- Perfect Pitch Enhancer
- V1.1
- By Steven Selick
-
-
- This program has been placed in the public domain by the
- author in the hopes that people will be able to develop their
- sense of pitch. Please send me e-mail and tell me what you think,
- and what your scores are! I'd love to hear of any ideas on
- improving the program, and I will help you out if you are having
- troubles getting it running on your midi system.
-
- The main goal of the perfect pitch enhancer is to develope
- your sense of pitch over the full range of the average 5 octave
- synthesizer keyboard range. The computer will choose a note within
- your given range, and it will play it on a SEPARATE machine from
- the keyboard that you are using for input. Then you must search
- for the note that the computer played. Simple enough, however you
- are not supposed to be able to hear the notes you play. Only what
- the computer plays. The midi setup is generally simple. You plug
- the MIDI OUT of your controller keyboard into the MIDI IN of the
- computer. You then plug the MIDI OUT of the computer into the MIDI
- IN of the sound module that you are going to use to play the
- sounds. This can sometimes be accomplished with one machine if you
- can turn local keyboard control OFF.
-
- I have been able to do the entire range of the keyboard in
- under 1 second average for 300 tries. This is considered by most
- to be outrageous. My girlfriend does one octave in about 1.8
- seconds. She is a violin player though. I would like to hear
- anything that people have to say. Would you like to see graphs?
- What would be a useful graph? Please drop me an e-mail and tell me
- what you think of the program, and what your scores have been. I
- am very interested in what other people think. My internet address

- The only real difference in v1.1 is that I had lost the source
- code to much of the later developments in 1.0, and had to re-
- invent the wheel, so to speak, to be able to move on. It has also
- been re-compiled with GFA basic v3.5, so it may be a bit faster. I
- also corrected a little problem with the interval counters that
- was giving slightly wrong results. That works fine now. By the way, the
- weird mouse thing where it switches to a hand is really annoying. If
- anyone knows how to fix this (I used the on menu gosub function in the
- manual) please e-mail me.
-
- Enjoy!
