Wearing special glasses, so-called shutter glasses, the viewer is shown a picture. The glasses cut up the field of vision of one eye into fractions of a second while allowing the other eye to receive the picture information. In the brain these unsynchronized visual impressions are digested as a three-dimensional picture. This method is employed today to produce stereograms in some virtual reality systems.
