  24. What's in the distribution?
  25. =======================================================================
  26. This distribution contains Voodoo3 drivers. 
  27. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D 
  28. when using DirectX 6.0
  29.  
  30. NOTE: DirectX 6.0 redistributable files should be used with these 
  31. drivers!

  37. Requirements

  40. - Windows 95/98
  41. - PC with a Pentium, Pentium II,Pentium Pro or AMD K6 Processor and  
  42.   a free AGP slot
  43. - 16MB of RAM
  44.  
  45. Fresh Installation 
  46. ------------------
  47.  
  48. NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card.
  49.  
  50. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo3 driver to a directory.
  51. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to 
  52.    Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display.
  53.  
  54.    Select 640X480 and 16 colors.  Accept the changes.
  55.  
  56. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card.
  57. 4) Install the Voodoo Banshee Card in a free AGP/PCI Slot
  58. 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post.
  59. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode
  60.  
  61.   (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device
  62.    exists, click Cancel if this message appears)
  63.  
  64. 7) Windows will detect a new VGA Compatible Display. You need to:
  65.  
  66.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  67.                                         and click OK.  Point to the Win95
  68.                                         directory in the driver
  69.                                         location then click OK again.
  70.            Windows 95 OEM SR2/98 users: Click the Next Button on the
  71.                                         Detection Dialog Box. When notified
  72.                                         that the drivers are not found click
  73.                                         "Other Locations" then enter the path
  74.                                         to the Win95 directory in the driver
  75.                                         location.

  77. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 95/98 Voodoo3 Driver Disk.  
  78.    Again, enter the path you specified in Step 1 and press OK.
  79. 9) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  80. 10) Install DirectX 6.0.

  83. Upgrade Existing Voodoo3 Drivers
  84. --------------------------------

  86. 1) Start Windows 95/98
  87. 2) Extract the files for the Voodoo3 driver to a directory.
  88. 3) Click Start, Control Panel.  Double-click on Display.
  89. 4) Click the Settings tab then click:

  91.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Display Type"
  92.            Windows 95 OEM SR2/98 users: Click "Advanced Properties"
  93.  
  94. 5) Then under "Change Display Type/Advanced Display" click "Change"
  95. 6) Click "Have Disk" and enter the path specified in Step 2 plus:

  97.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: the Win95 directory.
  98.            Windows 95 OEM SR2 users/98: the Win95 directory.

  100. 7) When asked to choose a device, select "3Dfx Voodoo3"
  101. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 95/98 Voodoo3 Driver Disk.
  102.    Enter the path you specified in Step 2 again.
  103. 9) Windows will copy the drivers.   Reboot the system when prompted.
  104. 10) Install DirectX 6.0

  107. Limitations
  108. -----------
  109.  
  110. Running 640x480 16 Color will run SUPERVGA.DRV or VGA.DRV.  No Voodoo3 
  111. features will be used.  Switch to a different resolution or color depth.
  112. Full windowed hardware acceleration with this version of the drivers is 
  113. only possible when running at 16bpp modes.

  115. Troubleshooting

  120. Problem: After installing the card, the system still detects my old 
  121. card even though it is no longer in the system.
  122. Resolution: See Step 2 of the "Fresh Installation" instructions.
