328In cerebral arteriography, a catheter is manipulated up through the major arteries of the trunk and into the carotid (vertebral) artery. Once the catheter is in place, dye, or contrast medium, is injected through it. The dye outlines arteries not normally seen in x-ray imaging and helps to reveal abnormalities or obstructions.
