WORDPERFECT PRESENTATIONS FOR WINDOWS FIRST TO SUPPORT
NEW ROLAND AUDIO PRODUCER CARD
Joint Development Brings Award-Winning Sound
Technology to Presentation Graphics
OREM, Utah ─ June 28, 1993 ─ WordPerfect Corporation and Roland
Corporation US today announced that WordPerfect Presentations 2.0
for Windows will be the first presentation graphics application
to support the new Roland Audio Producer (RAP-10) card. The RAP-
10 card is the first to bring together CD-quality digital audio
(WAV) and MIDI sound files in a compositional format, allowing
users to fully edit and synchronize multiple audio files for use
in presentations.
"As a leader in the high-end audio market, Roland provides
the type of outstanding products that we want our users to have
access to," said Shirley Chu, product marketing director at
WordPerfect Corporation. "Our support of the RAP-10, with its
ability to combine and edit WAV and MIDI files in a single track,
gives WordPerfect Presentations users access to the best sound
technology available. This quickly translates into more exciting,
higher quality presentations."
According to Mark Calkins, vice president of corporate and
strategic marketing at WordPerfect Corporation, the work with
Roland is part of an ongoing commitment to support and take
advantage of the best available technologies. "Aligning ourselves
with technology leaders is an area in which WordPerfect
Corporation is becoming more aggressive," said Calkins.
In addition to the ability to combine and edit WAV and MIDI
files, the RAP-10 will give WordPerfect Presentations users
greater control over audio synchronization in their
presentations. Roland's Audio Toolworks software, which ships
with the RAP-10, will allow users to synchronize audio tracks
independent of slide transitions.
"Roland is redefining the standard for 'business audio' to
meet the requirements of all business applications, not just
voice annotation," said Tom White, Computer Music Products
Manager at Roland Corporation US. "We are especially pleased to
have the endorsement of WordPerfect Corporation because of their
recognized leadership in business software on DOS, Windows and
Macintosh platforms."
Standard features on the RAP-10 include digital signal
processing for reverb and chorus, a 16-part multitimbral sample-
based synthesizer that is compatible with General MIDI, two
tracks of digital hard-disk recording in mono or one track in
stereo, scrub editing, pitch shift, filtering and panning. With a
Wave Composer capable of merging up to 16 different audio files
over time for automated dubbing and an integrated Sound Canvas
synthesizer that allows fully orchestrated performances, the RAP-
10 provides award-winning technology far superior to typical PC
sound cards.
Support for the RAP-10 card adds to the list of features and
support that are positioning WordPerfect Presentations for
Windows as the industry's most comprehensive presentation
graphics package. Included in the product are advanced
presentation, painting, drawing, charting and text handling
tools, as well as support for Object Linking and Embedding (OLE),
the TWAIN image acquisition standard and direct CD ROM Sound.
As part of a co-marketing agreement, a coupon from Roland
for $200 off the suggested list price of the RAP-10 will be
included in the shipping package of WordPerfect Presentations for
Windows. Both WordPerfect Presentations for Windows and the RAP-
10 card are due to ship in July. WordPerfect Presentations for
Windows will retail for $495, while the suggested list price for
the RAP-10 is $599.
