echo 1.  The shareware VEDIT Jr. is supplied as the single file VJ-SHARE.EXE.
echo     When you run VJ-SHARE, it will self-expand into about 15 files that
echo     make up the product. These 15 files take up about 260 Kbytes. The
echo     most important files are VJ.EXE (66K) - the executable editor,
echo     VJHELP.HLP (64K) - the on-line help file and MANUAL.EXE (72K) - the
echo     documentation in a compressed format. When you run MANUAL, it will
echo     self-expand into MANUAL.DOC, a 225K file.

echo 2.  The documentation consists of the text of the first four chapters of
echo     the nine chapter typeset VEDIT Jr. manual. It is about 100 pages long.
echo     When you register VEDIT Jr. for $29, you receive the complete 250+
echo     page typeset manual and the most recent VEDIT Jr. product diskette.
echo
echo 3.  The recommended installation described below requires a blank floppy
echo     disk and takes about 10 minutes. The installation will let you pick
echo     the initial colors, keyboard layout and other configuration options.
echo     Alternatively, a "quick" installation lets you just expand the files
echo     and immediately use VJ.EXE without configuring it.

echo 4.  The most foolproof method of installing the shareware VEDIT Jr. is to
echo     first create an "install" disk by expanding VJ-SHARE.EXE onto a blank,
echo     formatted floppy disk. You can then install from this floppy disk onto
echo     a hard disk or another floppy disk.

echo     Place a blank, formatted floppy disk into drive "A:". We assume that
echo     VJ-SHARE.EXE is either on your hard disk or in floppy drive "B:".
echo     Then give these commands:

echo         A:
echo         d:VJ-SHARE     (Where 'd' is the drive containing VJ-SHARE.EXE)

echo 5.  To install VEDIT Jr. on hard drive "C:", place the "install" disk in
echo     drive "A:", change to drive "A:" and give the command:
echo
echo         INSTALL A C        (To install on hard drive "C:")
echo
echo     To install VEDIT Jr. on floppy drive "B:", place the "install" disk in
echo     drive "A", the target disk in drive "B:" and give the command:
echo
echo         INSTALL A B        (To install on floppy drive "B:")

echo 6.  If you are in a hurry, would like to skip the above installation steps,
echo     and have a hard drive, follow these steps:
echo
echo     1. Create the directory "\VEDIT", copy VJ-SHARE.EXE to it, run VJ-SHARE.EXE
echo        and then MANUAL.EXE. VJ.EXE is then ready to use. Instead of adding
echo        "\VEDIT" to your "PATH" command, we recommend just copying VJ.EXE to
echo        another directory which is already in your "PATH" command. For example:

echo         MD \VEDIT
echo         CD \VEDIT
echo         COPY d:\path\VJ-SHARE.EXE
echo         VJ-SHARE
echo         MANUAL
echo         DEL VJ-SHARE.EXE
echo         DEL MANUAL.EXE

echo     2. The documentation (MANUAL.DOC) describes how to set up the environment
echo        variable "VEDPATH" if you place VEDIT Jr. into a directory other than
echo        "C:\VEDIT". This is necessary for VEDIT Jr. to find its on-line help
echo        file VJHELP.HLP.

echo 7.  Troubleshooting - Several invocation options let you improve VEDIT Jr.'s
echo     operation on various hardware. Chapter 4 in MANUAL.DOC describes these
echo     in more detail. These options can be made the default in the registered
echo     VEDIT Jr., but not in the shareware version. However, you can set the
echo     "VEDIT" environment variable with any desired default invocation options.
echo
echo     -m   Causes VEDIT Jr. to use screen attributes that are appropriate for
echo          a monochrome (Black/White, Laptop) monitor. Use this option if you
echo          cannot read the VEDIT menus or the text.
echo
echo     -k   Disables the keyboard repeat (typematic) rate speedup. Use this
echo          option if VEDIT Jr. appears slow to startup, slow to exit, or
echo          appears to "lockup" the computer on exit. Also use it if you
echo          already have your OS set up for a faster typematic rate.
echo
echo     -p   Causes VEDIT Jr. to perform a "hardware" reset of the mouse on
echo          startup. This is necessary for the Mouse Systems mouse; it is not
echo          needed for the Microsoft or Logitech mouse and causes a 1-2 second
echo          startup delay.
