- I have been told that in new versions of Blue Lightning there is an easter egg
- --- if you start at level LIFE and hit the B button (as opposed to the A

- I have purchased the new game gauntlet III. Being a gauntlet player from day
- one,(starting with the arcade version, then the original ST format, then
- Gauntlet II for the ST, and now III for c critic for the present version for
- the Lynx. The game is totally unlike I or II. In the game you have a
- seperate screen for your inventory. I much preferred the original way of
- dealing with potions and food. I do not want an adventure game I want a quick
- arcade game and I think the game slows down to much by switching screens. I
- also feel that III is too slow. I thought the original gauntlet for the ST
- was also too slow. I had wished that III would s as quick as gauntlet II was
- for the ST, but it seems that is (it) is pretty slow. Also the sound effects
- leave alot to be ddesired. I always liked the "Pong" when you shot the
- potion, I have yet to hear a good effect in the Lynx version. I have only
- bbeen through level 8 and I have heard the same song the whole wway through. I
- am really hoping for a good game for the Lynx b but so far I have bought all
- the cartriges and I still think the only one worth purchasing is Gates of
- Zendocon. Please tell me how far yyou have gone in Gauntlet III and let me

- I was really disappointed that there are no digitized voices saying, "Wizard
- needs food badly" or the like. That was always fun! The sound effects are
- dismal, and game play is nothing like the originals, altho it is quite
- difficult so far.
-
- I think Chip's is the best game yet, altho GOZ has the best sound and visual

- Hello to all Lynx owners! I have some great info that you all may find very
- exciting since you will be able to show off the graphics power of the Lynx
- even more. I have found the secret level on Chip;s Challenge!! It has nothing
- to do with the game, however, it is incredible!!! I will not say anything as
- to what the level is, however, when you get there, wait a few seconds before
- you freak out, there is nothing wrong with the Lynx - you will see after a
- couple of seconds what the level is. Once you realize what is happening on
- the screen, press the different buttons for more excitement (you'll get the
- hang of it, trust me!). In any case finding this Easter Egg what amazing, and
- above all, it shows off the Lynx even more! Well enough with the suspense -
- the code you need to get to the secret level is "MAND". Try it out and leave
- me email as to what you think of this Easter Egg!!! If anyone else out there
- has any other Easter Eggs (I have a feeling that ElectroCop has one (it seems
- to me that it a good candidate for an Easter Egg due to the nature of the
- game)), please inform the Lynx owners... Enjoy, and I hope you find this
- Easter Egg as much fun as I found it! I'll be calling back later tonight to

- R.MUNOZ: Rats -- I found MAND also, and I was all set to post it here. You can

- Level 25 is one of the levels I don't have the pass word for any more.
- Leave the pass word and I'll see if I can remember how I did it. Level 52
- is the level where you have to ride across the magnetic pad underneath the
- mouth. Wait for the large hole in the bug pattern and then walk with the bugs
- until you hit the one square magnatic floor. Run backwards into it so you
- bounce two times and then run out the side you were on first. Now go back to
- the other side and get the chip in the closing walls. Then push the block
- next to the pool up against the top wall and out between the large pool and
- the little pool thats in the wall. Next go under the blue bouncing ball and
- push the block between it and the button straight across into the large pool.
- Now you can go out the door you came in and ride the magnetic floor over to
- the first side. Walk around get the chip above the exit, push the block in
- the water and leave! Hope thats not to much help!
- I was showing some guy my Lynx the other day and he said,"Thats the one
- the kid takes in the bathroom....thats great!" Well thats not word for word
- but pretty close. I think Chips Challenge is probable better for you then
- half the stuff they teach you in school anyway. I was always told school
- offered a range of classes so a person could be well rounded when he entered
- the real world. I'd rather be the best at one thing then average at
- everything. I think education should teach the individual how to remain an
- individual instead of how to conform to standards set by other average people.
- What does that have to do with the Lynx Ad, nothing at all but I think the
- commercials great and doesn't corrupt kids at all! Until later....

- B.King8,
- All you have to do in level 47 is come up from the bottom. Just aim for
- the square on the left it lines up with the center (you probable already made
- it?) Level 48 is to hard to explain but practice makes perfect so keep at it.
- You have to keep moving on the magnetic floor so that you hit the transporters
- at a different angle then normal. Go through the middle thief straight below
- you at the start, after that experience wil teach you. Use the force Luke!
- I think Atari should be using the STe for a developers kit. What
- computer company doesn't have the faith in it's own computers to use them. If
- it was my company, I'd make developer kits for as many computers as possible
- starting with my own. I'd sell them just above cost and hire people to
- provide technical assistance. Then set up a system to publish programmers
- games for a percentage that would help support the system and keep it intact
- for future use. The most expensive computers in the world are only worth the

- The latest (nov 90) Video Games & Computer Entertainment, says the following:
-
- In the last issue we printed a code (MAND) for a secret level (level 145) in
- Chip's Challange.
- Well, Doug Shannon of Sunnyvale California has another one.
-
- Level 34 called Cypher (using code NQFI) holds a secret.
- If you can draw a map of the level you'll notice each room is a letter.
- The first two lines of letters tell us codes to other levels,
- while thethird row, spelling JHEN, gives us the code for a secret level,
- level 146.
-
-
- Hope this isn't old news.

- To get a 5 vertical Klax do this.
- Get two tiles of one color in one bin and two tiles of a different color in
- another. Choose on of the two colors and 'save' three tiles of that color on
- your paddle. You can do this by dropping the tiles of another color, or by
- throwing them back on the belt. Get the three tiles stacked TOGETHER on the
- paddle. Having other colors in between will slow you down.
- Now wait for a tile of the OTHER color. As soon as you get it, drop it on
- top of the stack of two and then AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE more over the other
- bin and drop the three other tiles on top of the two you already have. Do
- this while the 3-vertical KLAX is being scored. When the game finishes giving
- you your 50 points it will look for other KLAX . You will then get 30000
- points for your 5 KLAX.
- This is great for points waves and you can 'quickly' stack up millions of
- points.

- While I have been having tremendous fun playing with the Lynx and the games
- that I currently have (California Games, Electro Cop, & Blue Lightning), the
- Comlynx connnection adds a whole new dimension to game play. Of the games I
- have only California Games supports Comlynx, so that is the only one I've had
- occasion to go head-to-head with another player with.
-
- Let me tell you that after a bit of play where each player is trying to top
- the score of the other, the emphasis starts to shift from "scoring the most
- points" to "get the other guy"!
-
- Last night, Kirk Osterman and I met in a suburban shopping mall and sat down
- in the common food area at a table. We were going head-to-head with the BMX
- and Surfing competitions. It was a riot. And we created quite a stir too.
- Many folks would stop by and look over our shoulders. In fact, one of the
- other people was someone I already know, from of all places, here on GEnie!
- It was our own Gordon Meyer (GRMEYER) and his lady friend. I don't know what
- kind of impression I made on him, but he was sure impressed with the Lynx!
-
- Anyway, after thrashing Kirk soundly point-wise in surfing, we started to
- attack each other, just trying to wipe the other guy out. It was crazy!
- Those little surfers sure do spin nice when you hit them just right!
-
- Another good thing about Comlynx play is that you learn from the other player.
- Kirk was doing about 200 - 400 points per game on Surfing, but I gave him some
- pointers about some of the things I had figured out about the game and before
- long he was scoring over 1000 per game. I'm going to have to watch out for
- him. By the way, I pulled in my best score to date last night on Surfing.
- 3745!!!

- Here's another 6000+ score on surfing. Actually 6985 to be exact. Also, how
- do 740 on BMX and ~15,000 on Half Pipe rank compared to some of the expert

-
- 740 is pretty good for BMX. My high is the middle 600s.

- 32,000 on Half-Pipe is VERY good. I will check with the testers to

- On level Zeta, there is a round ball shaped thing that moves up and down
- the right edge of the screen on the fortress. Follow this ball thing up

- I only have cali. games right now but there seems to be another problem oblem
- well at least on my unit. When Surfing if you go too fast your guy
- dissapears. You know when you're gonna dissapear when your elbow and the back
- of your board are the only things left on the screen. When that hap
- happens build up a little more speed and hit the air. the points will tal
- tally, the water will spray when your board hits the water. The only thing i
- thing is that you will not be able to see yourself or the board. This also
- happens if you ride in the tube for 69 seconds( Or from the beginning of the
- run until the clock says 21 sec.).
- Besides that my highs are 805 BMX, ~6000 Surfing, 28,000 half-pipe, and

- Recently had an opportunity to play multi-player California Games with some
- fellow Lynx owners (hard to find here in Arizona) We really had a blast
- playing three and four players. Three player games work great, but four
- players was difficult to get started without crashing the system, but was ok
- once we got past the opening screen. Gameplay was very smooth with 3 players,
- but 4 player surfing was a little jerky. One question--in multi-player
- surfing, if you run out of lives you can scroll your screen back and forth and
- watch the other players, instead of just staring at the water. Why wasn't
- this option programmed in BMX?

- I think 3 & 4 player action was a little jerky because the link software in
- California Games was really only designed for 2 players although you can
- "trick" it into letting up to four people play. I think John Townsend
- mentioned this a long time ago. It seems as if the networking software is
- built into each game cart that needs it, so if a new Comlynx protocol is
- developed they can use it without having to change the actual Lynx hardware.

- The comlunx is great with Gauntlet! It really makes the game. I just got
- through playing 3-way Gauntlet with some friends and I can really see the

- Had an interesting experience with the COMLYNX cable that I thought I would
- pass on in case it would help others.
-
- We had a real bad time getting either of our two cables to work. You know,
- California Games and Gauntlet both would not "see" the other machine. We
- played all sorts of games with the power-on timing between machines, but ..
-
- Anywho, I took a continuity tester the leads. They're stereo plugs, mini
- sized, meaning you've got the tip, the ring below the tip, and the lower ring
- (if you're holding a plug up). Interestingly, the tip is not continuous
- through the wire; only the lower and higher rings are. (Well, big surprise ...
- it's a two wire cable). Still, 'twas a little eerie seeing tip disconnected.
-
- I found that the plugs were not seating fully due to the plastic molding
- halfway down the plug. They'd get most of the way in, but about 1/16th inch of
- the way home, they'd stop.
-
- They collide with the plug and plastic of the Lynx case.
-
- I took an Exacto blade and carefully trimmed about 1/8" off the plastic
- molding by the plug. So you know, the metal extends down that far, then
- expands outwards. I trimmed the plastic much as a pencil sharpener would have.
-
- Surprise, surprise, surprise ... next time I tried Gauntlet, it worked fine
- the first try ... and it had never worked before. Ditto for Cal Games.
-
- We had a disk cable maker extend the plastic a little too far on the GCR cable
- mold, and the solution is the exact same. (That prevented the GCR cable from
- getting far enough into the 14-pin disk drive socket).
-
- So, if your cable is flaky and you don't mind violating your warranty (grin),
- try trimming off the first 1/8th of plastic completely and tapering it back
- from there. Just might do the trick.
-

- Well, if he won't tell you about it, I will:
-
-
- Level #28: TRYX
-
- In this level, the "floor" restricts the ship to the top half of the play-
- field. However, there is a "hidden feature" or "easter-egg" which allows you
- to access another gate "below the floor". Here's how you find it:
-
- Immediately put on your shields and move the ship down, to kill the alien
- tanks. Then, start dropping bombs (using your shields when necessary to kill
- newly-appearing aliens). You will notice at one point the bombs appear to go
- through the floor. At this location is an invisible "hole" through which you
- can fly your ship. It will probably take a few tries before you get through,
- because the hole is rather small. Once you get through, you maneuver through a
- couple of minor obstacles and then find the gate. It leads you to the "easter-
- egg level", whose name is " ". (Four blank spaces: this level, therefore,
- can't be accessed directly as the others can because its name cannot be
- entered.) The easter-egg level is fun. It also gives you all four alien
- helpers.

- is the background for most of the level a MANDELBROT SET image... but the
- little round monsters behave in a set pattern... the pattern is the old
- computer simulation called 'LIFE'. There are many versions of 'LIFE'

- on your home machine. I just thought it was cute that there is a LIFE program
- on the LYNX now as well. It is also interesting to note how FAST it operates.
- It is running faster than the fastest LIFE version I have for either my ST or
- MAC luggable computers, AND there is a lot of blasting and what not going on
- as well.
