  2. Attached Files

  4. Attached Files allows you to send and receive binary files via electronic
  5. mail.  You can send spreadsheets, scripts, or text files to any GEnie
  6. user, using an error-checking protocol.

  8. Use the Send (Upload) Attached Files to transmit a file using XMODEM, use
  9. the Receive (Download) Attached Files to receive a file using XMODEM,
  10. YMODEM, or ZMODEM.  The Receive Attached Files option allows for batch
  11. downloads and can download up to 16 files during one session.

  13. You will receive a normal GE Mail message that will tell you that you have
  14. an attached file waiting, if a user has sent you one.

  16. Attached Files is an easy, fast way to send data (of any sort) to another
  17. GEnie user.
  18.  
  19. To upload an Attached File just enter M200 or MAIL at any GEnie main menu 
  20. prompt.  From the following menu select option 11 to upload your file.
  21. GEnie will ask you to enter the name you would like to use for the file,
  22. and then it will say READY FOR INPUT.  At this point you should tell your
  23. telecommunications program to send (upload) a binary file using the XMODEM
  24. or XMODEM (CRC) protocol.  When the upload is complete GEnie will ask you 
  25. to enter a RETURN.  Then it will ask for the GE Mail address of the person
  26. that you would like to have receive the file; if there was a problem with
  27. the upload then just enter QUIT at the TO: prompt.  It will also prompt you 
  28. for any addresses that you would like to have receive a carbon copy of the
  29. letter.  The subject field is automatically entered for you, and will show
  30. the filename of the program you are sending.  After you have entered this
  31. information GEnie will prompt you for a message to be sent along with the
  32. letter as a GE Mail message.  If you wish to enter a letter you can do so
  33. just by entering the text (be sure to press RETURN at the end of each line,
  34. since there is no "word wrap" function available).  When you are ready to
  35. send the letter just enter *S as the first two characters after a line
  36. prompt.  GEnie will give you a confirmation notice that it has sent the 
  37. letter.

  39. To receive (download) an Attached File in GEnie mail, enter M200 or MAIL
  40. at any GEnie main menu prompt.  From the following menu select option 12.
  41. GEnie will display a list of the Attached Files that are currently in your
  42. GE Mailbox, and ask you which you would like to download.  Just enter the
  43. Queue number (from the left hand side of the list) for the one that you want.
  44. GEnie will then give you a list of choices for file transfer protocols 
  45. similar to those that you would see in a software library on GEnie.  Please
  46. make sure to select one that your telecommunications package will support.
  47. Once you have done this GEnie will give you a prompt that says "File is
  48. ready.  Start your receive file."  At this point you should tell your 
  49. telecommunications program to receive (download) a file (unless you are using
  50. ZMODEM which will start automatically).  Please make sure to tell your
  51. software to receive the file with the same protocol that GEnie is sending it.

  53. Remember that Sending and Receiving GE Mail Attached Files is not included
  54. in the GEnie*Basic Services and you will be billed the standard GEnie Value 
  55. Services rates for your time using these functions.
