ELECTRONIC MAIL
Of all the things that you can do on the Internet, E-Mail is
probably more commonly used than any other aspect of the
Internet. Today, most modernly operated businesses rely on it
for everthing from carpet cleaning announcements to phone
directories. The announcements and directories are e-mailed
around the company to save time, space, effort and paper.
Modern communications between people in general is starting to
rely more and more upon e-mail.
You can use e-mail to transfer data from one computer to
another. You can transfer writings, programs and even pictures.
Messages can be written and delivered usually withing hours and
maybe within seconds. In todays fast paced society, there is no
queston why more and more communications are relying on e-mail
instead of regular post, termed "snail mail" by most.
E-mail allows you to interact with millions of people that are
directly connected to the Internet. Other service providers
quadruple that number when considering all the people they
provide Internet E-mail to. Outernet is the name given to a
group of networks and e-mail systems that supply and receive
e-mail off the Internet. Some of the Outernetworks are:
FidoNet, UUCP networks, AppleLink, AT&T Mail, CompuServe, MCI
Mail, and hundreds of bulletin board systems (BBSs).
