It did not have to be perfect, but only readable, because they could not read 'ALIEN' documentation and threw the programs away, even if it is/was a good product. And that, even if they can not read the docs, is a waste. So here it is, the AS-IS-TRANSLATOR, which will not make a perfect translation for you, but with a little (lot) imagination, you can read most of the docs. Even when a strange word is not translated, the only thing to do, is get a dictionary, look it up, type the translation, and it is known the next time that word should be translated. All verbs are impossible to translate, so the best thing to do is : enter the complete translated verb for all foreign verbs, and think of the right person. | From version 2.12 AIT can use diferent acceptable characters to translate for every language. See that section for more information. AIT stands for : AsIsTranslator. ┌──────────────┐ 2.00 │ INSTALLATION │ └──────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────── Previous users should run the old AIT with /CFG to obtain the old default settings of AIT before copying the new AIT. Copy AIT.EXE to your dos-path. Be sure, when updating, that the file AIT.CFG is available in the same directory as AIT.EXE. Copy the files AIT-xxx.@DAT and AIT-xxx.@IDX anywhere but keep in mind where you copied them to. When you start AIT for the first time, you will go directly to the INSTALL-MENU. THEN the installation is completed. ┌───────────────┐ 3.00 │ EXECUTING AIT │ Start AIT. └───────────────┴─────────────────────────────────────────────── Usage: AIT {text-filename} {options} If no text-filename is given AIT will ask it later (if needed). Filenames with the extension .EXE, .COM and .@SYS are not allowed. 3.10 Command-Line parameters. ──────────────────────── AIT can work without any parameters, you can use the defaults of AIT. But...... Not all options can be changed while you execute AIT. for example : the learn option. A complete list of options and switches follows : {TEXT-FILENAME} ─────────────── You can give a text-filename (including path) to let AIT work with that text-file. If you do not give a filename here, AIT will ask for it when it is needed. Also, you can change this name inside AIT. Keep in mind, that this filename must have a different extension than the extension for output-files AIT will create. { /? } or { ? } ─────────────── You will see the internal HELP here, and AIT will stop when the HELP is displayed. { /Uxxx } ───────── If you supply /Uxxx (where xxx is the dictionary type) you can use an other dictionary. Example : AIT /UE2N will use the AIT-E2N.DAT and AIT-E2N.IDX dictionary files for this RUN. { /L } ────── If you supply the /L, AIT will ask for the translation of 'alien' words. These words will (can) be included in the current dictionary for future usage. So, the next time, this word is found, it will be translated. The default of the output word is equal to the input-word. If a word is found you can do the following : - Enter a translation (just type it, the first character you will type, clears the current word). - Press an arrow key and you can edit the current translation (which will be equal at first). If the translation is equal, and you do not want to be prompted for it again you have to change the word. Just give <left arrow> and the same character, but UPPER CASE, and the word will be accepted in the dictionary, for future usage. - You press <ENTER>, and this word will be kept as it is, and the next time, it will appear again. If you do not know the translation yet, you can also do the same, find it later, and use the EDITOR to add it. Then you return to the TRANSLATOR and these words will be translated. The best way to use the /L option is : - Either a very good memory or a good dictionary nearby. Also it might be, you will see if you use it, that not always the best word to translate is that one you know, but something else. Example : to RUN should be in dutch : Rennen (nice). french: Galoper (nice). German: Rennen (nice). If you translated this already wrong, you will not understand this. So change this with the EDITOR later, because all words will be translated wrong. Use a '(xxx) for a second possible translation or a slash '/'. Thew whole translation can be maximum 30 characters long. { /LA } ─────── Use this option to add all words to the dictionary as they are. The code will be '?' so you can change these words later. The new words will get a special color (set in the installation) Later you can use the editor to make an export of all words with a code '?' and edit the list with your favorite editor. Then you can import that list again. { /N } ────── If you supply /N no output-file will be made. This is useful if you want to add words to the dictionary only, not to see the translation of a text-file. Only needed (optional) with the TRANSLATOR menu option. { /Cx } ─────── The parameter /Cx will let you use a different Learn code when you are in the TRANSLATOR menu. All added words will get a status-code of 'L' but you can overrule this by using this option. The 'x' is the alternate code. { /CFG } ──────── You can do this to use the same default settings again. A file called AIT.CFG will be created in the same directory as where AIT.EXE is located. When you enter the INSTALL menu or the COLOR menu, and there is a AIT.CFG in the same directory as AIT.EXE, you can use this file containing these defaults. All you have to do is press ENTER at all questions. You can use this file for new versions of AIT.EXE or use it to restore previously made settings when you made a mistake. { /MONO } ───────── When you have a Monochrome monitor or want to change to monochrome color-settings you can use this option to start AIT with the preset color settings. You can also change the colors in AIT with the color-menu, then, you don't need this option. Use it, when you made a mess of your color-settings and can not see what is happening on your screen. { /COLOR } ────────── When you use this option, AIT will work with the default colors set by the author. This is useful when you made a mess of the colors, and lose information because you changed them to invisible colors. This option is also available in the Color-Menu. { /FILE } ───────── /FILE will create an export-file with the name EXP-ALL.AIT in the current directory when you translate a document. ALL FOUND (available in the dictionary) words will be added in this export-file (NORMAL EXPORT type) for the given text-file. - Later you can import this export-file in an empty database to create a dictionary containing ONLY the words which are available in the given document. - There will be a lot of duplicates in this special export-file. ┌───────────────┐ 4.00 │ INSTALL MENU │ change the default settings of AIT. └───────────────┴─────────────────────────────────────────────── When you obtain a new version of AIT, you need to install AIT once before you can work with AIT. You also need to use this option when you want to use a different dictionary or change the output-extension or something else. The INSTALL menu has two functions : - First-time installation. - Change dictionary and options while executing AIT. When you first start AIT you will go to the install-menu automatically. ┌─────────────────────┐ 4.10 │ INSTALLATION OF AIT │ └─────────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────── When you have created a CFG-file (AIT.CFG) and if it is available in the same directory as AIT.EXE, AIT will ask if you want to use this file to change the settings or not. When you press 'Y', the default settings will be equal to the settings found in this file. When you press 'N' or when the file AIT.CFG is not found in the same directory as AIT.EXE, AIT will use the current settings of AIT as a default. Full path for the AIT Data-directory. ─────────────────────────────────────── This directory is used for ALL dictionary files and also the export files. This is the only place where you can change these directories. You can press <ENTER> to keep the current directory or you can give {drive:} {path} to change this. When you enter a NEW directory, AIT will ask you whether to create this directory, or to enter it again. Dictionary type. ──────────────── Then, you have to enter the dictionary type you want to use as default. This can be English to dutch, or the opposite, or spanish to german, or any other. The dictionary does not have to be available, AIT will create it if it is not available. ( E2N, N2E, N2D or any other). Change translated words to UPPER CASE (Y/N). ─────────────────────────────────────────── When you enter 'Y' AIT will show you all translated words in UPPER CASE, and the rest in lower case. When you enter 'N', AIT will try to keep the current typecast as it is. This is for the LISTER and the TRANSLATOR and for the screen and all output-files. Output-file extension. ────────────────────── Next, you have to enter the (valid) extension, for all output-Files. The output-file will have the same name as the input-file, except for the extension, so MANUAL.DOC will be translated to MANUAL.NED if you have entered NED here. The extensions EXE/COM/SYS are not allowed. Ignore first character on line when word wrapping (or empty). ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Sometimes when you read a doc, a '|' or anything else is shown at the start of the line, to indicate that this line is new or changed in that document. When the intelligent word wrap of ait is used, you can ignore this character (only when it is the first on this line). Try it out on the @AITDOC and you will see the results. After that, the install is completed and you will see the result, either successful or an error-message. ┌───────────────┐ 4.20 │ CHANGE COLORS │ Change the colors of AIT └───────────────┴─────────────────────────────────────────────── 4.21 Function. ───────── You can change the colors of AIT, using this option. Also for MONOCHROME or BLACK AND WHITE users this menu has a purpose. When you have a color-monitor : - You can select the preset colors (start-up colors) of AIT or customize the colors to the colors you want. When you have a BLACK-AND-WHITE (MONOCHROME) monitor : - You can select the preset Monochrome settings of AIT or customize the colors to the colors you want: - Set colors to normal, high-lited, underlined, reversed and so on. ┌─────────────────┐ 4.22 │ MONOCHROME MODE │ └─────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────────── - When you use a monochrome screen or want monochrome colors you can select this option. You can later change them with the option 'Customize Colors' to your needs. (underlining, reversed display and so on). - No questions are asked, AIT will return to the previous menu. - When you selected invisible screen colors, you can reset AIT to work with the default-monochrome color-settings. ┌────────────────────┐ 4.23 │ DEFAULT COLOR MODE │ └────────────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────── - With this option, AIT will set AIT to work with the preset colors (a selection made by the author) but you can change them later with the option 'Customize Colors'. This can be useful also when you made a mistake by setting some colors to invisible color-settings and by this option, you make them visible again, but also to change them between a monochrome monitor and a Color Monitor. - No questions are asked, AIT will return to the previous menu. ┌──────────────────┐ 4.24 │ CUSTOMIZE COLORS │ └──────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────── - You can change the colors of AIT to your own need here : This is also useful for Monochrome users. When you have created a CFG-file (AIT.CFG) and if it is available in the current directory, AIT will ask if you want to use this file to change the colors (default your previous settings) or not. When you press 'Y', the default colors are the colors, found in this file. When you press 'N' or when the file AIT.CFG is not found in the current directory, AIT will use the current colors of AIT as a default. - You can change the colors AIT will use for display, the following types can be changed : - Color for Headers - Color for Frames - Color for Information - Color for Inputs - Color for Data - Color for Errors - Color for Busy (advised to use a flashing Color) - Color for Status - Color for lines and untranslated words (LIST and TRANSLATOR) - Color for translated words (LIST and TRANSLATOR) - Color for added words with code '/?' (LIST and TRANSLATOR) - Color for words not found (LIST and TRANSLATOR) - Color for wallpaper (background) - To change the colors, you can press <LEFT> (arrows) to decrement the foreground colors, <RIGHT> to increment foreground colors, <UP> to decrement the background colors and <DOWN> to increment the background colors. You can choose between 16 foreground colors and 8 background colors. The 9th and up (background) are in use for blinking colors. Pressing <ENTER> will use the selected color. - When you press <ESC> it will respond as if you pressed <ENTER> to quit this option, you have to press <ENTER> for all colors to return to the main-menu. ┌────────────────────┐ 4.30 │ CHANGE ACCEPTTABLE │ └────────────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────── | You can change the characters you want to accept in every word | to be translated. | Example : if you want to translate Don't (D O N ' T) you could | install AIT to translate the ' within the words. | You can also exclude that character. You can change the table | in this menu. All characters can be included except the space | and the point '.'. | | The Menu | -------- | All highlited characters are selected, and the dark characters | excluded. Use the arrows to position the cursor, and press | <ENTER> to toggle (change between select and deselect). | When you press <ESC> you will return to the main-menu. | When you have a mouse, you can use the left button to select | and the right button to quit. | | The language support-file | ------------------------- | When you use this option, a file will be created by AIT, even | when you do not change anything. | When you delete the file, AIT will use the default settings | for that language. You need this file only when you want | different characters to be translated than the ones you | need normally. | All translatable characters will be stored in this file. | The file will be stored in the AIT-database-file-directory. | The filename is : | AIT-xxx.ACC | Te xxx is the same as the dictionary you use now. | After pressing <ESC> the acceptable characters will be updated | automaticcally and the file will be written. ┌────────────┐ 5.00 │ THE EDITOR │ maintenance of all dictionaries. └────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5.01 Function. ───────── With the editor, - You can edit the words in the current dictionary, change or add words to it. - Improve translations you have made which were incorrect or incomplete. - Import external dictionaries (made by others) or export them. Also export-files can be made to make a backup-copy of your dictionary. - Sometimes, you enter a correct translation for a sentence, but it might be wrong for most other sentences. You could add a slash followed by the second translation. Also, you might have given a translation for a miss-spelled word, which should be deleted. That is what the editor is made for. WARNING : You need to set the current dictionary file first by changing the default parameters. Dictionary (information). ───────────────────────── On the right, you can see the current dictionary type. This name reflects to the dictionary files below. Example : - E2N points to the dictionary files AIT-E2N.DAT / AIT-E2N.IDX and also to the IMPORT and EXPORT file EXP-E2N.AIT. Action (information). ───────────────────── When you have made a menu-choice, you have information concerning the current choice, you made, like : 'INPUT NEW WORD' You can see what you are doing, because the screen is identical edit 'EDIT CURRENT WORD', or some others. Message (information). ────────────────────── When the menu-choice has been performed, sometimes, you will see additional information, like ALREADY EXIST' or 'NO CURRENT' which means, that there is no current word. Words/Free (information). ───────────────────────── Here, you will see 2 counters : - The first will display the amount of records currently in the Dictionary. - The second will display the free (deleted) words in the Dictionary. This means, when it is a large number, you should reorganize the dictionary, but when new words are entered in the dictionary, this space will be used first, before adding and increasing the disk-space to add a word. First character or Arrow keys. ────────────────────────────── You can execute a function by entering the highlighted character any any line of the menu or use the arrow keys to go <UP> or <DOWN>. At the sub-menu's you can return to the main-menu by pressing <ESC>. If nothing happens, check the message, for information. You can also work with the mouse (if available) on the menu's. Select the choice with the left button, the right button simulates <ESC>. ┌─────────────────────┐ 5.10 │ EDITOR MENU OPTIONS │ └─────────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────── 5.11 Add a new word. ─────────────── Add a new word to the dictionary. You are prompted for the search word, where you enter the Input- word. (the word to be translated). Then enter the translation (the word it will be translated to) and finally you have to enter the Status-Code. The status-code can be used for search purposes. You can give any letter here. Example : - N = Default dictionary words, or updates by me. - L = Added by using the /L Learn option. - A = Added by using the /A LearnAll option. - ? = Added by using ALIEN import, by /L or /LA when input and output word are equal. The search-word must be ONE word, and the translation can consist of more words. (maximum 30 characters). 5.12 Change the current word. ──────────────────────── With this, you can change the currently displayed word. You can NOT change the input-word. You can change (add) a translation and the code. If you abort this, there will not be a current word, and nothing changes. 5.13 Delete the current word. ──────────────────────── You are NOT asked for the input-word. You confirm by pressing 'Y'. 5.14 Next word. ────────── You will get the next word in the dictionary. If you pass the last word in the dictionary, you will get a warning, and the following word will be the first available. 5.15 Previous word. ────────────── You will get the previous word in the dictionary. If you pass the first word in the dictionary you will get a warning, and the following word will be the last available. 5.16 Find A Word. ──────────── Here you are prompted for the EXACT written input-word to search for. The case is not important. If found, it will appear on your screen. 5.17 Search (Partial) a word. ──────────────────────── Here you are prompted for the first part of a input-word to search for. You will get, if available, the first match, and the following matches can be obtained by giving 'Next word'. If no match was found, the next in the alphabet will appear. 5.20 Utilities. ────────── Here you will see the next MENU containing several other utilities. 5.21 Reorganize Dictionary. ────────────────────── You can reorganize the current dictionary to gain speed and keep it as small as possible (disk-usage). The free records will be removed, to gain disk-space, the dictionary is sorted again, to gain speed. It is done by exporting and importing the dictionary again, because other options use too much disk-space (when you have large dictionaries). The free disk-space that you need is about the space you need to create an export-file. 5.22 Delete all by code. ─────────────────── You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be deleted (stupid option) or enter a code. Example : - You want to delete all Default words, then you enter 'N'. After that, the next question is : - Ask first <Y/N> ? - when you enter 'N', all selected words will be deleted. - When you enter 'Y', all selected words will appear on at the time and you can select whether you want to delete them by pressing 'Y', Skip this word, by pressing 'N' or press 'Q' to quit to the MENU. - Last, You confirm this selection by pressing 'Y' or abort by pressing <ESC> and return to the MENU. 5.23 List words. ─────────── You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be listed or enter a code. Example : - You want to list all Default words, then you enter 'N'. You will get a listing of all selected words, including the translation and the code . After one screen, you can press <ENTER> for the next page, or <ESC> to abort the listing. When all words were displayed, or you gave <ESC>, you will see the amount of words, which were displayed. This list will be in alphabetical order of the input-word. 5.24 Change Code of Words. ───────────────────── You will be asked for the code to change. If you enter '*' all codes will be changed to an other code. If you press <ESC> you will return to the menu. Then you will be asked for the code you want to change the codes to. All characters except '*' are Allowed. Example : - You want to change the Learned words (/L) to Default words (N) then you enter 'L' for the first code and 'N' for the second. After that, the next question is : - Ask first <Y/N> ? - when you enter 'N', all selected words will be changed. - When you enter 'Y', all selected words will appear on at the time and you can select whether you want to change them by pressing 'Y' Skip this word, by pressing 'N' or press 'Q' to quit to the MENU. - Last, You confirm this selection by pressing 'Y' or abort by pressing <ESC> and return to the MENU. 5.25 Work status. ──────────── This menu will give you information concerning : - Needed when exporting (bytes). This is the maximum amount of diskspace to use, when AIT will export the current dictionary. This is displayed in bytes. - Drive number for files : All calculations , the export-files, the databases and so on will be placed on this drive. - Free disk space (bytes) : This displays the amount of free space in bytes on the Data disk, specified above. - Maximum records you can add: This displays the amount of records you can add before your disk is full. You need to add the number of records, which are displayed at : (extra to add). - Current amount of records : This should be the same as shown in AIT itself. - Deleted records (extra to add) : When you delete records, AIT will still use this space, for the next words you will add. When this is a high number you should use the Reorganise option to save disk-space. You have to press <ENTER> to continue, and return to the previous menu. 5.30 Export / Import. ──────────────── Here you will see the next MENU containing EXPORT/IMPORT options. 5.31 Export Words (Normal). ────────────────────── You can export the dictionary to a file to exchange them with other users of AIT, add them to another dictionary or just for back-up. Normal export will create a text-file containing : - the input-word added with spaces (30 characters UPPER CASE) - a space - the translation added with spaces (30 characters lower case) - a space - the Translation code (UPPER CASE). This export will take more disk-space than the compressed export but is easier to edit with a text-editor. You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be exported, or enter a code. Example : - You want to export all Default words, then you enter 'N'. Then you have to answer the next question : Enter Export-Type (E2N) : Just press <ENTER> for the default dictionary or enter another. The file with the Name EXP-xxx.AIT (where xxx = the type of the dictionary file will be written to the same directory where your dictionary located (current). All selected words, will be exported to this file. if the file exists, all old data will be lost. 5.32 Export Words (Compressed). ────────────────────────── You can export the dictionary to a file to exchange them with other users of AIT, add them to another dictionary or just for back-up. Compressed export will create a text-file containing : - the input-word without leading or trailing spaces (UPPER CASE) - a space - the translation without leading / trailing spaces (LOWER CASE) - a space - the Translation code (UPPER CASE). This export will take less disk-space than the normal export, but is not divided in colons, so editing it is more difficult. You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be exported, or enter a code. Example : - You want to export all Default words, then you enter 'N'. Then you have to answer the next question : Enter Export-Type (E2N) : Just press <ENTER> for the default dictionary, or enter another. The file with the Name EXP-xxx.AIT (where xxx = the type of the dictionary file) will be written to the same directory where your dictionary is located (current). All selected words, will be exported to this file. if the file exists, all old data will be lost. 5.33 Import new words. ───────────────── You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be imported, or enter a code. Example : - You want to import all Default words, then you enter 'N'. A new selection menu appears, you can select the following : - Only the Type of export is displayed and these are selectable. - <ESC> to abort this function. - See more. When you have a lot of export-files in your AIT- data directory, you can select this to select from the next 10 export-files. - Restart will start displaying the types from the beginning. The file with the Name EXP-xxx.AIT (where xxx = the type of the dictionary file will be searched for in the same directory where your dictionary is located (current) or is set for. All new, not yet inside the dictionary and with the correct code will be imported. All words, which already exist will be skipped. 5.34 Import words. ───────────── You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all words will be imported, or enter a code. Example : - You want to import all Default words, then you enter 'N'. A new selection menu appears, you can select the following : - Only the Type of export is displayed and these are selectable. - <ESC> to abort this function. - See more. When you have a lot of export-files in your AIT- data directory, you can select this to select from the next 10 export-files. - Restart will start displaying the types from the beginning. The file with the Name EXP-xxx.AIT (where xxx = the type of the dictionary file will be searched for in the same directory where your dictionary is located (current) or is set for. All words will be imported. When they are available in the dictionary, they will be overwritten. Use this option when updates were sent by me (or anyone else). 5.35 Reverse dictionary import. ────────────────────────── All words in the export-file will be added to the dictionary. The input-word will be made LOWER CASE, and the output-word UPPER CASE. And the output-word and input-word will be reversed. A new selection menu appears, you can select the following : - Only the Type of export is displayed and these are selectable. - <ESC> to abort this function. - See more. When you have a lot of export-files in your AIT- data directory, you can select this to select from the next 10 export-files. - Restart will start displaying the types from the beginning. This option is useful if you have a dictionary from a language to an other and you want to reverse it. Example : You have an English doc, translate it to dutch using the dictionary (E2N) You export this, and copy the export-file (EXP-E2N.AIT) to (N2E). Now set the current dictionary to (N2E), reverse import and you can translate dutch to english. - The translation will be split in pieces. All individual words will be added in the dictionary when they are separated with spaces, or with a slash (/). 5.36 Import words (ALIEN). ───────────────────── With this option, you can import an ALIEN dictionary. The filename for the import-file has to be the same as for the other import/export options. any text-file could be imported, but the format AIT uses is : - First on the line : the input-word (original language) - The rest on the line is used for the translation. - The Status-code will be an '?'. You will be asked for a code. If you enter '*' all NEW words will be imported, or enter a code. Example : - You want to import all Default words, then you enter 'N'. The file with the Name EXP-xxx.AIT (where xxx = the type of the dictionary file will be searched for in the same directory where your dictionary is located (current) or is set for. All NEW words will be imported. When they are available in the dictionary, they will NOT be overwritten. 5.99 Exit Editor. ───────────── After closing all files, you will return to the MAIN-MENU. ┌────────────┐ 6.00 │ THE LISTER │ List files in your own language. └────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────── 6.01 Function. ───────── With the Lister, you can display a foreign document in your own language, but only if you have set the dictionary type to the correct dictionary. 6.10 Selecting a text-file. ────────────────────── The lister will use the current dictionary to translate any document directly on your screen. No output-file will be created because this is only a list. - First, you have to select the filename. When you have previously entered a filename or entered it from the dos-prompt. The default filename is THAT file, otherwise the default filename is empty. - You can now enter the name you want (including path) or enter a filename-Wildchart (with * and ?). When you entered a wildchart or left it empty, a selection screen appears, where you can select the file you want from a list. Select the file using the cursor-key's or use a MOUSE (if available). You can press <ESC> to return to the filename prompt. At the filename-prompt you can press <ESC> to return to the MAIN-MENU. You can change the sub-directories, where after a new list of files appears. - When you want to select a file from another drive (B: or E:) enter the drive-name first on the filename prompt. example : B:*.DOC will select all files with the extension .DOC on the B: drive. when you enter C:\DOS\UTILS\DOCUMENT\LIST.LST the file MUST exist otherwise there will be an ERROR-Message. To be sure, you can also enter : C:*.LST and change directory to obtain that file. - The filename extensions : EXE/COM/SYS are not allowed when you enter a filename. 6.20 Screen layout and operations. ───────────────────────────── - While AIT is at work, you can press <ESC>, at the end of every page to abort the list, or press <ENTER> for the following page. - The lister uses a word-wrap routine, which will give a better readable DOC because sometimes the lines are extended to over 80 characters. The default settings of ait will be used: - When you set the option "change translated words to upper case" to 'YES', AIT will display all found words in upper-case, and all words which are not translated will be displayed in lower-case. - When you set the option "change translated words to upper case" to 'NO', AIT will display the words as they are. - When you have set the option : "Ignore first character on line when word wrapping" to a character, AIT will skip that character when a line is full and the next line will start on the tab-position where the previous line started, instead of the start of the line. (try it out with '|' on this document.) ┌────────────────┐ 7.00 │ THE TRANSLATOR │ Translate a document. └────────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────── 7.01 Function. ───────── With the Translator, you can translate a text-file to a file in your own language and add new words to the dictionary. Optionally, AIT will ask for the translation of unknown words and add them in the dictionary. The upper contains the input-lines and the lower the output-translated lines. - The upper window : - This is the input-document window. - The lower window : - The characters aa - zz will be translated in upper case and lower case formats (if possible). - All other characters will be skipped, so a word : "isn't" will be 2 words, 'isn' and 't' . All words, longer than 30 characters will be skipped. - Also all words shorter than 2 characters will be skipped. So remember to insert those words with the EDITOR of AIT. An example can not be translated, but it is the first person of the English language .I. and the first letter in the alphabet .A. (and some more). - A word which contains a POINT (.) will not be translated, except when that word also contains illegal characters, then the word will be split in more words. - When you set the option to change translated words to upper case and not translated words to lower case, the following is done: - All translated words will be UPPER CASE - All new translated words (when using Learn) are in upper case. - All lines, numbers, filenames and special characters are LOWER CASE. - All words not translated (not found) are in LOWER CASE. - When you set the option off, the following is done: - All UPPER CASE words will remain UPPER CASE. - All LOWER CASE words will remain LOWER CASE. - Mixed UPPER CASE and LOWER CASE words get the first letter UPPER CASE. - You can change the colors of all 4 types, even in monochrome mode, Monochrome uses can change Highlighted/underlined and so on. - If you use /LA, all words will be included in the current dictionary. All new words, will get another color and are added to the database as follows : - Input-word UPPER CASE. - Output-word LOWER CASE. - Code always '?' for future purposes. - The lines will be word-wrapped, so what you see in the top window is not always the same as the original DOC. - Also, if you specified an ignore character' in the configuration, that character will remain the first position that character will remain the first position, but when word wrapping is needed, that character is ignored when determining the tab to start at the next line. - The output-file will be like the screen output, but without colors. 7.30 KEYS working while translating : ──────────────────────────────── You can press <ESC> to abort at any time you want. This will stop the translation and the output-file is closed. If you have chosen for the learn option, more keys are authorized. 7.40 SPEED. ────── The speed is relative. If you have a large database (many words) it will take more time than with a small database. Just think of that. Every valid word will be searched for in the dictionary, which will take time. ┌────────────┐ 8.10 │ THE FUTURE │ What to expect in the future. └────────────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────── In one of the next releases ait can contain the following : - The "'" in a word will be skipped optional. - the "-" at the end of a line will be deleted and the next line will be added to the previous. - Perhaps usage of the english verb program I made earlier. ┌─────────────────────┐ 8.20 │ VERSION INFORMATION │ └─────────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────── 0.80α : Internal version (ALFA). 0.90ß : First Test version (BETA). 0.91ß : Test version (BETA). 0.92ß : UPDATE version (BETA). 1.10 : First official version. 1.xxß - I had a lot of problems with handling large dictionaries and tried to fix that problem with these versions. (only BETA) 2.0xß - Several beta versions of changing the internals of AIT. only supplied to beta-testers. 2.10 - This version of AIT has been completely rewritten. All users who previously used AIT, have to make export-files from their dictionaries because THE NEW VERSION OF AIT IS NOT DATABASE-COMPATIBLE WITH OLDER VERSIONS. - All registered users should read the REGUSERS.AIT document to obtain a registered version of AIT. - Sorry, EVERYTHING has changed, read the AITDOC again for all new options of AIT. - All of this, took some time, but hopefully it was worth it. 2.11 - Modifying words in any form did not work ok, this is solved now. (thanks to Rob Brockhus and Hanstheo Wolf) - At installation, you HAVE to enter a directory for the AIT-Data directory ( it was : Ait-System Dir ) CURRENT DIR is not allowed anymore. - Solved a problem with counters when over 99.999. (thanks to Hanstheo Wolf) - AIT.CFG must now (if available) be in the same Directory as AIT.EXE is located. - Added a menu-option in the Editor : Work Status. (thanks to Hanstheo Wolf) - Removed the options 'Edit a word' and 'Delete a word' because they were obsolete. You can FIND a word, and then Delete or Edit it. (found by Hanstheo Wolf) 2.12 - Enhanced the use of the mouse. The left button should be used to simulate <ENTER> and the right button should be used to simulate <ESC>. - Added language support (AcceptTable) for translation characters. For every language you can select different tables like the ß for german, and others for other languages. The less you select, the less garbage you will get in the documents, but when characters are needed, but excluded, the words will NOT be translated. This is made because of problems in French. - I rewrote some parts of the exports. Some import files did not work properly. They work ok now. - Improved the translator itself to exclude some spontane incorrect translations. - Because of the language acceptTable option the speed while translating is lower than before. - The work-status contans some support-information to help me with fixing problems with AIT. ┌──────────────────────┐ 8.30 │ COPYRIGHTS & CREDITS │ └──────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────── - The program AIT is SHAREWARE, and it is allowed to copy and distribute, for non-commercial purposes, only if in it's original form.
