Depth
  107. -----------------
  108.  
  109. For 3D-Win, a Windows display driver with at least 8 bit colour depth
  110. (256 colours) is required.

  113. 4    Troubleshooting
  114. ====================
  115.  
  116. Problem:
  117. 3D-Win reports that it can not find various files.
  118.  
  119. Solution:
  120. Check the file W3DVIEW.INI file in your Windows directory.
  121. It will contain the following section:
  122.  
  123. [viewer]
  124. ....
  125. startdir=c:\viewer
  126. acaddir=c:\acadwin
  127. acad13dir=c:\acadwin
  128. ....
  129. Acad13=1
  130.  
  131. whereby the path (C:\VIEWER in this example) must correspond to your 
  132. installation target directory. Alter or add the entries if necessary.
  133. If you are using AutoCAD 12 then the entry Acad12=1 must be present
  134. (and likewise Acad13=1 if you are using AutoCAD 13).

  136. Problem:
  137. 3D-Win doesn't display the toolbar or status bar.
  138.  
  139. Solution:
  140. Check the file W3DVIEW.INI file in your Windows directory.
  141. It will contain the following section:

  143. [viewer]
  144. ....
  145. Toolbar=0
  146. Statusbar=0
  147. ....
  148.  
  149. Check the entries and set them to 1 in order to activate the elements.
